ps.  The author of all of these programs also makes a very good and very popular freeware program for checking your bookmarks for dead and invalid bookmarks, called AM-Deadlink.  Definitely worth checking out

I think these are sensible ideas, and I will add them to the next release coming in early march.  I think maybe a checkbox or toggle button somewhere on the main window to make it easy to hide and show the thumbnails would be nice..

Living Room / JayIsGames.com 2007 Competition Entries Announced
« Last post by mouser on March 01, 2007, 07:04 AM »
I can't quite tell if Jay is announcing a couple of entries each day or what, but there are some entries posted that you can play, from there 2007 flash game competition, and they sure look fun!

I'm especially interested in trying Gateway 2, since I really liked the first one.

General Software Discussion / Re: Industry standards for Help About Credits?
« Last post by mouser on March 01, 2007, 06:58 AM »
There are no standards.

I think a good rule of thumb is that you should be thanking anyone (by name or project name) whos work substantially helped, assuming you didn't have to pay for it.  If you pay for it, I don't think you have a real obligation to thank them (depending on what you paid and how good a job they did :).

It doesn't always make sense to put it in about box, but certainly in the help file at the least.

Ok great!!
Now that I have this confirmed to fix the problem I can figure out why and make it a permanent fix that doesnt need the registry hack.  Thanks for the info and soon there will be a version that doesn't need this.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Can a Modify format/case Preset be set as the default
« Last post by mouser on February 27, 2007, 03:13 AM »
Great idea to have a way to select a preset modifier as default applied - I will put on my todo list for CHS.  Actually i have a nice healthy sized todo list for CHS now and i'm anxious to do a block of work on CHS and SC as soon as FARR 2 comes out on Mar 7.

Thank you for the report Shmate - I agree with you about what PT *should* do, and I will try to fix it in the next week or two!  I hope you will stay around to help test.  (ps. you can email me at [email protected]) to remind me or talk about this problem as I work on it.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: --> PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU POST <--

Wordzilla hit it right on the head.  That personal area was created for something like this.

ps. whenever you are writing anything really long, please please please make a copy somewhere as you are going.  If you use a clipboard tool like mine or another which saves to storage as soon as you copy a clip, that's at least some backup for you (just do ctrl+A then Ctrl+C and you at least have a copy in clipboard).

hi cONR.  that sounds weird.

Let me ask you, when you receive the images in the email, what exactly happens when you try to view it? What error message do you get?  It's possible that your email program won't display the image or your image viewer wont (if you have a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry old computer).

Try this, send one to me ([email protected]), and i'll tell you if it sends ok.

ProcessTamer / Re: 140k or not to be 140k?
« Last post by mouser on February 25, 2007, 12:36 AM »
The blurb on this prog said it was small.... small and efficient.. task manager says it's over 7Mb- is that just me?

hehehe - i can see why that must seem like a nasty shock.

First let me address file size:

The ProcessTamer program that runs in the background and does all the work is only 148k.
The actual download size of the package is about 2.5mb, because of the help file (1mb) and the configuration graphical user interface configuration program (1mb) which is an entirely separate program, designed that way so that it doesn't have to be loaded in memory unless you are actually configuring the tool.

Now your task memory is saying that it's using over 7mb of memory when running (mine says 5.2mb).   That's really a pretty small amount of memory, and remember it's designed for speed (so as to have minimal impact on your computer), so some design decisions (like have a large hash table) are made which trade off using a little more memory in return for faster execution.

There are a number of on-top issues with FARR that i plan to spend some time fixing in the next week or two prior to release.  Mar 7 is my deadline so mark it on your calendars!

good idea to start a new thread.

*Typing these 2 strings will show alias contents... 'sys' and 'C:\windows\sys'.
*Typing directory paths shows all aliases: Typing 'c:\' will list all aliases defined? Not sure why?
Urgh! Ok this is why people use test cases.. There are so many interacting parts that when i tweak one thing i break another. I'm going to make some test cases so you guys don't have to find all these bugs for me :)  I do appreciate it though.  I'll have a fix in the next day or two.

I will check on alias actions and fix.

ps.
Can I just say, as a programmer, how much I love and appreciate and just thrive off of these non-angry, helpful bug reports.  I honestly think it makes the entire process for me so much more rewarding.  Thank you.

you can switch it into Details mode, that might solve the problem.

I will try to make a fix for this available this coming week.

what you are saying *should* work, but it may be the placement of kill at the front that is confusing it.
if you do: "notepad +kill" does it work as expected?
if so i'll try to fix the problem with it not working on first word.
