really great job anderson, i have to say this is absolutely a great thing.

i can see several requests coming soon after you catch your breath..
id love to be able to tell it to only alert me when one of several people or keywords were found in a post.

maybe be nice also to be able to add several smf forums and make it a generic smf forum notifier?

Blaster, make sure you build it with the settings saying it doesnt need runtime or memory manager; there is a thread about this in bcb contest section (or else bundle in the dlls).

level 91, almost all arrows, all maxed out:
Screenshot - 1_1_2007 , 7_37_27 PM.png

feels a bit sad that it's so easy to max out everything :(
and then at level 90 or so it gets so impossibly hard..

i wonder if there are actual good "strategies"..  anyone got a better score and strategy?

ps. i do think this game works really really well as a one-switch game.

i have to say i love the mechanics and everything..
but i cant help but feel its hard to lose no matter what you do..  hard to think of strategies when everything is so powerful.

maybe some more game balance and playtesting would have helped... or  i could be wrong.. just some initial impressesions..

Welcome CPM!
As im currently in love with these tower games i'm thrilled to see this.

Would you like me to upload the file on our server to avoid the megaupload annoyances?

it seems i was probably wrong about the starting \ restricting it to c:\

to speed things up farr also does handle * stuff in dir names, i was just using them as a way of explaining what it does, dont actullay type those in your search.

in general what it does is this:
IF it thinks you are specifying an exact path, like
C:\program files\....
then it will ONLY search there.

if not, it will search all your normally specified search directories.

so the first thing it does it tries to grab the left most eact path match and start there.

so if you type
c:\Program Files\ad\acro

it finds "C:\Program Files"
but not
it finds "C:\Program Files\ad\"

so it will search everything in C:\Program Files

ill have to study your other screenshots for more comments to make..

ARHG!!@# SO CLOSE!!!!!!  ;D  made it right to the end before that last guy got me!!

the challenge level on this game is quite good..

did you actually end up implementing a level designer?
28192
Read the help file page on directory searching!

the \ is used to specify DIRECTORY patterns to look in.

there are a few special rules though:
the \ at the end means only display directory names in results.

the \ at the begining is like typing C:\ i think (if my memory serves me correctly).

so when you do \dow\dow\
it is looking for only folders matching c:\*dow*\*dow*\

farr behaves differently if you start with a real path like c:\ or \
it will only look where you tell it.

but if you do like dow\dow
then it is going to look for *\*dow*\*dow*

which can take a long time and search everywhere..

I'm afraid it's not that simple TPReal,
Here's the dreaded effect I see at startup:

Screenshot - 1_1_2007 , 3_32_20 PM.png

I've seen that effect before when trying to hide main forms into the system tray before - there is a way to solve it i just have to go into my code and remember it, if you continue to get stuck.
28196
Fantastic!
But it sure seems to be checking frequently - like every 5 to 10 seconds!  I think this should be an option and default to something less frequent maybe?
28197
One thing I would really like to see implemented on DonationCoder.com are some resources to help our regular members get some exposure for their websites and projects.

Maybe a special page where members can list their projects, or offer their computer-related services (web design, programming, art, etc.).

I am a bit reluctant to re-implement stuff that surely is done much better on other job posting sites, so we should think hard before doing anything elaborate.  It might simply be better to add stuff to just link to users profiles on another site.

Another idea: Rather than (or in addition to) putting google ad boxes on the site, we could show random boxes with info about member sites.

I think this internet of ours is becoming too much a matter of the giant businesses which are overflowing in money to buy publicity and attention, and then the rest of the population which can't get noticed.  I'd like DC to help out in it's own tiny way to bring some attention to projects created by normal people.  Anything we can do to advance that i'd be very interested in.

Delphi and C++ Builder do not like their main form to be invisible, that's why you are having the troubles, but it can be done.  I'll try to find the technique i use a little bit later if you don't find it yourself on google GROUPS (usenet), that's where i find most of these tricks out (search for Delphi not C++ Builder).

If you would like web space (ftp+www) to upload your game entries, just message me with your desired USERNAME.dcmembers.coom location;
we are happy to provide free permanent space.

I encourage you all to make a little web page home for your game, whether you win or not.  Of course you don't have to do it here, you can put it anywhere you want and just post the link.  Now that your game has been submitted to the contest you are welcome to share it with the world :)
