Living Room / Re: Is Cybersex Cheating?
« Last post by Josh on September 02, 2006, 03:17 PM »
If it takes the place of regular sex with a loved one (spouse, g/f b/f, significant other, etc), then yes. I've seen this occur and ruin many marriages where the guy gets involved not only in cybersex, but in pornography and no longer tends to the needs of his significant other.

Could you say the same thing about masturbation?

Sure you could. Although its a healthy and natural thing, if taken to extremes, it can be just as damaging to a relationship. If it takes the place of intimacy and sex in the relationship, its just as harmful.

Exactly, if the person participating in Cybersex turns to that more so than to the real thing with his partner, then yes, cybersex can be very harmful. But if its controlled and not let to get in the way of the love life with the partner, then, like pornography, it can be more of a hobby (for lack of a better word). But, like any hobby, if left to become an obsession, it can have some major drawbacks.

You know, since m0n0wall has been mentioned, have any of you tried out smoothwall? Its a similar concept (although v3.0 seems to be in infinite limbo) and based off the *nix series of OS's.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: $10 off your purchase of FlashFXP
« Last post by Josh on September 01, 2006, 09:59 AM »
Great find, but I have to agree with f0dder. I think the idea that flashfxp was based on has lost its uniqueness. Many clients offer site-site transfers, and some do it better than flashfxp does. None-the-less, again, great find. I am sure there are lots of people who will enjoy it.

I think the less toolbars enabled by default the better, so I vote for the new one.

Living Room / Re: Article: How Much System Memory Is Really Enough?
« Last post by Josh on August 31, 2006, 09:06 PM »
Thats what I got from it Carol. And I do find that while more RAM wont make a significant performance boost after say, 1GB, it will stop the constant thrashing caused by Page file reads and writes. In fact, since putting 2GB in my system (waiting for vista before I go to 4 since XP only supports 3.5GB without the x64 edition), I have disabled the page file entirely. If I ever were to use it again, I would attach a spare drive and dedicate it to that purpose (I have a few 1-5GB drives lying around). Nowadays, I think the idea of the page file will soon be eliminated as it will become unnecessary with systems getting more and more RAM. Perhaps systems bought by mom and pop will still require it as they usually come with the bare minimum (most dell pc's ship with 256MB ram) required to run the OS plus a few apps, but a majority will come with 1-2GB standard in the near future, thus eliminating that requirement for the page file.

They cant shut them down unless they infringe on copyrights in place by MS or use MS code (from the leak several years ago). Neither of the projects have code from the MS Source (with the exception of a WHILE ( INKEY$ <> "" ) WEND statement ;-)

General Software Discussion / ReactOS 0.3.0 released
« Last post by Josh on August 27, 2006, 07:47 PM »
The ReactOS®  project is dedicated to making Free Software available to everyone by providing a ground-up implementation of a Microsoft Windows® XP compatible operating system. ReactOS aims to achieve complete binary compatibility with both applications and device drivers meant for NT and XP operating systems, by using a similar architecture and providing a complete and equivalent public interface.

Although Free Software advocates agree that free software operating systems improve the state of the art by fostering competition, ReactOS has practical benefit for others, too; ReactOS is the most complete working model of a Windows® like operating system available. Consequently, working programmers will learn a great deal by studying ReactOS source code and even participating in ReactOS development.

Check it out below for the changelog

At the present time, most of the developers time has been spent finishing up 4.7 for a release within the next month. We expect, dont quote me on this thou, 2 more beta releases before we go gold with 4.7. Once 4.7 is out the door, we will see what we can do :)

Living Room / New DVD Rewinding Service
« Last post by Josh on August 22, 2006, 09:29 PM »
Your credit card will be charged only one dollar for each rewind! Pre-pay discounts available at the lowest prices on the Internet!!

Our rewind is guaranteed: it will NOT void your service agreement with Blockbuster or other major video rental outlets.
Do NOT be fooled by cheap imitations like, "99 cent / 30 second DVD rewind," their service is unreliable and known to damage DVDs.

Official Announcements / Re: COMING SOON: Site tour section w/ screencasts
« Last post by Josh on August 21, 2006, 10:36 PM »
I would like to request some user feedback on these tours. If you can, please post what you like about these tour casts, what you dont like, what you think could be improved, and what you think could be done to make them better. Also, post any areas you would like to see covered about the site. One area I am particularly interested in is the volume level for these. I have had a few reports of the volume being a bit low on them. If you could, please post how the volume sounds to you when you reply. I am trying to gather feedback to aid me in creating better casts in the future for donationcoder.com. Thanks for your help!
