Properties menu item should do exactly what Shell Context Menu -> Properties does.  Seems to work for me here -- maybe there is some cases where it's not working? If anyone can figure out more clues on when it doesn't work let me know.

Search for all matches -- i'm actually removing this from the menu, but you can get the same results by adding +sall to your search string.  It only has an effect when your search results have more than the number of results you have configured to display.  So for example you might normally show only the top 9 results, but when you use +sall you could get a hundred..

@Mouser - I accidentally discovered that it seems possible to load two instances of FARR simultaneously, or at least, end up with two FARR icons in the system tray.  Should it trap that?

yep, on my todo list.

it could very well be something i inadvertantly changed in the installer.. thanks for pointing it out and i will do some more testing before public release.

taichi, try returning the full path to the target exe as your custom icon name.
26355
weird - i didn't mean to change anything that would require this :(

I agree with Grogy, this is a great idea

Find And Run Robot / Re: exclude folder as find result

by the way, when you turn off find folders by default option, you can still ask to find folders by adding +\ to your search.

you can also add really high scores for *.exe and *.lnk patterns in the pattern scoring tab if you really want to favor those kinds of files.

you can tell farr not to match folders, by unchecking this option:

also: looks like i need to upgrade the updater so that if its an update file that is a zip then it should prompt user to handle it.

Caveat:  Since the adv. config are stored in the same directory as the plugin (c:\program files), they are normally being virtualized. ServiceCtrlHelper.exe will not be able to read those preferences and therefore will just do the default (show progress bar, show msgbox upon failure, and do not show msgbox upon success).

I don't fully understand what you are saying the solution to this is..  Perhaps the options need to be stored in user profile subdir after all?

stop spamming us with this crazy request   ;D

I've been playing with the idea of a note-taking plugin for FARR with a focus on tags/keywords..
Then i wondered if Tranglos might make a keynote plugin for FARR :)

interesting, skylight is made by same people who make and sell AppRocket, and looks to be a successor.  As a commentor on lifehacker says, it wouldn't be surprising if this went payware eventually, like AppRocket.

Sending physical letters just isn't cool anymore, and it takes too much time to print, stick it in an envelope, and walk to the store to get a postage stamp. Companies seem to really be acknowledging that and building their businesses around it.

eSnailer is the latest to the market. The interface is clean, and extremely easy to understand. Start by filling out the envelope from the fields in the top left, then move on to the recipient's field in the center, and continue with a full fledged text editor. When your letter is complete, eSnailer will print, envelope, stamp and send it via regular US postal mail, all for free.

So, what's the catch? eSnailer is ad supported. They ask that as soon as you send the letter that you accept one of the free offers you are presented with, using the address you supplied as a junk mail receptacle. Nice. Is it worth it? You decide.

Official Announcements / Re: ZillaRank: An improved search for smf forum

the new active board scoring heuristic is great.
(note for testers, if you do the same exact search twice in a row you wont see the effect because of smf caching, so make sure if you test this you conduct a search for some other term in between tests).

This is just my normal plug that if you can find a commandline tool that does it, you could use Drag+Drop Robot to give you nice batch support:

the program is actually made for this -- just design your configuration tree as normal and save it, then when composing a letter, select the node you want to edit, and edit it in the top box above.  Changes in this top box are just temporary and last for the duration of the current letter only.
26369
if someone would be more interesting in supporting TC plugins as FARR plugins

now that is an interesting idea..

Well i have to diverge from the criticism here..
I just appreciate the mechanics of the stripe generator, and i always enjoy when i see a site really focus on something that others take for granted.  so i kind of like how people are debating the merits of different strip patterns :)

I'm not saying it's important what stripe you have in your logo -- i'm just saying i think it's a fun site.  Much in the same way that i think the design of apple boxes is a fun issue of aesthetics and art, while at the same time i find it's role in *marketing* a product to be distasteful.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Use locate32 with Farr

jim has been really generous with his code, and it's the first thing i'm going to study when it comes time to add optional indexing support to FARR

Well i must admit to being totally 100% completely baffled by the fact that web2.0 supposedly has this "look" with these weird stripes and fonts.  It seems insane to me.

Here's wikipedia on "web 2.0":
"Web 2.0, a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2003[1] and popularized by the first Web 2.0 conference in 2004[2] , refers to a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites, wikis and folksonomies — which facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. O'Reilly Media titled a series of conferences around the phrase, and it has since become widely adopted.

Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to Web technical specifications, but to changes in the ways software developers and end-users use the web as a platform. According to Tim O'Reilly, "Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform."

However if you didn't know any better just from browsing the web you might guess that web2.0 referred to the logo design style..

Living Room / Re: totally pathetic comparison about apple and microsoft
« Last post by mouser on July 05, 2007, 07:01 AM »
It's a very clever spoof, and very well done.
But i agree, and i want some f*cking specs and feature lists on my box -- i want to see what features they think are most important.

Again, not knocking apple products, which can be outstanding.  Just a knock against the marketing approach.

Justice,

Adding an indexing *option* to FARR is planned.  Not as part of the version 2 release though.
There is a reasonable chance that I will actually use the Locate32 codebase, since the Locate32 author comes here occasionally and is a nice person, with lots of fans here of his excellent program.  Not sure yet though.

But anyway, as tempting as it might be to try to write an indexing plugin, or a plugin that tries to emulate this by searching locate databases, it's probably not an ideal solution to do it as a plugin -- it should be part of the core functionality.

(if there are any ambitious good c++ coders who want to work with me on adding some really fast and custom indexing code to FARR let me know!)
