Another tip is to avoid double-click and middle-click. This will depend on your mouse, but most middle buttons I've met have *not* been easy :p
For double-click, if possible, I will click to select, then press the enter key.

At the moment, on a laptop without mouse, I use my main hand on the trackpad, but I use a finger from the other hand to hit left- or right-click. It's much easier on the trackpad-hand/wrist/thumb.

Well, tbh, when it comes to this...As far as I am aware, they don't e-mail you shit to click to download - They just download it to your PC if you pre-ordered via the annoying popup, then it will give you an annoying popup to tell you it's done doing whatever it did.

It does specifically say, in that stupid popup, that when it is ready, that window will let you know - absolutely nothing about "We will e-mail you"

dont be too quick of the mark there Stephen - I got asked when I 'reserved' my copy, if I wanted email notification.

^thanks Shades.

More Aomei experiences:
I wanted to delete a partition; incorporate the freed-up space into 'C'; then divide 'C' into three partitions:
[C | Data | Partition-with-space-for-one-backup-image]

Aomei Partition Assistant:
# I created a boot usb-flash-drive (it's Win PE)
# on a laptop with three partitions (one a miniscule one with some Dell tools), I:
  • deleted the 12GB 'Recovery' partition
  • I then had to *move* (and resize) the 'C partition so as it would take over the now unallocated space (this was slow: I had to use an 'up' arrow to increase the size of 'C')

At this stage I rebooted: everything was fine so I created a new 'System image' using Aomei Backerupper
I then booted again with Aomei Partition and:
  • split 'C' into two partitions
  • then split the newly made partition into two partitions

This one worked fine too
So all in all a very successful experience with both tools :-*

I sympathise :(

Oh, bloody hell....and if you think that there is a setting somewhere within Windows where someone could toggle between private and public networks then you can go take a seat on the left side of the room with all the sane people. Unfortunately, all of the Microsoft employees will be sitting on the other side of the room because no such function exists.
got a blue screen "SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION (NETIO.SYS)" error. It's only happened once and I haven't been able to reproduce it, but I'm very wary. Internet searches will tell you it could be anything from your motherboard to your hard drive or even your NIC...there may even be evidence it's because you weren't loved enough as a child.
but thanks for the laughs ;D

All that stuff that broke - did that work okay with the in place install you did first?

have you tried a windows 7 recovery disc (on usb of course) ?
(FWIW, I made an ISO of the CD and used Rufus to 'burn' it to usb-stick)

EDIT// I guess it probably wont work if the installation disc wont work - but I did have some success in repairing a MBR (that could not find the OS install) lately with it

Hard-core tools, software that does not use the installed Windows, doesn't care. This type of software is probably not for the faint of heart...but imho is usually less messy that the kind that uses Windows.

I'm sometimes faint of heart, but always curious ;-)
so just wondering, can you give an example there ?
2509
When you create an image, the whole concept is to take everything.  If you don't want that, you are making a plain file backup.

hiberfile.sys and the paging file are often excluded by default by this type of software when creating an image file

Depending on the format used for the generated image file, there might be software that allows you to peek inside those files, allowing you to read and copy stuff from that image file.
Yeah,
Aomei does allow to mount an image and copy files from that.

I think it's a bit buggy at times...
I reserved (on windows 8.1). A couple of days ago it stopped showing me updates for 8.1 and had a big notice about 10 - but still wasnt offering it for download. It did correct itself - I cant remember was a reboot required - all of which is not much help, but gives me the chance to say:
!! hello !! :)
2511
 Well, I successfully restored one system image via Aomei Backerupper free version (henceforth 'AB')

did (another) restore - just of the OS partition - worked fine again
Previous restore was from a 'System backup' image which includes any hidden boot mumbo-jumbo :p :)

Comparison chart:
http://www.backup-ut...tion-comparison.html

"Exclude Files from File Backup" is listed for all editions:
does anyone know if this is possible when creating an image? (I think it isn't possible to exclude files from an image, but hope I'm wrong)

^ that not-knowing makes me wary of messing with the partitions.

I had been thinking of:
  • deleting the Recovery partition
  • adding that space to (C:)
  • shrinking (C:) at the end, and creating a new (D:) for data

but I'm not sure:
   a) will Aomei restore to a different size partition (in case a restore is necessary)
   b) will this boot partition cause problems
   c) if this all does *not* work, will I be able to restore the partitions to thier previous state. Note: I've done two image-restores of 'C' using Aomei - one was 'just' a partition restore, the other a restore from a 'System Backup' image - I'm not sure what exactly that involves (+MBR?) - but both worked well.
Aomei also does full disk image backup - but I'm not clear if this can be restored to a non partitioned or differently partitioned drive....

I'm still unsure how many partitions are in it:

1) The first mini-partition has DELL tools - it is shown and has a label (V:)
2) Second partition is Recovery, and is labeled with an asterisk* - and is not shown in e.g. file manager
3) Third is the OS (C:)
4) is there also a mini boot partition?? - read on:

System restore shows "RECOVERY ()" and 'C' and a "Boot (X:)" partition.
And Aomei Backupper also shows a "Boot (X:)" (from it's winPE boot disc) when I go to save the image (see screenshot)
Oddly this Boot partition is *not* shown by:
# Windows disk management
# Aomei PArtition manager
# Eassos PArtition Guru
# GParted

Note: the labeling is different in this image/dialogue (due to it being from a boot usb-stick). Important is the precence of Boot patition not seen by Partition programmes :-/)

There seems to be several tutorials on uninstalling games in Windows 8.  Have you tried any of them?

