Half way through month number two.
A terrific achievement and a great start on meeting your objective of one a day until Christmas!

.holy crap.  Not even a full day of development yet
one of the most magical things about being a member of this site is watching things like this.. someone posts an idea, someone writes it, and then we all get to read about it...
... and before you know it, there's a whole series of screencasts  ;D

It's worth giving it try just for the entertainment value!

Mine or yours?  ;D
;D ;D ;D

We won't know until you try.
I couldn't write decent code before finding AHK.
Since then I've written a program to rule the world.
What's more, it runs with just two key strokes!
Unfortunately, by some oversight, the first one disables the keyboard.
YMMV

Grab AutoHotkey from here, install it to start with Windows, then create an autohotkey.ahk script that contains the following:

I can't write a script! But if I was forced to learn how, do you think ahk would be a suitable (easy) place to start?
Apart from a great support forum it has a terrific help file, stuffed with useful examples. It's worth giving it try just for the entertainment value!

v1.0.4 - 2009-09-14
A fair effort, skwire.
Worked reasonably well for me but you seem to have overlooked one essential.
Where is the button to press that will command someone to go and get the shopping?
Oh, and could that track my commands in order to predict, for example, when I next want quail's eggs.
I know that Mouser is very keen on this kind of smart software.

Airedales are so unique and beautiful.  How is the temperament and personality?
Like most breeds you can find good and bad. We met both parents of these two and they are stunningly nice animals. All terriers are feisty, so we'll have our hands full with these pups for a while. As a breed they're amiable, smart, loyal, tough, and mischief on four paws waiting to happen.

How's the other dog taking it...? Do they get jealous, like cats?
-SKesselman
They can get very jealous. Her nose is out of joint somewhat but a bit of common sense handling will soon get us past that. The puppies have a serious case of heroine worship; they really perk up when she's around.

The story may be true, but who wants to carry a pigeon?

Somebody p-mailing the recipe of Pigeon Pie to a pie maker?
Unless it was Simon I'll take that one with a pinch of salt.

Yes, I ageee.  I'll take that out,  it was only there in the first place to let me know, wasnt suposed to be permenant!
Would it be worthwhile to create some sort of (optional?) log file, so that if something isn't found there's a record of that fact?

Thats done now:
09/SEP/2009 : Added commandline switches
/d <default_directory_name>
/f <wordlist_file>
/r Run the search as soon as app loads (same as clicking the 'Go' button)
/q close app after running

That's very obliging of you and it works nicely.
Thanks again!

I'd like it even more if, instead of a single image, one could specify a number of images to download.

Ok, Thats done.

Just add a / then the number you want to download of that image... i.e.

ape /4
chimp /3
monkey
zebra /6

The files will be named 'ape.1.jpg, ape.2.jpg' etc

New file attached.

J.
Thanks a lot!
One more request.
Can you provide a way either to default to a fixed, user-supplied download location, or to remember the location used for the previous run?
And, just as a cosmetic suggestion, what do you think of having the background reset to the default when completed, rather than retain the last-downloaded image?

Here's an alternative: 12Ghosts Backup.

"HyperBackup automatically stores multiple versions of your files and applies a reasonable filter to keep versions of every stage."

Hi awopbamboo,

I just tried this.
For me the following happens:

Program correctly reads 3 items from a test file
Accepts destination folder
Searches and displays 3 images, noting on each that the file is being saved
Program ends, re-displays original 'read info' requester (now with the last found image as its background)
Regrettably, no files are saved.

Windows XP Pro SP3

[Edit -- I should have used the old three-fingered salute before writing the above!
           Nice job!                                                                                           ]

I am glad you got my postcard but I am very cross that the naughty post men screwed it up so much.
A naughty British postman told me that this happens when you use an American postal Cody!
