That article makes it seem not so bad in the opening paragraph when it talks about it being an exploit for an outdated version of WordPress. Then it says the exploit was fixed only about 2.5 weeks ago.

I do manually check my WordPress sites every so often to make sure they are updated, but that is probably on average about once per month. So yeah, thank goodness for WordPress auto-updates, because if not for that, my sites would probably be vulnerable as well.

That was my problem - the fact that my partner put other WP sites on the server that I didn't know about.  And therefore, they weren't checked nor updated.  It's a very big pain, and I definitely see the ramifications of it now.

You didn't address the main point made:
the idea is dc be family-friendly, and free of religion and politics, directly or indirectly. Which doesn't seem very complicated to me, and you choose to ignore it in what seems like a pointed manner at times.

@wraith808:
I don't get what you want from posting this.  Do you want someone to say "no, it was ok?"  Several people have already chimed in.  So no matter what pedantic definitions are brought forth, it would seem that precedence and preference - especially endorsed/started by mouser, would say that the appropriate response might be "Hey didn't know.  Will keep that in mind."  Or silence, and just taking the hit and continuing forward.  Food for thought.

If that was addressed to me, in answer to your first question I would have to ask: Why do you assume that I "want" anything from it?
I apologise if you somehow took it amiss - it was not even directed at you - but I was genuinely and politely correcting the shortened form of the thread title, as it had been misquoted by @Curt in using it as an umbrella term, and then providing examples of black humour including reference to death, thus politely implying that in neither case would it be correct to call them "morbid" - which is why I gave the definition from the Concise Oxford Dictionary (10th Ed.).

I could be wrong, of course, but I think English may not be @Curt's first language, and, if that is the case, then he seems to do very well indeed with it, and I would not be so rude as to criticise his use of English.
I think he almost certainly knew what it was he objected to, but it wouldn't be "morbid" humour (if there is such a thing), by definition (QED). I can only guess at what he was objecting to. Maybe there is not an English word that fits what he might mean in his own language? I'm sure he could tell us if you asked him nicely.

As to your second question and the curious statement(s) that follow it, I am at a loss to understand why you imagine I would be interested in attempting to clarify my earlier posting in response to @mouser, regarding the would-be-slave-owner.
As far as I am concerned, I had said all that I needed to say to him on the subject, and even said that I couldn't help him any more on that.
I mean, he's quite entitled as the site Admin. to say what he did, just as I am entitled to post about something harmless and stupid that I found LOL and hugely ironic. In fact, it is so ironic that I wonder whether people can actually see it. I did say it was priceless. It's a beaut, it really is. Typical Daily Mail. I presume the journos at the Daily Mail who posted it would have seen the irony, and it would have destroyed the joke to have explained it.

So, having finished the subject with the response to @mouserI certainly didn't intend to add to it with @Curt or anyone else, but you seem to want to pursue it. I can't think why - it's all over and donewith. Forget about it. Let it go.

Do please remember that this is the silly humour thread, and that it would be a needless waste of energy to get all twisted up and antagonistic about things where all is otherwise potentially good humour and friendliness. Also, I would recommend that you take anything I say in this thread as having been said tongue-in-cheek and with a heavy dollop of amiable humour and sarcasm.

In closing, I'd be obliged if you could avoid any further harassment of me in future, upon my making helpful and inoffensive posts to other people, in this or other discussion threads.

It is neither helpful nor inoffensive, in all truth.  As mouser said, he stands by his earlier statement on said post.  And personally, if you didn't know my earlier post was for you, even though I quoted your entire post, I give up.

Thread's title: "silly humor". But morbidity is not humour! As silly as it may be, to be morbid, it is not humour - not even silly humor.
____________________
Yes, well, the full title of this thread seems to be: Re: silly humor - post 'em here! [warning some NSFW and adult content]
It is thus a catch-all for humour, and where "Re:" means:
re1 /ri;, reI/
· prep.
1 in the matter of (used in headings or to introduce a reference).
2 about; concerning.
– ORIGIN L., ablative of res ‘thing’.
______________________________
Concise Oxford Dictionary (10th Ed.)

So, it would seem to be generally all about humour.
Maybe I haven't been around here long enough, but I don't recall having read/seen much - if any - morbid humour on this discussion board, though I must admit that I was unaware that morbid humour per se (if there is any) was to be deemed by officialdom as verboten and categorically being non-humourous, for whatever reason. Presumably something might appeal to one person's sense of humour but not to another's, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is thus ipso facto not humorous by definition. On the contrary, one often sees jokes in this thread that one may garner little amusement from, but one is pleased that they were put there, nonetheless, as they offer a risk opportunity that they might be found to be funny.

