i think the way the save game could use some improvement.
it's nice how it autosaves progress.
but a new player might not realize it, and might think they have to keep restarting from begining.
and if you make the mistake of pressing 1player you erase your past save game.

maybe the game should ALWAYS resume from where they left off (ie get rid of load option on main screen and always do a load if they select 1 player). and instead of Load option put at bottom "restart from first level" or "clear save same" or just let user delete the save game if they want to restart since most will not want to.

crap, i see that it's not auto-creating the myaliases.alias file. damn that may be the problem :(
ok i better release an update asap or no one is going to be able to create aliases!

The Form Letter Machine / Re: Additional Templates
« Last post by mouser on May 30, 2007, 12:05 PM »
great questions.

first, as you guessed, the form letter machine comes with no templates other than the sample one.
it's currently made really for people who have their own special types of letters/emails that they write, rather than using present ones.

i think it would be a great idea to share useful templates.  we can do so simply by sharing the form letter data files and posting them on the forum here.

as for creating new templates, it's easy.  The Form Letter Machine calls a "template" a "Configuration Tree", so just go to File -> New Blank Configuration tree from the main menu, and create a new template and save it.  no programming required.

i enjoy it a lot.

i think the website needs a bit of work.
first, it needs a screenshot or 4 on the main page.

and i think the download links should be clear normal links, like people are used to.

Liquidmantis,
it was supposed to keep your aliases -- i think it's probably a vista issue.

as you say, the gui doesn't yet have a way to let you create a new alias file, but what you did manually should have worked.  can you check the appdata directories and make sure it didnt create folders in there? i have to check my vista version for this stuff.  when you modify your custom alias file, can you make sure its saving your changes, and see what alias file in what directory it is really modifying.

ps.
please save your backed up original alias prior to this new version! when i get the vista version working you will want to restore to that version in order to have it properly import your old aliases.

it's a windows98 issue only, a few fixes have been posted recently.. i'm sorry for not releasing an update yet with fixes incorporated -- i will try to get it released asap. until then, see workaround here: https://www.donation...63.msg62642#msg62642

this is a great idea.. i seem to remember there are shopping list type programs that include some of this functionality, so keep looking until you find a program to do what you say and let us know.  i really think this is a great idea, and if no free tool exists for this maybe someone here can make it.

Delphi and C++ Builder / Re: Getting Started With Borland C++ Builder Q& A ?
« Last post by mouser on May 29, 2007, 07:23 AM »
1-5 can be done purely visually, using the IDE.
Rather than people giving you a walkthrough with screenshots, the best advice other programmers like me can give you is to get used to using a search engine and figuring it out through experimentation.  All of the things you are asking are things that C++ Builder is *specifically* designed to make easy through point-and-click manipulation from inside the visual editor.  Get yourself a c++ builder book if you're going to use it seriously.

The last item #6 is going to require a 3rd party drop-in replacement editor component.  Adding such components is one of the fun parts about c++ builder, so your job now is to find one to use and learn how to install it into c++ builder.

But again, you don't really want to ask people's help for how to do these things..  Save your requests for help for when you get stuck *after* you've gone and done your searching and tried to figure it out for yourself :)

you know justice, this would be a great feature to add to a 3rd party exe compressor.. going to pass this on to db90h who hangs out here and is the brains behind PECompact (www.bitsum.com), which I use on some of my programs.

Site/Forum Features / ReadMe: Find out and rant about bad companies
« Last post by mouser on May 27, 2007, 07:24 PM »
I set up this section based on strong requests in the irc channel for a place on DC to rant about companies.

I'm a little hesitant to do so because there are already some very good other site for such posts.

Feel free to post here your rants about companies, but also feel free to post on one of the other great sites (like http://www.shitware.net) and just post a link to those sites here.

NOTE: This section has been expanded to include PRAISE about good companies -- we thought it was only fair to have both here.

UPDATE April 21, 2011: We have decided to merge the complaints and compliments section posts with our other forums so there is no separate forum section for such posts.

ProcessTamer / Re: Tray Balloon messages auto-extinction ?
« Last post by mouser on May 27, 2007, 01:45 PM »
you can off course just turn off balloon tips in process tamer only, which is a bit safer, since you might not want to lose all balloon messages.

I used to use this *feature* quite often when the kids & nephews were younger -- the names of the image files were usually quite graphic enough to get them busted, & they never did figure out how they got caught.

ace and mackal,
so what's the verdict? does the ahk script work well yet?
when it's ready perhaps we can convince you to make a little .ahk/precompiled-exe zip file for easy download?

Living Room / Flash Game of the Week: FlashTrek Broken Mirror
« Last post by mouser on May 26, 2007, 10:17 AM »
Ok this is not an easy game to just jump into, it's pretty deep and it will require reading some instructions and taking your time learning.  But it's a pretty damn cool star trek space game which is clearly based on copying the "EV Nova" game engine, which is a damn cool indie shareware game which is a ton of fun (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/)."
