How about the 7-zip command line version?
http://downloads.sou.../sevenzip/7za442.zip
Given the fact that i already need 7zip in the package, this is the option i'll opt for.
Thanks a lot patthecat!!

PS:I even unninstalled the trial version of winrar, to install 7zip :D

Not really. As you can see, dsCrypt accept both methods.
Unfortunatelly, apparently that only stands for the GUI version. The GUI version can create key files, to be used with both the GUI and the CLI version. But the CLI version, can only get key files as input :(

And here's the final version (still without the OnTop entry).

This one has all the icons, which were made by our member Hamradio! Thanks a lot ;)

Damn, those are cool!
But apparently, all of those require that the key is in an external file.. I wanted to pass the key as a command line argument :(
(i guess that isn't very safe, is it?)

The idea was to make an alias action for farr that would encrypt files, but now that i come to think about it, maybe it'd be a job more suited for a plugin than an alias.

Oh, now i see the idea. It saves any websearch you do, and has it available for other websearches. Makes sense :)

PS: i do know quicksilver, but haven't had a chance to really use it...

General Software Discussion / Encrypt single file?
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 18, 2007, 04:18 PM »
Hello there... Here i seek the immense knowledge of the people of DC :)

I'm looking for a program that is command line, small, and can encrypt files safelly.
There are inumerous options in google, but i'm looking for an already-tested/safe alternative.

Thanks!

for example if I type "pee" the first result being "Pop Peeper"
it shows : Pop Peeper
That is, if you had already searched with google for "Pop Peeper", right? ;)

few things that seems great :

the ability to select files to perform actions on them (zip) ...

Farr also does, it's only a matter of making an alias action to do that

to my knowledge you cannot select files in the explorer, invoke FARR and zip files
i agree that you can make an alias to zip files but FARR is not aware of selected files out of the box
Right.. I see your point. I also wonder how can they do that, detect what's selected when the program is launched. Does anyone have a clue?
Also, does that work in alternative file explorers?

But.. You can drag and drop a file on to farr, and then type the action followed by enter :)

Contextual history
I'm not sure what this means..
it seems that if you search Google using their google command, it will show your past searches (using that command)
i find this very useful
That can be useful for people who make url searches, i see.

That first part gave me an idea. Mouser: how about having another farr variable to be used in aliases: title/class of active window when farr was called. That'd be extremelly useful for window management alias such as this one.

  • image preview
yep, that's useful

  • image resizing
Also a matter of making an action, but trickier since there's no preview. (also, i don't find this very useful)

  • it just looks gorgeous
Indeed it does! I also agree that farr can lose some points in "beauty", when compared to other launchers. BUT, it alows you to see a bunch of entries at the same time, while others need some kind of keypress to show more results.

I'm not sure what this means..

Also, there's Image Resizer, a powertoy by ms which adds an entry to the context menu of images, and is aimed at doing exactly what you are asking for ;)
You can find it at http://www.microsoft...oys/xppowertoys.mspx

Guess what? A new alias pack!

This one uses AHK to do some window management.
Just type WindowManagement for the list of commands available.
Unfortunatelly, i suck at making icons, thus, if someone could make some, it'd be great ;)

Here's the main menu:
Screenshot-07_07_18,20_43_46.png

[edit] forgot the alias file! [/edit]

[edit] looks like there's a problem with the "OnTop" command. Not sure how to solve it, though :( [/edit]

[edit] due to the problems with the OnTop part, i removed that feature and kept the rest of the aliases. when farr can pass window class+window title of last focused window as a variable, this feature can come back ;) [/edit]

[edit] ok, now with 2 icons from the silk icon set [/edit]

There seems to be a way to do this through command line, by using nvidia's nview (only if you have a nvidia graphics board) check this thread.

« Last post by jgpaiva on July 17, 2007, 07:17 PM »
Here's my (slightly modified) version of the alias above.

ws-jgpaiva-cmd-alias-1.png

I added entries for shutdown/reboot/logoff/standby, made each of the entries become an isolated item (so that you don't have to type "cmd" at the beggining), added icons for the new ones, and now "cmd" works both as a list and as a practical example of how to use each of the alias.

Try it!

[edit] changed one little thing: the "lock pc" alias wasn't working, it had to be changed to "lockpc" [/edit]
[edit2] fixed error mentioned below about standby [/edit]
[edit3] "stole" image that lanux had below. Hope lanux won't get mad at me ;) [/edit3]

[edit4]Download removed. Please see this thread for more info [/edit4]

Here's the solution! (attached to the post, just download and place on your AliasGroups/MyCustom/).

It's activated with "cp".

[edit] I forgot the file  ;D ;D [/edit]

I can be a narrator!!!
Audio only, though... And i'm not that funny, we'd have to come up with some scripts for the parts.

BTW: I bet youtube would love such thing ;)

Can you put any program in there? Like, could I put... a Notepad, a Command Prompt, and a Directory Opus in there at the same time, if I wanted to?
Yep! At least, you can in the jedi one (which was the only one i tried)

Post New Requests Here / Re: idea: open folder context menu item
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 16, 2007, 02:13 PM »
I'm pretty sure there are programs that do this.
Still, it isn't that hard.

Take this ahk script:
splitpath,1,,OutDir

run,explorer %OutDir%
Save it anywhere and add an entry in the send to menu with a shortcut to it.

There's a way to add the context menu as you mentioned, but i can't add that entry for all the filetypes at once, you'd have to add an entry for each filetype (which makes no sense).
