Currently the forum is set up to only allow polls from supporting members, just to cut down on polls posted as spam.

ProcessTamer / Re: Is ProcessTamer "Portable?"
« Last post by mouser on June 20, 2007, 11:10 AM »
All of my apps (except url snooper which needs a network driver to be installed), can be run portably off USB drive, etc.

In fact, all of my installers are created in a way that they can be unzipped by any zip archiving program and the files extracted manually without ever installing them.. This was done precisely for people who don't like running installers or want to use the software portably.  All configuration file are by default stored in the directory of the program.

When you enter a license key it is also stored in the directory as a file, so you can move that around with you as well so you don't have to enter the license key again.

Note:
Anyone can easily use this program to make their software support update checking and downloading, simply by creating 2 tiny files (one local, one on remote server).  In other words, this is not limited to DC software.

ps.
yes, it can update itself

Note the installation options, i really like that -- you can either have the program download and run it for you, or do everything manually and just use the updater to tell you when there is something new to go check out.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Grab contents of an on-screen list
« Last post by mouser on June 19, 2007, 03:14 PM »
the best program i know to do this is a shareware program called Kleptomania. It's been discussed before on the forum (website: http://www.structurise.com/kleptomania/).

there may be other tools as well that do it.

This isn't directed at you Nighted, you have already contributed to the site.

But in answer to people who don't want to use paypal or credit card, see this item in our Help Section:
"I Want to Donate But I Don't Want To Use PayPal or a CreditCard!"

ooops!!!
jgpaiva is right, in large icon slide mode, there are no headers.  i shall add code to gray out headers option when it is checked.

ps.
jgpaiva hasn't anyone told you it's rude to correct the author of a program and show you know it better than he does
26535
well that's a bug, no other way to explain it.  but one i've not seen before.
there is an option to hide the column headers but it's clear from the options that you don't have that option enabled.

if you exit the program completely and the restart it, do you still have the same problem?
i'm very interested in figure out what might cause this.

General Software Discussion / Re: Mapping websites
« Last post by mouser on June 19, 2007, 11:18 AM »
Dapper isn't really a mapping program in the same sense as the original request, but it's a very interesting and polished service.  Watch the screencast to see what it does: http://www.dapper.net/dapperDemo/

Basically it will let you tell it how to extract data from a website and create new feeds from it, in various formats.  Some very slick ajax stuff going on here.  Nice find, Keynell.

Jeff,

Thank you for that post.  It means a lot to me.  You will always have a place here.

you should change the pole to ask the highest level anyone has gotten up to.
26539
i beat it, thank god levels 13-15 give you a break for some fun.
26540
level 12 is just plain cruel
26541
FARR is going public in July, and all this secret URL stuff will come to an end.
The real reason not to post it is to avoid it getting picked up on software listing sites -- i'd rather keep the userbase for v2 to people on this forum until i'm sure i'm not going to be making any new changes that could be hard to update.
26542
ps for all new players -- level 6 is where things get interesting :) !
how many levels are there in total?
26543
one of the most important keys in the game is the spacebar -- i know people shouldnt skip the tutorial, but people always have, from the days of the caveman.

so i suggest that on the first level or start screen you show some text saying "remember -- hit the spacebar to stop the ball's movement!"

ps.
bug that's been in several versions -- sometimes when you first click single player or load  button it doesn't do anything.

please don't take my post as discouragement! we appreciate the post.

i'm just trying to help all readers get into certain habits of posting to make things so smoothly and to make it easier for me to blog interesting posts, and make posts a bit more visually interesting.
26545
There are some tools to help you organize your start menu; i always meant to write one myself..

hehe, this is going to turn into a mini lesson about posting pictures, so this isnt really directed at you specifically, but to everyone.

first, dont link to external images.  on this forum you can attach an image to a post -- that's preferable since it will last forever and not eat anyone elses bandwidth but ours.

second, attach the pic to your original post not as a separate post (you can modify your post).

third, you can display the attached pic anywhere you want in your post by specifying the code

fourth, the jpg format is not well suited to screenshots.  it's good for photographs, but for screenshots, use png.  Most screenshot tools can do png (my Screenshot Captor can and does by default for example).

What I don't understand is why your app wouldn't work with a newer version of a Microsoft library. I thought all system libraries were backwards compatible(?)

agreed -- this is the real mystery.  hopefully i can find out why and a solution.

one good way to estimate is to go to your Program Files\ directory and count the number of folders.
