btw SC can be told to always merge background transparency if you never need to preserve it.
preserving it can be useful if you ever want to change background color, etc. or use it in some case where you really need real transparency.

it's really not a bad idea, sounds like something for an autohotkey coding snack, we should move it to the pending requests section of coding snacks.

that's just my new dc patented advertising gimick   :D
'll fix it next version.

ps.
when you create transparent images for posting on the web, internet explorer doesnt support transparency so they look wrong.  you could either save as gif with real transparency, or choose from Screenshot Captor Menu: Objects -> "Merge Background Transparency"

ps i need to add new frame effects to Screenshot Captor.

Even though no one has posted a reply to this post yet, i've received some compliments about it over email
Really nice how you tied in Forster and Allen stuff.

This is a bit of a reach but since the FlyLady assignment was to find some routine activity and practice it for 28 days, i wonder if some i-always-wanted-to-write-a-novel types might use this as inspiration to take part in National Novel Writing Month, which is Novemeber (see https://www.donation...index.php?topic=4604).  I'm going to use it as an assignment to work on my thesis a little bit each day this month!

Don't give up the fight to improve yourself, if you've fallen off the GOE wagon, just pick yourself up, make a post, and get started again

Living Room / New Ms Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 - Looks Interesting..
« Last post by mouser on October 31, 2006, 05:03 PM »
Long thoughtfull review..

Overall, I think the Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 is a great addition to any office user's desktop. The comfort provided is extraordinary so long as posture is maintained, and the Instant Viewer and Magnifier provided within IntelliPoint help improve productivity. The laser engine and smooth (but close-range) wireless performance make for a smooth mousing experience. Your wrists will love you for it. But be warned, slouchers and gamers will feel the pain from using this mouse, both ergonomically and through the non-ratcheting scroll wheel.

seems to be remembering them for me - here's a thing to test.  some of my programs i make an error and the settings dont get saved if you reboot the computer before exiting the program.

try changing the settings, then exit dr windows completely, then restart it.  see if new settings are in effect.

we've talked about those cute usb adapters before, but remember you can get a usb2 enclosure for about the same price which would be more secure for daily use (that usb adapter gizmo might be good for quick testing stuff though).

i don't think it "means" anything, but rather would be used if you referred to the word coffee, just for emphasis.

General Software Discussion / Newsletters of the Web: Clif Notes Newsletter
« Last post by mouser on October 30, 2006, 06:47 PM »
I think we should do a series of posts on email newsletters we like (including langa, gizmos, etc.).

I'll start off with one created by someone who hangs out a lot on DC, Cliff's "Clif Notes Newsletter".

Cliff is also the man behind the very nice FreewareWiki site, and often finds freeware reviews here on DC that he includes (see http://clifnotes.mybesthost.com/reviews/ for more reviews).

Please join in and help expand this idea of posting about newsletters - if you have another newsletter you particularly like, start a new thread and title it "Newsletters of the Web: NAME OF THE NEWSLETTER". and make sure you include a screenshot in the post.

This is old, but i just read it and it's a great read.

From Kevin Mitnick's Book The Art Of Intrusion. Ch 1 - Hacking The Casinos For A Million Bucks

There comes a magical gambler’s moment when simple thrills magnify to become 3-D fantasies — a moment when greed chews up ethics and the casino system is just another mountain waiting to be conquered. In that single moment the idea of a foolproof way to beat the tables or the machines not only kicks in but kicks one’s breath away.

Alex Mayfield and three of his friends did more than daydream. Like many other hacks, this one started as an intellectual exercise just to see if it looked possible. In the end, the four actually beat the system, taking the casinos for “about a million dollars,” Alex says.

the one thing i should say in google's defense is that i guess you could make the case that they dont want people to be making "donations" and then assuming they are tax deductible.

the thing that upsets me about google checkout though which makes it really unfriendly to sites like ours is that you cant let the user choose how much to give, as you can with amazon and paypal.

for me, paypal is still the clear best choice.

i could count taps but you wouldnt be able to trigger on both 2 and 3, so it would only be useful if you wanted to catch tripple taps and never double taps, which seems a bit much.

Got an email from Google Compliance Officer telling me to remove all mention of google checkout button on our donation page because their terms of service forbid accepting donations unless you are a registered charitable organization.  whatever, good riddance, never liked it anyway :)
