General Review Discussion / Re: Desktop streamming review ?

you know i've never even considered JUST using this to broadcast desktop without allowing control but it's a very nice idea.

Good points nudone, i think this is a case where there are really 2 totally difference concepts that just happen to have the same word assigned to them:

Boredom(1) - when you can't think of anything to do and want someone to suggest a good idea for you.
Boredom(2) - when you are forced to do some work/job which your brain fights against because it's not being stimulated and nourished.

i do see your point, at least for advanced users who know how to do everything..
i will try to add a non-automatic save feature to the main sc window next time.

paulo, we have been trying to organize a review of remote control apps (i guess the apps you are talking about is a kind of subcategory of this with a slightly different focus).  there are several very good contenders and it will make for a great review.  we are still looking for someone to do the review though..

wow beautifull pictures.

and fantastic minireview! (only missing the nice table template created by Josh)

ps. if you feel like adding that you can simply modify your post, go to the very top, and then select Minireview Template from the dropdown list of Preset text - it will add a blank table template to fill in.
(might want to try it in personal area first to get a feel for it).

Great job allen, looking forward to trying this, if only for the nice pictures.

you can zoom in the preview window with mouse wheel and left+right click, as long as you turn off the auto fit checkbox.

there are advantages to the mini window:
1) its faster to display because its simpler and doesnt user thumbnail explorer browser.
2) nice and small (if you resize it small) so it dont disturb your other work.
3) you can just hit quick keys for keep, discard, print.
4) doesnt autosave.. i might still add this to main sc.

have the preview respond to ESC for discard and ENTER for keep
I'll be adding Esc to cancel to the next version; Enter will rechoose the last selected action.

damn i thought abterix was going to love this feature  :'(

let me make clear this is a totally optional dialog.  in the OnCapture options tab (and now also from manu) you can tell it what to do when a new screenshot is taken (restore main window, dont restore main window, and now this quick popup dialog).

so if you like taking long series of pics without using this, nothing will have changed for you.

this is an additional option for those people who like to take a pic, then decide whether to keep it or not.  it's as simple as that.

when you use this dialog, it comes up before the file is ever saved to disk, so it comes up much faster, and discarding an image results in no wasted disk activity or clowdown.

i probably need to add something to that dialog that lets you choose not to diplay it any more since i'm afraid new users will conclude that the dialog is mandatory.

sorry i didn't see the first post earlier - as regards flipbook printer crash - it may be that there are some format of avi files that flipbook printer can't read properly - either because a codec is missing or because the video player used in flipbook printer is choking on them.

the fastest way to check if that's the problem is to try loading the sample movie that installs with the program. if that loads ok then the problem is with the codec of the video file.

the easiest solution to that is to convert the avi file to a more standard format using one of the standard free video converters floating around (http://www.virtualdub.org/) maybe.

perhaps the first person who figures that out can post a little walkthrough.

as for license key, you can get it same place as license keys for all our main programs:

The solution might be to have the preview respond to ESC for discard

great idea.

Developer's Corner / Phperl: All In One Php/MySql Easy Local Webserver
« Last post by mouser on September 10, 2006, 09:45 AM »
We've posted a few of these before, self-contained web servers complete with php, mysql, etc - makes testing and running stuff locally a lot easier than trying to figure it all out one component at a time..

Phperl sets up a Webserver (Apache) complete with PHP, Perl, MySQL, Mail & FTP servers. All of which can be controlled remotely through a Control Panel. In addition it has the ability to run multiple sites and now supports Virtual hosts too!

Screenshot Captor / Re: Decrease screen capture size
« Last post by mouser on September 10, 2006, 08:13 AM »
10mb png is not right.

i believe you have probably set the compression level to FAR LEFT minimum in general settings tab.

this bypasses normal lossless png compression - i need to fix this.

go to general settings tab of preferences and set compression level at 1 away from minimum, that should result in nice small files, and not result in any loss in quality.

Note1: you select to display the popup dialog either from the tray menu near top, or options dialog on the On Capture tab.

Note2: you can of course just hit the LETTER corresponding to your choice rather than using the mouse to click buttons.

Note3: you can resize the dialog; it should remember it's size between sessions.

Ok I put up a brand new BETA 2.20.00.

I expect to add some more stuff soon but I was dying to get this new version up because it includes a really great new feature (in my opinion), inspired by requests on this forum.  You can now choose to display a quick post-capture popup dialog after a capture.  This resizable dialog will let you quickly preview screenshots and decide whether to save, discard, print, perform clipboard operations, and more without ever opening up the main Screenshot Captor Window.

scpopup.png

Extremely convenient if you want to discard most screenshots you take, or just use it to print, copy to clipboard, etc.

Hope you all like it.  Suggestions please!

Post New Requests Here / Re: Text editor with good spell checker
« Last post by mouser on September 10, 2006, 07:40 AM »
We wrote a big review of text editors a while ago, but the program we recommended (Ultra Edit) doesn't have INLINE spellchecking.

Allen swears by EditPad Pro which does have inline spelling - might be worth the price of the program alone:

im thinking these may be windows explorer thumbnail caches, created automatically by windows when viewing the thumbnail browser, to speed up display; there are probably settings for it in windows somewhere, and it will probably clean up itself over time.

« Last post by mouser on September 10, 2006, 04:44 AM »
I think this is a great idea and am putting it at top of my todo list.  If user chooses option to show Capture Menu after a capture it would show menu with:
1) Open Screenshot Captor with new Image
2) Discard Image
3) Print Image
4) Copy Image to clipboard
5) Copy Path to image to clipboard

get ready for these features to be in new version to be uploaded today - if you ask me it's the best new idea to be added to screenshot captor in a long time