I installed some games under the tablet mode in win8
I now want to uninstall them, but I can't find them in Add/Remove Programs!!!

IIRC you can right-click on a tile in Metro-mode and uninstall then
(I'm on Windows 7 atm)

Next will be my 24/7 TV recorder/downloader/fax computer, also x86, where they're still "validating" the upgrade.  If that goes OK, I might bite the bullet and do the wife's machine  >:D

I think I'll write my will while I still have arms and legs.

My experience is that you have to stop using the injured hand in the manner that caused the problem - i.e. if mouse, change hands completely, and let your other hand rest completely - or as completely as possibly. Since I had problems, I use a symmetrical mouse - I never bothered with reversing mouse-buttons either, and have little problems when changing. Try and keep your wrist as vertical as possible, as much as possible. If you have to work with the wrist rotated e.g. typing, rotate the wrist as often as possible in the opposite direction.

This sort of thing can kick in very quickly - e.g. if you rest your wrist on the sharp edge of a table, or I find with laptops on your lap where you work a lot with the wrists bent.
Or if you have to use crutches for a while :-(

Here's some exercises for tendonitis - disclaimer: I dont know will these help you if your tendons are seriously damaged:

Lifehacker ... have this video embedded
Video podcast - exercises for tendonitis and carpal tunnel which they better describe as "Use exercises to ward off RSI" - they're very good exercises if you spend a lot of time at the keyboard and/or using the mouse -
it feels really good to stretch those tendons ;)

mouser I've even been having problems with a FHD 15.6" screen (1920 x 1080).
I have the text @ 125%

Screenshot Captor:
in options, it look like the text is not enlarged.
In the main window, the menu text is correct, but the icons look miniscule, and the text at the top of the viewer pane is cropped (Autofit, etc.)

In FARR's options, the text looks enlarged but there are multiple places where text is cut off or overlapping.
I havent added my lisence yet on this machine, and the popups (on windows start) also have overlapping text (yet the text looks too small to read - will try remember to get a snap when I reboot).

The first serious problem was that Windows wouldn't accept my bi-language Win 7 installation, so to speak. First it was English, then I installed a Danish version on top. It used to work fine, but Win 10 said that now I had chosen (rubbish; I was never given any choice!) to install a Danish Win 10 version and I would therefore loose all my third party programs. ALL of them!!!

that does not sound good :(
FWIW it was very easy to change in Windows 8...

I don't think it's weird they began upgrading several hours before midnight; they are serving quite a lot of machines.

Okay, so you are in a part of the world where it's tomorrow already then ... Yes?

How many hours before midnight are we talking here??? :D

I'm pretty sure Curt's in the same timezone as me - it's five minutes to midnight as I write

Presumably the download page is easy enough to modify?  A notice there would enhance the usage: currently it states Win2K, WinXP, but the program in fact works fine on Win7 and Win8.1 -- provided it is given administrator privileges.

I'd be happy to modify the page text myself (to put action behind the suggestion)  ;)

that would be nice to be able to do, but unfortunately we cant.**
The site is being upgraded at the moment, so may be better this way in the future, (but I'm not sure).

** message for any moderators &/or mouser:
dont know can moderators do that? (modify an abandoned dc software page?)
This forum board does not name any particular moderator, but I presume it was originally the author (chr15).

Update 16/07/2015 windows 10 10240 rtm is released for windows insiders
by philipyip

You cannot clean install initially otherwise you pass up your free upgrade

Upgrade to windows 10 via windows update or beginning the windows 10 setup within the windows 10 desktop. This will register your device as a windows 10 device and you may then create a recovery drive and clean install.

From my extensive testing of the new Microsoft Product Testing introduced into Microsoft Windows 10 RTM I can tell you the following:

◾Direct clean installation from Windows 10 Installation Media, skipping product key twice or using the generic key leads to an unactivated product.
◾Using the .iso to upgrade from the Windows Desktop will only allow activated versions of Windows to release the license agreement screen. This only allows Activated versions of Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Insider 10130.
◾For Windows Insiders Windows 10130 is then updated to Windows 10162 via Windows Update and this is updated via Windows Update to Windows 10240 (RTM) .
◾Once the initial upgrade to Windows 10240 is complete the device is registered to Microsoft as a Windows 10 Device.
◾Once a device is registered, you may create a Recovery Drive and Clean Install.
◾The Recovery Drive may be used on other devices but you will encounter Microsoft Product Activation issues if the device isn’t initially upgraded via Windows Update and Registered as a Windows 10 10240 RTM device.
◾The product activation is tied to the device. You can reinstall using a different Microsoft Account or Local Account and the device will activate.
◾You may change minor hardware such as a SSD/HDD and clean install. I changed from a SSD to HDD for a quick test and Microsoft Product Activation was applied.
◾It seems Windows Insiders with Build 10130 will be passed as eligible to reach Windows 10 RTM even those who lacked a Windows 7/8.1 Base license. Those who look to join the Windows 10 Insider program after the Windows 10130 .isos have been removed will not be able to install and activate Windows 10 Insider 10240 RTM.
