General Software Discussion / Re: My favorite software! What's yours?
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 02, 2007, 12:16 AM »
Fantastic post, BrokenNails!
I see you use almost every single "favourite" piece of software mentioned in this forum.. eheh :)

(and one that actually supports the media buttons on my keyboard)
Are you sure you haven't got the "global hotkeys" disabled? I think those are disabled by default (go figure!).
Just go to options -> preferences -> global hotkeys and check "enabled" ;)

Can you change the battery?
-Carol Haynes (July 01, 2007, 06:27 AM)
"Why would you need to change the battery? It's beautiful, does anything else matter?"
;)

[edit] No, would never buy it. But if someone offered me one, i wouldn't refuse. I could always sell it to a dumb rich kid ;) [/edit]

Post New Requests Here / Re: Request: Force NUMLOCK always on
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 30, 2007, 05:10 AM »
ah, i misread the earlier posts but still a script written in AHK could monitor the situation and toggle the numlock status. i'll post one in a day or two if no one beats me to it.. ;) btw, Ralf what's the model of your Optiflex?
I also thought so,but apparently an ahk script that toggles the state of numlock has no effect on my computer, other than toggling the led that reports numlock's state...
Possibly it's because a laptop, but that means i can't test any script i make :(

General Software Discussion / Re: Ditto: yet another free clipboard manager
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 29, 2007, 08:31 AM »
What i love about ditto (i've been using it since i opened this thread), is how it handles all kinds of clipboard items, not only text.
It can store text, images, formated text, and (very specially) links for files.
That last part is where i think it is unique. When i copy a file on explorer, it is stored in Ditto (not the file, only the link to it). So, i can later want to move that file anywhere and paste it through Ditto.
It's also very useful when you want to move a bunch of files to different places in your computer. You can just copy them all at once, and then just go drop them where you need to.

I also like how it's very fast and reliable. The only problems i've found is that there's a slight delay from the moment i press ctrl-c and it makes the "copy sound", and how can be a bit hungry for memory.

Where are the grid  files stored?
Once you run GridMove for the first time, everything is unpacked to the directory where GridMove is launched. Thus, they should be in a folder called "Grids", located where GridMove's executable is.

Interesting... Apparently, the command does have an effect on my computer: the led signaling numlock's state doesn't change anymore. Too bad that numlock's state does :(

In autohotkey, the following code was supposed to do what you're asking for:

;
;By jgpaiva
;date: June 2007
;Function:

#installkeybdhook
SetNumLockState,On
SetNumLockState,AlwaysOn
return
It isn't working here, maybe because i own a laptop, so.. Just give it a go ;)

plugin that shows list of of add/remove entries and select to uninstall.
Now that'd be cool! (even though i don't unninstall software that often)
2588
(i'd still go for the one without the background.)
So would i. I think the first one is the best.

General Software Discussion / Re: Any "search this folder only" engines?
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 28, 2007, 11:02 AM »
Don't forget that, because google has to index pages, you can't use the method i mentioned to search for recent topics, because they probably won't be in google's database.
What i don't know is how much time it takes for them to re-index donationcoder.com.

But I searched from the top level on the DC forum and only had three hits for Volumouse - none of which were from you.
https://www.donation...23.msg55233#msg55233 :)

When i can't find something through DC search, i always use google, with a query like "site:donationcoder.com volumouse" :)

Also, http://www.shitware.net would probably be a good resource too ;)

General Software Discussion / Ditto: yet another free clipboard manager
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 28, 2007, 06:36 AM »
Through this post by ak_, i've found a fantastic piece of software.

Meed Ditto.
Ditto_pic.jpg

It's quite simplistic, only one options window and a quick paste window.
Though, it's quite powerful!! It can handle several types of files in the clipboard and it works VERY well.
I'm definitelly surprised, it's worth a try.

Also, while reading through Ditto's forums, i found an interesting idea: Stack Copy. It's something i had never thought, but it'd be extremelly useful, since i've used CHS several times to reproduce this behaviour.

BEAUTIFUL!!  :-* :-* :-*

We need to find you a better icon for that "help" button, i think it isn't as good as the rest of the interface.

*jgpaiva searches the interweb*

[edit] that was fast.

what do you think about the following icon:
http://tango.freedes...pps/help-browser.svg

It's from the Tango Icon Gallery, and from what i found, can be used in apps as long as there's a link to the tango gallery somewhere. [/edit]
2594
Man.. I love that logo!!
2595
as i use the revolutionary and always astounding, dialogmove, i don't mind the message boxes appearing  ;) but i may remove them in a minute.
;D ;D

i have named the script "bodysnatcher" as a tribute to the movie "invasion of the bodysnatchers" as this pretty much describes the process that happens to the files.
Now that's a catchy name :P
I love when people come up with names for the programs i make. Finding the right name is half the effort. At least for me ;)

cody will send you something in a minute.
many many thanks.
No... Thank you!!

I'd definitelly be interested in a demo!
DC has a great user base, i bet you could get some great ideas here too ;)

As for the "record to flash movie" thing, you probably should take a look at the ScreenCasting review, here on DC!

2guidropfiles:

  file2 := A_GuiEvent

  GuiControl,2:text, text2, -No File-
  msgbox,Done
  return

GuiClose:
2GuiClose:
  exitapp

f2::reload

As usual, just copy to a text file, name it as "whatever.ahk" and run it :)

A few important details:
- There are a few msgboxes that can you probably won't like, because they break the workflow. If so, just delete the lines with "msgbox".
- The order isn't relevant, as long as you drop the files on the correct GUIs.
- If you decide to keep the boxes, you can cancel the move operation by selecting "exit" from the tray menu before pressing ok on the first box.

THIS IS IMPORTANT: if you remove the message boxes, there's no way to cancel the operation. Still, the old file will be moved to the recycle bin.

[edit] Here's the source in a .ahk file:  and the compiled version: [ Invalid Attachment ] [/edit]
2598
I think it's not possible to do drag-drop on to the other file, because that is already a behaviour that is specified in windows: it starts that other file, with the dropped file as argument.
But it shouldn't be hard to make a gui, where you'd drop first one file, then the other one, and it'd do what you want.

General Software Discussion / Re: Is the Windows start menu dead?
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 22, 2007, 04:53 PM »
Very good point, tinjaw!
That's something i hadn't thought of. I do use the start menu, just not my own :D
When on my university's computers, i always use the start menu, and it's much handier than searching for the apps, because they scatter everything all over the c: disk. (they do have good reasons to do that, tough ;) )
