this is just one of those cool nerdy posters for those of you who like this kind of thing, and for those of you like me who feel like DNS is completely perplexing.

I've never found the perfect labeling / cover printing software.. Does anyone have recommendations?

I'm interested in things like:
Printing out a song list on a cd tray.
Printing out mailing addresses from an (avery) sheet of mailing addresses.

I'm interested in ease of use as much as power.
And having a program that knows about lots of existing label layouts so i don't have to configure labels manually is important.

Any suggestions?

Alice looks extremely impressive.

im not defending anyone specifically, but authors are in a kind of no win situation regarding getting the word out, unless they have tons of money to spend on advertising.

most forums they might post on, if they admit that they are the author, most forums will kill the post and say "SPAMMER!!!"
so there is a strong incentive not to admit you are affiliated with the company.

that's why we made this section so that authors and companies wouldnt have to do that.

you can email me at [email protected] for more help,
but a common problem is people copying and pasting the wrong thing.
you want to copy from the *r1 all the way down to the end of that block.

it's not hard but it's one of those things that you really need a tutorial to help with, because things have to be named very precisely.  hopefully you can find a tutorial on the web and tell us where you found it, or someone else can.  if you give up trying to find one perhaps i can help. i have a very old c++ builder book (http://www.amazon.co...oblem/dp/157169109X/) which is quite out of date but still incredibly useful for such help.

I've been thinking a little that maybe one of our problems in trying to "fight procrastination" or "be more efficient with our time", is that we often classify things as "wasting time" that are really sources of real enjoyment for us, though we don't consider them to be; and that maybe admitting how much we actually enjoy doing them might help us to manage our time better.

For example, many of us surf the internet a lot and search for new software, etc. And we sometimes view this as a huge time waster.  But if we admit that we obviously get real pleasure out of this, maybe it would help us to figure out how to fit it into our schedules and time management.

Maybe it just means pro-actively allocating yourself time to surf and treating it like a daily item that you need to make time for.

great post arjendk.

i find this intriguing:
Decide for how long you would like to work as the first "burst" (say, 20 mins.) and set the time on your timer.
Feel how that feels. :-) If you get this really ugly feeling in your stomach or if it feels like someone is grabbing you by the throat, go back to the previous step and choose a shorter period. Repeat until you say "I can do that!", then...

to me this seems clever because (as forster points out) often the hard part is just STARTING.  once you get started its not as hard as it might feel.  so this is sort of a trick to make it possibile for you to kickstart the thing, even if you end up telling yourself, ok im just going to work on this for 2 minutes.

as for internet addiction and procrastination - it's very real and i suspect many of us hear suffer from it.  make sure you read this:

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: Please Read This Before Posting Here
« Last post by mouser on September 23, 2006, 07:56 AM »
We want people to express their opinions about software.
We understand that authors have opinions too - and personally i think the general rule most forums have that prevent people from talking about their own software is silly.

BUT we take VERY seriously the obligation of disclosure - you absolutely must disclose when you have a relationship with a company or product when you post about it.

(if you post in this section it will be assumed you have a relationship with the company so it's not necesary to reiterate that when posting here).

I just want to reitterate something:

Unlike most forums, we actually companies and authors to post info/announcements about their software on our forum.

However, we do have a few requirements for such posts:

  • Such posts need to be made in this section of the forum: https://www.donation...ndex.php?board=172.0
  • If you post there, it will be assumed that you have a relationship with the company you are posting about.  If you ever make a post in another section praising some company or software and you have some relationship with the company (especially financial) then you MUST make this relationship clear.  (If you are posting a complaint about some software and have a relationship with a competitor you also need to make this clear).

I also use his No S diet (No S Diet: No snacks, sweets, seconds, except on days that start with S. http://www.nosdiet.com/) and it's MUCH easier for me than any other diet plan I've tried.

hahahhah! love it  ;D

The everyday systems thing is very cool - going to blog about that now.

btw:
i wonder if these don't suggest something else about having a system, which is the effect of pride and fun that comes with *creatiing* a system of your own.  i think for many of us, sticking to a diet or time management system might be easier if we recognize that we take some pride in creating things, and that by actively embracing the idea that "i'm going to create a system of my own" might have value just in the fact that we have created it for oursleves.  ie. make up your own interesting rules and the fact that you have invented them might be that special ingredient that makes it possible to stick with it.

ps.
brownstudy i enjoyed your blog.

Although i have been known to occasionally forget to update the about box, in this case the new version does indeed say 2.06.01, and so does the installer.

so if your version says 2.05 then you are not using the latest beta version.

make sure you
1. download the BETA link (the webpage has both 2.05 and 2.06 available for download, make sure you grab the latest)
2. exit process tamer from the tray before installing the new version over the old.

direct download of beta: https://www.donation...eta/ProcessTamer.exe
