I would like to be the first person to suggest a plugin.

My idea for a plugin is to create something similar to DirectAccess. Allow a user to be typing in any application, and type an alias (ex: ftp) and a tooltip style popup is displayed above said text offering a hotkey combo which can be pressed to launch said alias. This could even be expanded to allow for arguments to be passed as well by pressing some key combo to focus the tooltip box and type in an argument.

What are your thoughts?

Dont know what you're talking about Carol, WDS handles outlook PST files just fine, as well as indexing exchange mail server messages.

General Software Discussion / Re: Portable development IDE/Compiler
« Last post by Josh on March 30, 2007, 12:04 PM »
To everyone, I just tested SharpDevelop and it worked beautifully on another PC. I can do C# and VB.net programming. I am going to try Dev-C++ and see if it works next. I will keep everyone posted. By the way, does anyone know how, in sharpdevelop, to get a component's (COM OBJECT) objects added to the tools toolbar (Like the FTP control from MSINET.OCX, etc)?

I am looking for a programming IDE with compiler (C++, delphi, vb, whatever) that can be installed onto and run off of a USB stick. With the portable age upon us, I am hoping someone has already developed something like this.

Anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, I have seen how to do this, but this also requires editing the colors for each language I have configured for it. Hence, why I would like a preconfigured style.

Yeah, I could, but that takes more time than I have right now. I was more hoping for some pre-configs like pspad, notepad2 and vim have

I have decided upon notepad++ which starts up very quickly and has all the necessary features I want. If only I could find a color scheme which resembles the old green text with black background like on older terminals for it. I've found a few, but none with those particulars. Any ideas?

Vim seems to be a good one, however, it seems to have a steep learning curve. Does anyone else have any suggestions while I try out vim? I like PsPad however I cannot get it to work properly from my USB drive. Notepad++ is another I will try next.

Thanks again to all for replying

Friends, Roman's, Countrymen, lend me your ears.

I am calling out tonight for your help in finding a programmers notepad utility. Said utility should be able to run off a usb stick WITHOUT installation. Said program should have syntax highlighting which is upgradable via text files with programming definitions.

Doest thy fine community haveth anything forth me?

Yes, startupCPL is a great product. I recommend it as well. www.mlin.net

It installs itself as a control panel applet, is freeware, and does what all the major competitors do in, to me, an easier interface.

Floppy, do you happen to own an HD Drive for use with AnyDVD HD? I am trying to find out how AnyDVD HD is performing for you. Mainly, what I am interested in, is the HD Ripper.

Let me throw out a big shout for netlimiter as well, as mentioned above by earthcoder. This is a great app for people who share their home pc with ANYONE that loves to download/upload and lets you limit an apps throughput so they dont saturate the bandwidth of the pipe.

Q: what's worse than softcore porn?

A: amateur hardcore porn.

call me a snob if you like.

Agreed! Thats why I hate amatuer porn for the most part. Its people trying to be the next Ron Jeremy on film and they do stuff that just isnt normal in a good majority of relationships. I hate to say it, but based on studies I've read, the normal relationship doesnt deviate much from the standard positions.

Now, let me stop before I get outside the realm of DC

I have actually experienced what ecaradec is mentioning. If you type quickly, farr sometimes cannot catch up and launches whatever is in the first result slot. That is, the results are not updated quick enough to match up with the desired search.

I just tried this, and I have to say, its not the easiest thing to use. I wouldnt recommend it.

I am unsure of the specifics, but, I think it would be a major security risk if mouser were to post the permissions to files/folders on the server. If it is just how to configure the files on your own server, there are plenty of instructions in the installation documentation for SMF.

I think mouser forgot about farr and is now working on SSC. Just my guess. This was supposed to be in public beta 2 weeks ago :(