Just like black humour, jokes about death would presumably surely have a place in any culture as a response to adversity and to act as a very healthy coping response to adversity, as I described in a comment above.
Thus there are quite a lot of jokes that would fall into the category of black humour or "undertaker jokes" - and some of them, though being about death or imminent death are not necessarily morbid per se and make various subtle social comments, often containing some irony, and can be quite cleverly amusing, as in these 2 examples:
  • Firing squad.
Two Jewish concentration camp prisoners were about to be shot by a Nazi firing squad.
They were marched to the execution site, told to face the soldiers in the firing squad, and blindfolded.
As soon as the prisoners had been blindfolded, one of them turned around in protest so as to face away from the firing squad.
The Nazi squad captain screamed at him to turn around and face the squad, but the prisoner did not move.
The other blindfolded prisoner said "Moshe, what is it hat you are doing that the captain is screaming at you?"
Moshe replied, "I'm making a protest and facing away from the firing squad".
The other prisoner said "Moshe, you don't have to do that. Don't make them angry."

  • Lunchbox suicide.
An Irishman, a Mexican and a blonde Englishman were doing construction work on scaffolding on the 20th floor of a building.
They had sat down to eat lunch, and were opening their lunchboxes when the Irishman said, "Corned beef and cabbage! If Oi get corned beef and cabbage one more time for me lunch, den Oi'm going to jump off dis building!"

The Mexican opened his lunch box and exclaimed,"Burritos again! If I get zese burritos one more time I'm a gonna jump off too!"

The blonde opened his lunch and said, "Bologna again! If I get a bologna sandwich one more time, I'm jumping too!"'

The next day, the Irishman opened his lunchbox, saw corned beef and cabbage, and jumped to his death.
The Mexican opened his lunchbox, saw a burrito, and jumped, too.
The blonde guy opened his lunchbox, saw the bologna and jumped to his death as well.

At their triple funeral, the Irishman's widow was weeping. She said, "Oh, if only I'd known how really tired he was of corned beef and cabbage, I never would have given it to him again!"
The Mexican's widow also wept, and said, "I could have given him tacos or enchiladas! I didn't realize he hated burritos so much."
The two wives looked expectantly at the weeping blonde guy's widow. She dabbed her eyes with a tissue and said, "I just can't understand it. He always made his own lunch."

By the way, I usually find this definition quite handy: (my emphasis)
morbid
· adj.
1 characterized by or appealing to an abnormal and unhealthy interest in unpleasant subjects, especially death and disease.
2 Medicine of the nature of or indicative of disease.
– DERIVATIVES morbidity n. morbidly adv. morbidness n.
– ORIGIN C17: from L. morbidus, from morbus ‘disease’.

I've been removed from two - Barracuda and Truncate.  Protected sky doesn't show me if I dig from the shell, but shows me if I search on MxToolbox.  I actually have two servers, so I just started using the mail server on the second server rather than going through changing the IP.

iain, that is disturbing but i dont think it really falls into the humor category of this thread.

Agreed.

Any news on a better video quality version folks?

This is an closed source project, continued from a questionably open source project by someone that doesn't seem to visit the site anymore.

As stated by 4wd above, the original source is still available: http://stream-record...61&postcount=435

However, I wouldn't expect any further development here, unless asudem unexpectedly returns.

Strange... if I use the easy way at mxtoolbox.com, I'm listed on Protected Sky.  If I do a dig on my mailserver from protected sky, i.e. dig [ip address].bad.psky.me, I get back that I'm not, i.e. status: NOERROR

I don't know enough about this stuff... does anyone have any ideas?

That's what I was afraid of.  How long does it usually take?  Not being able to send e-mail is more than a little inconvenient, especially as I have other clients on that server :(  I was thinking if it was going to be an extended period of time, I've needed to update my infrastructure for a while which was going to change my IP and was going to be work... but it would serve to get me off their lists.

I run my own server on a highly regarded data center's infrastructure, and have a lot of different domains, and troublingly for this issue, mailing lists for several PbEMs.  One of the sites on one of the domains hosted by a client had a wordpress vulnerability that was exploited to send spam.  I've closed that hole, and made sure that it won't happen again as I'm now aware of the wordpress site, and have made it have autoupdates.

However, I'm dealing with the fallout from the spammer's e-mails.  I've contacted yahoo, setup spfs, and contacted barracuda, but it's so bad now that I can't even send e-mail from myself to my family, as my family's e-mail forwarding is on my domain hosted by google.  A couple of those spam lists are totally automated also, so I can't even request for leniency nor a re-evaluation.  How can I facilitate getting my reputation restored?  Or is there any way?

That is the view that's going around the web, through various sites and rumours.  What was communicated to customers was different.

Dear Cloudflare Customer:

Thursday afternoon, we published a blog post describing a memory leak caused by a serious bug that impacted Cloudflare's systems. If you haven't yet, I encourage you to read that post on the bug:

https://blog.cloudfl...oudflare-parser-bug/

While we resolved the bug within hours of it being reported to us, there was an ongoing risk that some of our customers' sensitive information could still be available through third party caches, such as the Google search cache.

