After playing this to the end I have to say I was blown away.
Despite the "non-professional" graphics, it has real personality, humour, and an epic vision, and you can just feel the love that went into this :)  I laughed a lot too.  ;D

I honestly felt like I was watching the first game of someone who went on to develop for nintendo or something..

You should be really proud of this.  Really amazing.

I uploaded it here for others to download more easily:

ps. i edited the post to upload the image instead of linking to it remotely (everyone remember to upload images instead of linking to them - much better that way)

General Software Discussion / LS - File List Generator (for Windows)
« Last post by mouser on January 06, 2007, 06:16 PM »
Nice find rjbull!

LS - File List Generator (for Windows)

This tool collects the information about files and sub-folders under the specified folder or drive and generates the list in your preferred format.  You can individually specify your desired information types to include in the list. You can even customize the listing order and sorting priorities. The output format of the list can be chosen from txt, html, and csv (Excel's primitive file format).

This tool can collect the following information items: path, folder name, file name, extension, file size, save date. Then, the tool:
* Generates the list using only the items you select,
* Allows you to customize the listing order of the selected items,
* Sorts (rising/falling/no sort) multiple items while generating the list,
* Allows you to specify the file size unit from no units, bytes, KB, MB, GB,
* Allows you to specify the delimiter from space, tab, comma, slash, and no delimiter,
* Supports drag & drop operations when you specify the location of a folder,
* Includes an Abort button to stop the operation when a folder is too big or a machine is too slow.

jdmarch, what you are saying makes some sense - i'll add an option for it (in for a penny, in for a pound).
or do we think that having it always operate that way is preferable and no option to order it by score is even needed?

i think a video demo of this program in action might help demonstrate it's usefullness.  maybe josh can make one.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: pop-up genogram maker
« Last post by mouser on January 06, 2007, 03:37 PM »
can you explain more why the emphasis on "pop up" ?
do i take it that you mean that you need to be able to quickly bring it up, draw a diagram, and then paste it into another program as an image?  you dont ever need to edit it after you paste it into another program?

do you have any non-free examples of good programs that you've found that might serve as good examples to base a new program on?

i think your idea of using an existing flowchart program with some custom symbols is not a bad idea - this is surely outside the range of a little coding snack - it sounds like a fairly involved project i'm afraid.

well if there is a specific program taking so much cpu you can try:
1) going to Configuration of process tamer
2) click on the Processes tab, and find the process that is being evil.
(uncheck the hide <1% if you dont see it)
3) on the row of the process, in the Explicit Rule section, choose Force Low

kisakarina,

i will try to do some tests this weekend to try it on windows 98 and ME and report my findings - perhaps i can discover the problem.

myu_tky: It might be the same problem with Windows 98 that is causing your error.  I report in the next day or two about my experiences with Windows 98.

Just built a level of all arrows and i only made it to level 84 or 85, so it must be admitted that there is some strategy to getting a maximum score.

Screenshot - 1_6_2007 , 1_26_01 PM.png

But i still stick to my point that this game could be sooooooooo much better with a little play testing and balance.  It needs to get much harder much faster, but then admit some reall good clever strategies that can let you get really far.

the game was playable on my pc; feel free to update newer versions (that goes for all entrants), but i cant say whether they will be considered when judging the contest.  if its just to fix bugs then probably we would use the fixed versions - but we wouldnt consider any added features past the deadline.

The idea of single plant in the center is nice and simple but what if the game was more like "Garden Defender", where on each level you have a big landscape, and one or more small "gardens" in preset places.

The landscape and position of gardens would be designed in the level editor and would greatly effect how you would have to defend them.  On one level you might have one big garden to defend in the center of the screen, on another level you might have 2 small gardens on opposite ends of the landscape, with mountains between them, etc.

Different gardens might attract different kinds of varmints.

The story of the game would be:
Cody The Bird fell on hard times, so to raise some money he applied for a job as a hypergalactic garden protector.  In order to earn his wages he must be on call 24 hours a day to defend any garden in the universe when it is under threat. Because he is a bit lazy and always considered himself an armchair general, he uses part of his pay to hire mercinaries to defend the gardens and directs them via a computer screen.  Your job is to help cody defend each garden by placing defenses and directing your mercenary army to defend the gardens, so that he may swoop in at the end and dance in the garden and take credit and receive his paycheck.
