It would be nice to see some sample gui mock-ups of the game.

Having seen your drawing skills, which are similar to mine, I wonder if there isn't someone on the forum who might be willing to help in this department..

yes, mugs are still available to plugin writers!
i'll include a picture of my cat in addition, as a bonus prize.  :P

DcUpdater / Re: Crazy and probably not feasible idea: DCUpdate swarming.
« Last post by mouser on July 16, 2007, 12:04 PM »
it's not a terrible idea, but my understanding is that the download bandwidth on dc is really not a problem, so it would really be a matter of solving a problem that doesn't exist, while adding a lot of extra coding..  it's not a bad idea in general though, and it could be something to think about for some software if dcupdate is to become more general.

for example the remote update file on the server might simply point dcupdater to a torrent or file checksum which dcupdater could then launch in an external tool.  so dcupdate would detect a new version, alert user, and then initiate a download of the new version via an established torrent tool.

in a graphics program it's nice, but for text i agree, i prefer stepped scrolling.. i wonder if they've done usability studies on this to see which one is easier to read for text.

When i saw this program many years ago it restored my faith in the humour and sublime nature of the human mind.  But it also made me very depressed that someone else had written this before I had a chance to.. Pure brilliance.

UrlSnooper / Re: No Network Adapter After OS Upgrade
« Last post by mouser on July 16, 2007, 08:39 AM »
if it doesn't auto detect, then go into advanced mode and turn off auto detection -- it's not needed.  Select the right adapter manually.

If you can't find the right adapter, please post here and tell me what network adapter card is in your computer.
26232
If there is no adapter that matches your network, it has nothing to do with the license key (we wouldn't do a tricky thing like that!).

It may have to do with the winpcap driver not supporting your network adapter; one thing to try is to visit the winpcap site and download the latest beta of winpcap and see if that works.

hey this could be useful!

nice work abterix!

it's almost certainly an issue with Large Fonts setting, which have caused me no end of problems.

Quick note about member ricd not joining us --

In the end it turned out it was just going to be Josh's family that was visiting me and since i've known josh for quite a while, we just decided it might be better for ricd to wait until the next real gathering which i hope he will be at!  We just need to get a few more people to these things :)
26239
I hesitate to add this because i think it's going to get so little use, BUT i could add a field to each alias where you can specify a kind of "default text string" that would be used if triggered via a hotkey or selected from the agroups "menu".  thoughts?
26240
my memory is you can simply drag and move these folders from windows explorer to somewhere else, and windows will realize what you are doing and accept the new locations.
26241
i'm working to make it feel more responsive.
26242
turns out skrommel is a charming 5yr old girl.
during the gathering she painted some pictures, went on the swings, and coded up some software for us.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Alias icon not showing
« Last post by mouser on July 14, 2007, 09:49 PM »
it's not really a bug -- the path to the icon is taken as relative to the current alias file directory.
so you need to put the icon file inside your myalias.alias directory (in a subfolder names icons in your case) for it to find it.

My apologies, the list is for the second photo.

Now, for the mystery moment of the day. Which one of these is mouser from donationcoder.com, and which one is a lieutenant from Josh's unit.

EDIT: This is josh taking over mouser's computer.

Josh and I are happy to announce the winners of the Find and Run Robot Plugin Programming Contest.

The grand prize winner is Tachimaster, who lived up to his name and mastered the plugin sdk completely.
He wrote four amazing plugins, and even went so far as to make them updatable using the dcupdate tool:

Taichi will win a high-end copy of Borland's Developer Studio (C++ Builder, Delphi, etc) , and a copy of Microsoft's Visual Studio Standard (unless he has it).

Congratulations Taichi!

Runner up is Hamradio, who wrote a nice plugin for generating random passwords/emails, but who also did some amazing work helping build the FARR 2 icons and rearranging the new alias files.  For his plugin work and other contributions, we have awarded him a copy of Borland's Turbo C++ Pro.

Congratulations HamRadio!

Both coders also receive a Plugin Writer Mug with Cody's Picture on it, and we will still be giving out these mugs to future plugin writers, while supplies last!

(Taichi and HamRadio please contact us through email or irc to claim your prizes).

what i can do is force update IMMEDIATELY after aliases are found, which would solve this problem.
