When looking at this thread: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=12851.0   one gets a very nice and extremely helpful tool for (very fast and extensive) searching and archiving email from multiple sources (POP, IMAP etc.).

Life becomes a lot simpler with a software tool like this. Gmail cannot hold a candle against the speed and convenience from this piece of software (if you would ask me ofcourse  ).

Tried a demo from them once, about 1 year ago. My overall impression for this piece of software was good, but there was one major letdown, Samba support.

Whatever I did, it was not possible to write a backup to a Centos 4.3 powered PC, which was setup as a file-server. The strange thing was that practically all different (freeware) file-managers did not have any problem writing to the same backup folder. A lot of different (freeware like Karen's Replicator, DSynchronize, Cobian Backup, AllwaysSync, RapidBackup, Unison, BoxBackup, Comodo Backup, BackupTime and Yadis) backup solutions were tried, but only SyncBack SE was able to store a backup. And was it not for it's terrible interface, I would be using it.

If possible, can somebody here shed some light if Samba support has improved with the latest version of Backup4All or knows about another freeware solution?

I always liked FoxMail (http://www.softpedia...lients/Foxmail.shtml) better than all the other clients...but company rules here say that only thunderbird is allowed.

And as already discussed in another thread on DC....I am in the camp of "will not trust anything personal to any online storage method without a local copy!" so my gmail gets POPped as well".

This is a free SVN server that is really easy to set up (did it myself on Windows XP + SP2  )
Works ideal with TortoiseSVN (http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org)

As far as I remember, both tools are free to use.

Unfortunately I don't know nothing about Linux SVN client software, but doing a little Google-ing will turn up many results I assume.

Well, I use Outlook and Thunderbird, both for personal and business...so you can imagine the mess and huge amount of mail (even dating from 10 years back!).

Since I came to know about 'MailStore' the mess became untangled actually. It gives you a decent way to backup your messages (burning them on CD, burning software is included), gives you a lot more search options and is faster at delivering results than Outlook or Thunderbird themselves. It can even convert all your mail from one format to another.

(X)HTML-kit seems to fit your bill as well. Besides shortcuts, snippets etc you can write even your own modules for it. And a lot of people already did!
