Living Room / mozilla asking for donation in new tab page
« Last post by anandcoral on December 28, 2017, 02:14 AM »
I noticed that FireFox is showing a band for donation at lower part of new tab page.

What is interesting is that the height of the band increases every day/week. Has anyone noticed it ?
It looks same like MS Edge popping a window, saying Edge is faster than .., every time I start FireFox.
Forcing user to notice.

Anand

All these alternatives were born due to frustration and requirement. But require sustained time and energy to keep development as the environment and requirements grow.

Running only on donations does not help much and keeping the enthusiasts developers together becomes problem as day passes by.
Mozilla is now asking for donations to continue. Linux is faltering.

So most turn out to be hobby projects not lasting more than few years.

Once we get closer to the turn of the year, I'll add this to the 2018 NANY page.
Excellent
I suggest to add option 'Always on top' to have additional benefit for a window.

Anand

I use Win+<number> to set focus of the required window.
Obviously I do not run more than 9 programs at a time.

General Software Discussion / Re: save to text or print to file in chrome
« Last post by anandcoral on December 19, 2017, 04:10 AM »
Hi Target,

I use FF for many extension whose alternatives I can not find in Chrome and I can not browse without those extensions.
Anyway I searched for any text file in Chrome and when I pressed Ctrl+S to save, Chrome gave option to save as text file, see image.

2017-12-19_153459.jpg

save a web page as text (it's actually plain txt, not HTML) or print it to a (txt) file?
So, if it is a txt file, it will save without ant html markup. But you may get unix coded text instead of dos due to where its server.

Thanks IainB,

This bug is reported to me but haven't got enough time to debug it.

I may take up Stick A Note, as I am trying to make enhancements of my apps this year for NANY.

Also: As part of the new DC, I wonder if it's not time to revive our old idea of having some regular columnists who write weekly or twice weekly blogs on some area of the software/technology scene.  Anyone feel like they might be interested in such a thing?
This is a very good idea. I have noted that some members are now posting very long messages and they can write them as blogs in DC. Also members who have retired (lucky guys) from day to day coding can put some tips and memories for us to have a smile in this day to day hectic schedules. My two cents.

How to get in ?

Our forum's base color is blue.
I suggest to change brown to deep blue or something like it to match with our forums color theme.
The fonts look OK now.

I agree with Ath. The quoted text is more highlighted now than the actual message text.
I think quoted text should be subtle than the message text.

Hi dantheman, happy to hear your problem is solved. I was thinking querying a base table with rules for different sheets, will solve your case but it will be of different approach. Any way let us know your solution.
