singx7:
I attached the grid you asked to this post. It's exactly like 3-part grid but reversed.
You can just put it in your /grids folder and load it through the templates menu on the tray icon.
I didn't understand the second part of your request, though.. Would you like to have another grid like that "grid2" you posted?

[edit]There was an error in the grid. Now fixed[/edit]

Unfortunatelly, i think that's be yet another problem: finding a site with such images.

You mean like an animated background?
If if was made out of several images, that'd already exist. There are several programs that allow you to change your background in intervals of time.
But i think you mean having a large horizontal image and have that program scrolling throough it, right?

I know no app that would allow me to change the image position in the background of the screen by command line, but if anybody knows one, maybe i could automate it!

I'm not sure if it could solve it, but why don't you just hide the icon?
(i don't think i fully understand your problem)

But it doesn't look like it's going to be very comfortable to use :-s
My feelings exactly. Also, notice that there already exist some devices just like this one (although i'm not sure if they have the "force feedback" feature).
I don't think it could be used for gaming and work, but sure does look like useful for making sculptures or 3d models.
Still, keeping your arm in that position for few hours would surelly generate some pain.

I would like to be able to make an alias/shortcut to launch multiple programs. It would be very handy.
Well.. You already can.
Here's an example of how to do it:
Screenshot-07_01_14,13_06_28.png
The only thing you can't do is launch them all at the same time. But you can call up the alias (in the case of the example, type "startup"), and then press alt+1,alt+2,alt+3, etc... Which will launch those without closing farr. (at least, i think "alt" is the default key for that).

i must say i thought you meant TIE fighter but i cannot remember what TIE stands for.
Right! I was referring to the TIE fighter :)
The meaning of TIE is too hard, that's why i said you'd only have to guess where it was used. Here's some description:

Spoiler
from: http://www.starwars....starship/tiefighter/

Bursting from Imperial hangar bays in gnat-like clouds are the standard starfighters of the Imperial arsenal -- the Twin Ion Engine craft known as the TIE starfighter.

The single-seater short-range vessel lacks a hyperdrive, and as such requires deployment from launch bases and capital ships. It features two fire-linked laser cannons chin-mounted on the ball-shaped cockpit.

TIE fighters were typically employed en masse to make up for their shortcomings. Speedy and maneuverable, these fighters are nonetheless fragile. Though hard to hit, even a glancing blow can destroy a TIE.

Though TIEs presented a formidable challenge to pirates and civilian craft, the skilled pilots of the Rebel Alliance made short work of them in combat. The Alliance workhorse, the T-65 X-wing starfighter, continually bested the TIE in numerous engagements. As the Galactic Civil War raged on, the standard TIE arsenal was supplemented with more advanced and specialized craft, such as the fearsome TIE interceptor and the dedicated TIE bomber.

BTW... For the lovers of star wars, the StarWars Databank is a complete must. It contains ALL the information you could ever want about star wars.

PS: oh, and nudone: what's the next question? ;)

I imagined it would be too vague. (but a true fan of this hexology *hint* *hint* should know  ;) )
I can also tell you that it's theme is futuristic even though it is said to have happened "a long, long time ago".

This is an incredible picture. I wonder how they did it. I don't think any camera could capture such detail, but making it in parts would reveal some issues with shadows, right? (since they wouldn't reflect one exact moment)

Nevertheless, i'm not sure if this is legal. The reason why satelites can't take pictures with too much detail is because it could be interpreted as invasion of privacy, afaik.
Imagine if there was someone sunbathing nude on the top of a high building. (yes, if that person was doing that, they probably WANTED to be seen, but you know what i mean)

Living Room / Re: can a file or folder structure make a pc crash at random?
« Last post by jgpaiva on January 13, 2007, 05:43 PM »
I've had a similar problem, only that the computer wouldn't reboot. But explorer would crash when i opened some folders. I never got to understand exactly what it was, but i suspect it was codec-related, since it happened mostly in folders with movie files. I don't exactly remember how it disappeared but i think it was with a codec update.

Ok, what's the next question?
Sure!
What does "TIE" mean?

(no, it being that thing that business men strap around the neck would be to easy :P)

PS: you don't really have to guess what the abbreviature means, only guess where it's from and where is that used ;)

I'm not quite in agreement with this blog post.
I currently own a zen micro, and it's quite good! It doesn't suffer from most of the problems mentioned here too :D
First: it no longer needs the stupid creative software (which is absolutelly worthless. Takes about 2 secs to change the name of a file. and i mean FROM THE MOMENT YOU PRESS ENTER to aply it until it really is applied). This is fantastic because it means i can use explorer or winamp, way handier!
It also can play any files i put into it, no drm here.

