Living Room / Re: Flow-inspired game: Bubble Tanks
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 11, 2007, 06:45 PM »
f0dder: same here!
I never got past that. I went in a line after i got that, and eventually just lost the shield and went a few states back. That's when i gave up. (also, the fact that i kept clicking the scroll bar of the browser was driving me nuts!)

Right, that huge bubble around me was the part i couldn't get past :S
I lost it and never got it back.
I gave up :(

good release, mouser.. anyway, i have another suggestion. how about incorporating an internal command or alias to quit Farr by typing something like this: @quit? this is because WinXP always hides the systray icon and i'm less inclined to use the mouse. :)
I made this script just for that. I have some situations where i need to use ctrl+space for some actions, thus, when i need it, i type exit in farr and then, to bring farr back i use windows+f.

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: Gridmove - feature request

;D ;D ;D Love our screen mockup, tinjaw!

Yeah, i met bret on the irc channel, and we talked about this, and i got to the conclusion that he's looking for something i thought GridMove could become. (just check the huge GridMove thread, and you'll find a few references to something similar to this).

I love the idea, and would definitelly like to have something like this for myself, as i usually use my own 2 monitors like that.

I have bad news, though. Truth is latelly things have been chaotic at school, and i haven't been having much (or should i say any?) time for making coding snacks. Thus, i prefer not to commit to this project, as i'm almost sure i'd let you guys down.

Thus, in 2-3months, when i'm on vacations, let's see if we can talk about this again :)

In the meanwhile, if anybody feels like they're up for this task, i'd definitelly have some DCredits in store for that person :)

General Software Discussion / Re: Don't be fooled, Vista wants new hardware

Yeah, the "completelly impartial" part, was definitelly ironical ;)
Well... I see your point about the "sluggishness threeshold", but you also have to notice that if Vista gets "slightly sluggish" in you machine, it'd look "tremendously DEAD" on my 512mb of memory and 4200rpm 80gb disk ;)

Ok, now that i've got a completelly unpartial mini-review of vista by f0dder, i'm definitelly sure i won't install Vista any soon. Specially given the fact that my laptop is 4 times less powerful than that computer!!

I can see what you mean, but unfortunatelly, i have no way to do it. I can't reproduce windows or make a preview of them, only move the window itself.
There are a bunch of expose-alikes for windows, though. I've tried Winplosion and it was pretty good! It has changed owners, though, not sure if it's still the same or better.

Hi Bret!

You mean having something like Mac's Exposé on one screen and the normal work on the other one?

IIRC, the omega drivers for ATI can flip the screen, both horizontally and vertically. I'm not completelly sure, though, as i'm not using those right now.
2712
Well... As for the problem with having the windows appear outside of the current monitor, that has happened to me a few times already, and i always fix it with gridmove, a program i made that moves windows to specified places on the screen. It works with mouse and keyboard.
2713
YAY! ;D Thank you jgpaiva processkiller is the best single file program I have downloaded, Now the annoying windows update please restart box won't keep popping up on me. (Yes I could disable it, but I am too lazy to do that, and I may want it back later, I dunno)
You're welcome!!

BTW.... How could i disable that? :D

attack of the clones (ignore the romantic interludes - this is the best star wars. you are wrong if think otherwise).
;D ;D Actually, i also conside it to be the best star wars, but for the oposite reason, the part i most like is the fact that they are falling in love :D
2715
Great fix!
It sure does make a difference!

General Software Discussion / Re: A programmers notepad w/ syntax highlighting

Vim seems to be a good one, however, it seems to have a steep learning curve.
It sure does.
If you don't intend to use vim very frequently, i wouldn't recommend you go that way, as the time it'd take you to learn how to use it would be more than you'd actually benefit from using it.
If, on the other hand, you intend to use it as your all-around editor as i do, you will definitelly love it :D

I sometimes chat with my girlfriend on msn even though we live together... but that's mostly if she's in the living-room and there's loud music playing, easier than yelling ;)
Yeah.. Same here. Good thing msn exists, it sure does spare us here at home from a lot of yelling :) The neighbours say thanks ;)

Post New Requests Here / Re: USA/Europe telephone "mask" in a text file
« Last post by jgpaiva on March 25, 2007, 05:25 PM »
Well.. This isn't really a coding snack. I think what you're looking for is a text replacement tool.
A good online option is www.rereplace.com, a site by a fellow DC member, allen.
I personally love Vim, a text editor. But that's kind of too advanced for this task.
2723
Oh, i see the problem...
GridMove creates the files on the working directory.
Actually, this might not make much sense...
I'm not sure how to change it, though

Find And Run Robot / Re: Blue Screens : FARR? just wondering...
« Last post by jgpaiva on March 25, 2007, 05:20 AM »
I already had a computer that gave me blue screens, and i was so interested in finding out what causing it that i didn't care for any of my programs anymore ;)

Well.. If you suspect of your HD, you should run the SMART check on it. IIRC, speedfan can do that check.

You also should run memcheck (any linux distro has that check included in the boot disk, i think), to make sure it isn't related to your memory.

If you have enough time, you could also reinstall windows, to check if it's related to drivers or not.
2725
tamer1: actually, all those files are supposed to be created at the directory where the .exe is...
The only explanation would be that it behaves differently on a usb stick, but i find that a bit odd.

[edit] just tested it with my usb stick, and i don't get the behaviour you mentioned.. [/edit]
