I've tried and been quite happy with
Remote Admin and Remotely Anywhere

Whatever you use - it's one of the real pleasures to be able to remotely connect to your home pc - definitely worth the trouble.

I keep trying to get someone on DC to do a big review of these tools, but the tasks has driven both of them insane (Josh + Ken)..

i dont know the answer to the x1 question - i wonder if there is a commandline way to launch x1 and start a search?

as for the non-standard characters and search alias..  this sounds like something i can fix.. can you give me an example of a search and why it fails and what it should be sending to the internet?

on the search page you can choose to use google; but google does not index instantly and there can be a real delay between a post on the forum and the time google indexes it.

Perhaps i should just get rid of the escape-to-minimize behavior - thinking about it now it seems a bit unintuitive and likely to cause confusion in other cases.

It sounds like it must have something to do with the auto capture thing, since that is so rarely used by people.