The only problems i find are the batery issue mentioned and the fact that it doesn't read id3 v2 tags, which means i need to use very small names.
Other than that, it's 4gb disk and good sound is perfectly enough for my musical needs :)

PS: i'd never buy an ipod. that "your battery dies and so does your ipod" issue is REALLY lame

toddm: I see what you mean. GridMove really doesn't behave very well on resolution changes. Maybe i should have it monitor if the resolution has changed, in order to avoid that kind of problems.
For now, the best solution for you is, when you use remote desktop, to press Win+g followed by 'r'. That'll reload GridMove and it'll re-read the size of the monitor.

I think App or Carol mentioned those gadgets a while ago... Anyway, first google result for "matrox vga split":
Hum.. interesting idea they had. I thought it wasn't possible, that's why i asked ;)
At 169$ it might be a bit too pricey, but still interesting if i one day decide that 2880x~900pixels aren't enough ;)
Thanks f0dder :)

So, here's the way i decided to keep it.
As you can see, the keyboard is a bit more away from me and with a better alignment. i decided to keep the big screen in my front, and brought back the picture that was on top of the other screen. as it can't be on top of the screen now, it's on the desk ;)
Also notice the 2 white dots (lame cell phone camera!) are my 2 DC mugs :D

Imagem(58).jpg

PS: what f0dder mentioned got me wondering... There isn't any way to transform one VGA out into 2, is there? (i don't mean like a VGA splitter which would give the both images on the 2 sides, i mean as usb hubs, which give you an extra usb port)

I'm so honest, that once i saw money on the floor and gave it to the guy who was walking in my front because i thought it dropped from his pocket! He looked at me, very surprised and only then did i realize that it actually wasn't his. I gave it to him anyways... (yep, i'm even enbaraced for being so dumb)

I'm really scared about this problem with having to select the "Turn off advanced text services for this program". But there's no mention at the forum of autohotkeys about that. I hope it gets fixed, tough.

toddm: i'm sorry, i'm not sure about what you mean. Do you have GridMove on both computers? or having it on the host computer is enough? I'm not sure how it could detect the resolution you have when you're remote desktoping

Guess what?
GridMove was updated.
It was essentially a bug fix over the version posted here:
  • Fixed bug where passing with the mouse over the activation area with the mouse button pressed would trigger GridMove.
  • Fixed bug that would make templates menu load with incorrect information.
  • Fixed bug that was making GridMove take years to come up when it was a sleep for some time.
  • Removed the "browse..." option. Please just put the .grid file in the \grids folder.
  • Added a new grid ( this one)
So... Go download it! http://jgpaiva.dcmem...rs.com/gridmove.html

Looks nice - I'd still prefer two smaller screens, though.
Well... There are 2 reasons i chose this one:
as i have a laptop, i can't have more than one external monitor and
i prefer having an horizontally large screen to be able to see movies :) (of course it is a bit worse for work, though. i guess one of those that can rotate would be the best solution)

By the way, you should position your keeberd (hm, that was supposed to be "keyboard" :-s) further towards the wall, so you can rest your arms on the table...
maybe you should get yourself a new keeberd, that one doesn't look too good :P
You're right, the keyboard can't be that close to the edge, but that was a photo of the first day i had the screen. I'm now thinking about swithing places between the screen and the laptop, as the screen might be a bit too close to my eyes, right now.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: An "Alt+Tab"-type clipboard utility

Well...It sounds like you need a clipboard manager (make a search here in the forum, there are several of them).
One example is mouser's Clipboard Help and Spell.
This kind of applications are quite complete, but usually they use another different key to cycle through the clips. (on chs, you can use ctrl-alt-q which will show you the latest clipboard contents).

A more similar solution for your problem is skrommel's ClipStep, which does almost exactly what you asked for, except that it only shows the currently selected clip and not all of them at the same time. Give it a try, if you'd like it to have other features, you can always post and ask skrommel if he can add it! ;)

Here's a small script i made for this:
.ahk version
.exe version
It's called CheckForFile and works with command line parameters:

CheckForFile.exe [FileToFind] [RunIfFound] [RunIfNotFound]
[FileToFind] is the file you want to check for existence,
[RunIfFound] is the comand you'd like it to run in case it found the file (can be a file, an url, etc)
[RunIfNotFound] is the command you'd like it to run in case it didn't find the file.
