Developer's Corner / Google opens Maps to bring the real world into games
« Last post by mouser on March 14, 2018, 03:44 PM »
I have flirted with some ideas of games based on real world large-scale map data, so this is pretty cool news.

The search firm is both opening its Maps platform's real-time data and offering new software toolkits that will help developers build games based on that data. The software includes both a kit to translate map info to the Unity game engine as well as another to help make games using that location data.

UrlSnooper / Re: EAccessViolation error
« Last post by mouser on March 12, 2018, 11:04 AM »
I have tried UrlSnooper now on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, and it worked perfectly.. So I am unsure what the problem could be.
Can you try using the portable version and see if that works?

I think the solution for ransomware is to just make regular backups of everything that's important. If you get hit by some ransomware, just format everything and restore from backup.

Bingo.
In my view this is the proper solution to almost any security breach. Trying to "repair" the damage is an uphill battle.  Better to just restore from a known good state.

In Screenshot Captor, you can edit/move/delete objects after you have saved the file, the trick is that in order to select an object you have to go into Object Editing Mode.  You can do that by simply double-clicking the item to enter object editing mode and select the object, then hit Delete key to delete it.

Baby cody has been chirping about wanting to hear you play your cello, Carol -- I hope you can bring him to a performance.  Do you have an album for purchase yet?

Minor update posted with better ability to easily resize preserving aspect ratio in region select mode -- very useful when used with your list of MyFavorite region sizes:
  • Trigger a region capture
  • Hit 1-9 key to select your preset region size
  • Now just move the mouse to move the region, or hold alt and move mouse to resize preserving aspect ratio.

Do you have idea if i can integrate minicap.exe to VB.NET visual basic codes?
I'm not a vb coder but it should be very easy (just 1 line of code to a ShellExecuteEx type function) to launch minicap with a set of commandline parameters.

« Last post by mouser on March 08, 2018, 04:58 PM »
comcast is an evil internet provider when it comes to cost, but your friend may have a very hard time finding a better performing provider in her area.  AT+T is another common provider but it would surprise me if they were any better performance wise.
her list of options is going to be very small and completely dependent on her local neighborhood -- i don't think anyone else not living in her immediate proximity is going to be able to offer much advice.

Can you try this beta:

You can try passing the -noerr commandline parameter.
More importantly, the -stderr option that you tried in the past which did not work should now work properly in this case.

There are 2 things that cause/effect this:

Go to the text box object.
  • At the very top of the text box options panel there is a transparency/opacity slider.  Set that to 255 to make it not show through the background.
  • And *ALSO* (this is the more confusing one) is the Blend Mode at the bottom. You should set this to NORMAL if you don't want to see any background shining through.  Setting this to something else could cause the background to shine through in different ways.

It's nice that these security programs are trying to protect us, but it's absolutely unacceptable for these programs not to be designed with the assumption that they are going to make false positive mistakes.  They should make it super easy to undo any action they might take.  Any program that doesn't do that is not ready for public use.

This was something I fixed in the latest update!

Make sure you have the latest version and make sure this option is unchecked:

But we need the file name to be exact as this  "$dt:%Y %B %d  %H-%M-%S$"  "2018 March 07  03-50-11"

It can't be EXACTLY like that because that filename is not unique if you launch this several times within one second. We could add milliseconds to the time value though, so like "2018 March 07  03-50-11-01"

Unless you are saying that if the file already exists it should just exit and not save the file.  It would be very easy to add an option for this, to simply suppress the error and not save the file if a file already exists with that name.  Is that what you'd prefer?
