DcUpdater / Re: Screenshot Captor 2.37.01??
« Last post by mouser on December 02, 2007, 05:50 PM »
does your about box say 2.37.03?
sometimes what happens is i release a super minor update that is so trivial i dont want to bother the people via dcupdate.  maybe i nice solution would be a way to mark updates as betas, and then have have dcupdater option to check if you want to be notified of such things.. something like that.

Developer's Corner / Re: Look For Premade Gallery Scripts/Generator
« Last post by mouser on December 02, 2007, 05:27 PM »
I just insert a line of script into tinjaw.dcmembers.com/MySoftware.html. Then at the place I inserted the line of script I see a 400x300 images of my first screen shot

yes that is a sort of unusual request, but makes a lot of sense.
the brute force way to do it is to use any gallery maker software and then just independently make the thumbnail on your web page, and link is so it opens and shows the appropriate image in the gallery.

but it would be nice if there was a complete script solution which exposed functions specifically for embedding thumbnails easily.

Jalbum has themes that do what you want i think:
https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=7290.0

i'm not 100% sure exactly how you want it to behave though.

jalbum is also a local pc application that creates pages you upload -- you might prefer an online only thing, like: Gallery.

Living Room / Recommended Gifts for the Tech Savvy?
« Last post by mouser on December 02, 2007, 03:39 PM »
Since most of us here are into technical gadgets and stuff, i thought we might start a thread where people could post suggestions for gifts for people during this holiday season.  Or if you aren't into gift giving but still want to recommend some gadgets, go for it.  All price ranges.

I'll start off with a couple of my favorites:

it might be nice to have the option to name the zip as the FIRST file in the zip if there are more than 1 per zip.

jeromg, thats a wonderful find i never heard about!
24858
this is not a bad idea..

an alternative solution would be to make options so you can tell sc to execute a commandline tool before it takes a screenshot, and then another afterwards.

that would let you use a commandline tool to turn off and on cleartype, or do anything else of a similar nature.

go for it urlwolf, there's still time for your entry.

Excellent work arjen!
i think it could have used a few more examples of it being triggered, to jump between files -- but it's great, one gets the idea.
very useful tool too!

well that is an interesting clue.. at least it changing appearance means it is working.. i'll test it in a vmware and see if i can see what's what.

It's a fun idea but i dont think matching funds are right for our site.  We aren't a real "charity" and i dont think companies will want to do this..  Maybe something similar could be done though.

All participants:

You will be getting a custom rare limited edition GOE Programming Challenge mug starring our mascot Cody.

If you already have a mug (or don't like mugs), please go to this cafepress shop page for donationcoder:
http://www.cafepress.com/donationcoder or go to http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/ for even more products, and pick out something you want instead of a mug (don't worry about the images on the objects -- whatever you choose will have the GOE challenge cody on it).

Then fill in your full name and shipping address and submit it here:
https://www.donation...MemberKit/index.html
MAKE SURE TO add that this is for the GOE programming prize and specify if you want something other than a mug.

I'll be making a web page listing all of these entries (like the one at http://nany.donationcoder.com), so please make sure you all have a screenshot you like attached to your post.

Anyone who wants some web space at YOURNAME.dcmembers.com just ask.  If you have a website please feel free to make a web page for your app and host it there, with only a screenshot, link, and description here.

Should i make a special subsection of this forum section where people can start a new thread for their program so that each will have its own thread?

great work app and tinjaw!!
Arjen, plaintextwiki looks really cool!
blaster and tpreal -- great to see you guys in this

arjen a suggestion (actually this suggestion might be useful for everyone):
grab a screencasting tool (camtasia old v3 -- free, wink -- free, bb flashback express -- cheap), and make a screencast showing how to use it.  I suggest it for plaintextwiki mainly just because its a cool idea that people might need to see in action to understand.

Some cool stuff!

Blaster cool your jets  8)

We're always just a little slow around here ending contests.  Actually contest is the wrong word since there aren't any winners.  But we'll post a summary of all the entries and then collect addresses to send the reward cups.

The special image for the challenge is not yet drawn.

your posts were confusing because after that one that kind of looked like spam you made one post with nothing in it except a blank minireview template form.  that wasn't spam but it wasn't a realy post either, then you made another post and it had some nonsensical stuff like void();javascript at the end of it.. something def seemed wrong.

Scott Hanselman writes a pretty nice and lighthearted blog on programming tools and related things.  He's recently been describing his new home networking setup, and it's a good read because he goes into some real detail about choices he made and issues he's solved..

I posted earlier about copying files across my new Gigabit home network. I was getting about 10 MB/s (that's MegaBytes) between two laptops and I got responses like these in the comments that shook my confidence. Here's my thoughts after each interesting comment that appeared in the previous post:  "You should be pushing at least 100 megabytes per second with gigabit ethernet."

i think i'm all but decided that we should have a fundraiser, but do it in January.
