WinPatrol has been recommended many times here on DonationCoder.

Our experimental sale this year begins on my wife Cindi’s 55th birthday, December 9th, so she suggested $5 was a nice round number that might make all our friends and fans happy.  Even folks using an illegal keygen versions can afford this upgrade and have a safe version of WinPatrol PLUS for life. WinPatrol has a history of being Birthdayware so you can also wish Cindi’s a Happy Birthday by upgrading this weekend.

Instead of a $29.95 upgrade to WinPatrol PLUS this weekend upgrading will only for $5. Like our everyday pricing you can use your single license on every personal computer you own and use it for your lifetime including any new versions we release.  Our Family Pack license normally $49.95 can be had for only $25.

For our friends in Europe $5 USD converts to about €3.73 so it’s even a better deal. $25 USD converts to about €18.7 at least by today’s rate.

-just to elaborate; the Office pack is the first to install, only then will eM Client begin to install, but without asking - so one will need to opt out of eM before the first initial "Install". Hmm... did this "explanation" make sense?

Oh, yeah, I hereby revealed that I couldn't wait for the Ashampoo version...

copy-paste the following in a Notepad and and save it (All files) as a .bat file. Name it RestartExplorer.bat, if you wish!

@echo off
taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
start explorer.exe

Thats it!

Have you tried Restart Explorer (bundled with Ultimate Windows Customizer)

-no... because of the many third party programs I have of the kind:

ULTIMATE WINDOWS CUSTOMIZER

If you have used any other applications or manual hacks to Customize Windows, it is highly advised that you reverse these changes before running UWC.

This is due to the fact that upon First Run, UWC will generate Backups of the Current Files\Registry Settings to allow the user to revert back to Default. Due to the wide nature of Customizations, this is the only option to revert back to Default.

AND because of this:

By the way, I see that there is RightClick Restart Explorer in the list.

-doesn't work on my 32-bits Vista Home Premium  :(

a brief copy from the post:

Building your own XP Service Pack 4
Posted on December 1, 2011 by Susan Bradley in Top Story

Starting today, Windows XP users will have 860 more days of official Microsoft support — and on every one of those days, many of those users will continue to run the operating system that just won’t die.

Want to extend the life of your Windows XP Service Pack 3 as long as possible? You can do so by installing Microsoft hotfixes as needed.

It’s ironic that the official Windows XP End of Support Countdown Gadget runs only on Vista and Windows 7. Perhaps Microsoft will offer a paper-based advent calendar for its XP users. Regardless of Microsoft’s schedule, a significant number of people will continue to use XP well past the deadline. Their practical reasons range from line-of-business needs to the economy to “It still fills all my needs.”

According to Microsoft, XP SP3 is the end of the line — there will not be an SP4. But that doesn’t mean you can’t build your own virtual version of SP4. Just use the hotfixes Microsoft develops over the remaining years of official support.

-same procedure as last year, James: €50/$60, I assume.

MAYBE a minor discount further the first couple of weeks (the PRO upgrade price will soon go up to €70).

I am so far awaiting the Ashampoo version, because I still have a few yiggles...

Does it have to be placed on the desktop and not replace Windows' clock?
To replace, try BetaClock: www.betaclock.com/ (yes, the homepage really is this minimalistic!)

Just like app103, I have no way of testing if it works on multiple monitors,
but maybe Aram can tell.

Josh is recommending Microsoft's default:

I used to use radmin back in the days before remote desktop. While it is a nice product, I recommend Microsoft's built in remote desktop over it. I used radmin back in the days when the 2.1 release went for years without maintenance and rumors of a 3.0 beta were in "vaporware" status for at least 2 years.

Famatech Radmin has not been updated for more than a year.

R-Studio is another ...

I have not tried R-Studio, but I have their R-Drive Image. When I politely requested a new feature, I was simply told that the program had a trial period. (period!).

One good thing is, they run the same major version's number for several years.

Shadow Explorer

A little tip, because I didn't notice this myself the first time I ran the program: the default view is the oldest shadow copy. You have to click the date, and scroll, to find the newest:

A little warning:
the right to update (upgrade, they call it) is per year, not per version's number.
I have 3.3, but must pay for 3.4 (if I would, which I won't).