Over the last week, we've worked with these caches to discover what customers may have had sensitive information exposed and ensure that the caches are purged. We waited to disclose the bug publicly until after these caches could be cleared in order to mitigate the ability of malicious individuals to exploit any exposed data.

In our review of these third party caches, we discovered data that had been exposed from approximately 150 of Cloudflare's customers across our Free, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans. We have reached out to these customers directly to provide them with a copy of the data that was exposed, help them understand its impact, and help them mitigate that impact.

Fortunately, your domain is not one of the domains where we have discovered exposed data in any third party caches. The bug has been patched so it is no longer leaking data. However, we continue to work with these caches to review their records and help them purge any exposed data we find. If we discover any data leaked about your domains during this search, we will reach out to you directly and provide you full details of what we have found.

To date, we have yet to find any instance of the bug being exploited, but we recommend if you are concerned that you invalidate and reissue any persistent secrets, such as long lived session identifiers, tokens or keys. Due to the nature of the bug, customer SSL keys were not exposed and do not need to be rotated.

Again, if we discover new information that impacts you, we will reach out to you directly. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Initial report: https://bugs.chromiu...ssues/detail?id=1139

I think that people are trying to make this something that it's not.

We quickly identified the problem and turned off three minor Cloudflare features (email obfuscation, Server-side Excludes and Automatic HTTPS Rewrites) that were all using the same HTML parser chain that was causing the leakage. At that point it was no longer possible for memory to be returned in an HTTP response.

So if you're not using those features, your site was not going through the bad code.

The greatest period of impact was from February 13 and February 18 with around 1 in every 3,300,000 HTTP requests through Cloudflare potentially resulting in memory leakage (that’s about 0.00003% of requests).

It may be a browser issue -- what browser are you using? Have you tried chrome?
Darn, it is indeed most likely browser related, tried before with Firefox and Pale Moon (a FF derivate), but in Chrome there is no such issue :o

In IE it is even worse, there it includes the line numbers and inserts an extra blank line between each line :'( (but I only use IE for an internal work-site that uses ActiveX stuff, phew)

Examples:
[ Invalid Attachment ]

I'll have to take my complaints elsewhere, I guess :-[ ;D
Thanks for the feedback, didn't expect that.

Might it be an extension?

4 line
Según el autor de este artículo, Kent fue el creador directo de su Repertorio, mientras que sus otros escritos, fueron una recopilación de los apuntes o notas que sus alumnos tomaban durante las clases que él dictaba.

This is not such a good example, as it has only 1 period, so the entire line is removed in step 1...

Well, wouldn't it be a good example?  What does he want done if this happens?

Keybase updated itself today and now I'm stuck on the loading screen again...

Mine did also, but it worked flawlessly.  I'm going to try on my other machine, because it didn't autoupdate, and see if I get the same results.

I find this scary and depressing, and I hardly use my phone for anything -- but they would be able to access email.

Same here.  I'm to the point that I only access text, email, and phone functions on my phone, and I do access my books.  And I rarely use it for those.  And on my next trip, I'll probably just get a corporate phone, rather than paying the $40 and getting access on my own phone.
2521
Some of it doesn't make sense to me. If they can compel you to unlock your own device, they can also compel you to sign into a device that isn't yours, which will then sync all your data to it.

That won't work in some cases.  Like for instance, I use mine as 2fa.  You can get me to sign in on another device all you want, but if I don't have the phone, I can't log in.

I’ll never bring my phone on an international flight again. Neither should you.

Crazy stuff!  On the one hand, I don't have anything to hide.  But then, I think... everyone has something to hide.  And who knows how they will construe the information they have.  And as pointed out in the article:

“We should treat personal electronic data with the same care and respect as weapons-grade plutonium — it is dangerous, long-lasting and once it has leaked there’s no getting it back.” — Cory Doctorow

I was just concerned with the price and discrepancy of international flights before.  Now I have a whole new worry... :(

A couple of choices for you:

Notepad++

http://www.makeuseof...s-beginners-windows/

Atom

https://discuss.atom...nes-by-content/11745

Sublime Text

There are a couple of packages that sync scrolls between views.

https://packagecontr...Sync%20View%20Scroll
https://packagecontr...d%20File%20Scrolling

The weaknesses of all of these methods is (a) the files will not be related, and (b) they're all plain text, though you can use markdown and a tool (likke my own markdownbuddy) to shownthe formatted document in a different window.

Is it necessary that it have a contiguous page?

For what I have in mind, yes, I would need the full page.
If you have other suggestions though, throw them out there.

No, I was just trying to see the actual requirements, as I know that Word and Google Docs allow you to comment on the text of the document in the sidebar, but it's not contiguous, and each is its own issue to resolve.
