I say you trust ole shamurai ;-) But yeah, umm, i dont know much about The bat since my trials with it have led me to nothing but frustration.

I agree, the whole options dialog should get a rework prior to 2.0 going final. I've discussed this with mouser numerous times. Perhaps we could talk him into this.

Mouser, I must say, the option with the modifiers is PERFECT. Typing in a keyword modifier should eliminate all results as it does with the new release. Great job!

Can you resend me the links mousey? Also, did you add a separate options tab for KEYWORD launchers which are separated from group aliases?

Living Room / Just cancel the @&@$(!#*! Account!
« Last post by Josh on January 07, 2007, 03:20 AM »
128206-2502p119-1b.jpg

It took me less than 5 minutes to sign up for a NetZero dial-up Internet account. But after canceling that account, I spent a week trying in vain to reverse a charge that the service levied after my cancellation request.

I had to call NetZero a total of five times, holding for several minutes and then enduring long and fruitless conversations with company agents every time I called. According to the NetZero representatives that I spoke to, I needed to talk to a supervisor to arrange a credit, but none was ever available when I called. In the end, I gave up and let NetZero keep the money.

To evaluate how difficult canceling an online service can be, I signed up for and then canceled 32 accounts, each at a different site. About a third of the services in my sample made the seemingly simple goal of canceling very hard to achieve (see the "Big Hassle" entries in "Want to Cancel That Service?").

Not all of my experiences were negative. Services such as a monthly New York Times TimesSelect online subscription and a monthly Consumer Reports Online account took only minutes to cancel and without lingering strings. But some others made me feel as though I'd joined the Sopranos' family business: Once I signed up, there was no quitting!

Living Room / Reminders made simple
« Last post by Josh on December 28, 2006, 10:49 AM »
About 3 years ago, my father introduced me to a relatively novel site called http://www.easyreminders.com. This site, for a small fee (15.99 for 3 years), gives you the ability to schedule reminders for yourself as far out as you need. There are various options available to schedule these reminders, and you can add as many people as you like to the email reminder system. See the screenshot below

I highly recommend this site. It has helped me out numerous times.

Living Room / Earwax and evolution
« Last post by Josh on December 27, 2006, 08:33 PM »
There are two types of earwax, wet and dry. Wet earwax is common in Africa and Europe, while dry earwax is characteristic of East Asian populations. South and Central Asian populations are half wet and half dry. Native Americans tend to have dry earwax. Nicholas Wade of the New York Times reported in January of last year that Japanese researchers have isolated the gene responsible for earwax differentiation. The curious thing is that earwax doesn’t seem to be terribly important to human survival:

Perhaps by typing "History XXXXXXX" right?

I would like to suggest a way for farr to access the URL's typed history that windows keeps so that it can autocomplete them based on what the user has previously visited. This would be a very handy feature.

This would be easy to detect when the user is typing a url as all farr should be required to match is the http:// or https:// portion of the address (or even www.) and then access the url cache.

Also, perhaps a way for FARR to store url's typed inside the program for quicker access (perhaps store them in an autocomplete db on the users hd which can be purged at a user given interval, or kept indefinitely).

What do you think? I feel both of these features would add greatly to FARR.

Thoughts?

Ghost was nice, but I'm done with it since symantec took over. The king is dead, long live the king etc.

Wasnt ghost always a symantec product? I know they bought out powerquest which had driveimage, but ghost has always been around as a symantec product...

Find And Run Robot / Separating groups from keywords in the options dialog
« Last post by Josh on December 20, 2006, 10:38 PM »
I would like to suggest having a new tab made in the options dialog to separate the GROUP aliases from KEYWORD aliases.

The reason behind this is simple. Group aliases are compromised of just that, groups of keywords in a common group. However, a keyword is specific to an application and designed to run a specific command.

While this can be done in the current configuration, it gets kinda messy when trying to add a new group alias via the right click menu. Also, the "Add to new keyword" dialog should be a bit more simplistic than the group alias addition dialog.

What do you think?

Yeah, but I really dont want another process :-/ Otherwise I would be using something similar.

Hopefully mouser can work this in for 2.0 final :)

Find And Run Robot / Windows Logo key shortcut keys in FARR?`
« Last post by Josh on December 20, 2006, 09:51 PM »
Is there a plan to add support for the windows logo key in farr for hotkey combos? I would love to be able to launch FARR with the WIN+Q shortcut key, which would totally replace the run dialog for me in 99% of cases.

Thoughts? It currently supports other keys (ctrl+alt+shift), just not this one.

I like the new entry field. The way it melds with the interface. So, yes, this gets my vote.
