UrlSnooper / Re: help me please
« Last post by mouser on February 09, 2008, 01:56 PM »
no, clear the keyword area so that it's blank.

what i mean is
the way url snooper works is you start it running and then you go off and browse the internet site or start retrieving your file from the internet and urlsnooper watches the web traffic and finds urls.

so you have to
Frist start urlsnooper running and sniffing
THEN go visit the website using your normal browser or media player and if nesc. start the file playing.

only then will url snooper find urls.

that suggested that the program is working fine and sniffing packets.
as a test, start it going and visit
http://www.c-span.org/

see if it finds some urls there.

also don't forget that its super easy to add files to alias groups.

so for example you could put photoshop, thegimp, painsthop pro, illustrator, all into an alias group called "art"
then just type "art" to get your list of programs in the art group to choose from, always in the order you expect.

you can put items in an alias group from the options alias tab, or just by right clicking on any found item and choosing "add to group alias".

another nice thing about doing that is that you can give any file in an alias group the exact label you want displayed for it.

FreeDownloadADay has been mentioned many times on the forum (for example https://www.donation...x.php?topic=8091.0); it also has the advantage of having a great banner image :)

better yet, let me give you some web space for your plugins, AND make .dcupdate files for them so people can grab updates automatically.

General Software Discussion / Re: Process Tamer.. The Drink
« Last post by mouser on February 08, 2008, 03:47 PM »
i don't really drink cocktails/mixed drinks.. i'd much rather go for a few pints of guinness at the pub.

but all tinkerers like to tinker, regardless of the materials.  experimenting with a cocktail shaker and miscelaneous ingredients is fun.

General Software Discussion / Process Tamer.. The Drink
« Last post by mouser on February 08, 2008, 01:15 PM »
I've decided that all of my software programs will now come with official cocktail recipes.

This week I give you "Process Tamer - The Drink"

If you use my Process Tamer program and you are an alcohol drinker then you are obliged to try making this drink:

Process Tamer - The Drink
1 shot vodka
1/2 shot lemon juice
1 tsp canned cranberry juice concentrate and
1 tsp any other flavor canned juice concentrate.
1 drop of bitters - optional.
Shake with ice.
Pour and add 2 shots of seltzer afterwards.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Is there a main page for plugin downloads?
« Last post by mouser on February 08, 2008, 10:58 AM »
Lashiec's explanation is almost right.

It's not that v2 is not available for the world, it's that there is a new set of FARR pages, with new screenshots, a link to the plugins, etc.  But the FARR v2 web pages aren't finished yet, and so they haven't been unveiled in half-finished state.

It's a powerful addon, but it mostly adds features to the autocomplete system, which ironically made life more complicated for me.  So i guess im still looking for another extension that does less, but is more suited to culling stuff i dont want from the normal autocomplete system.
24169
I'm looking for a firefox extension that will let me manage flexibly the url autocomplete list.

What i really want to do is to be able to maintain a list of urls which i want to always keep as autocomplete, and others which i want to remove when i restart firefox.

you can't remove the numbers from the small display mode as far as i can remember.. i could add that option but i use big slides mode and recommend it :)

as far as bumping score of photoshop let me point out one thing:

if you just launch photoshop ONCE through farr, it will go into FARR's list of recent history of launched programs.  after that it will:
  • get a much higher score during search
  • come up instantaneously on matching searches
  • show by default in results when farr is shown

so to summarize -- if you have an app that doesnt come right up to the top initially, dont automatically think you have to go tweaking scores -- just launch it once and FARR will thereafter give it more respect.

we already have a nice age poll going, which is probably better for people to participate on:

(ps. I think the search function on the site needs to let you restrict searching to only polls if you want)

I think i better put html display in FARR window up near the top of my todo list (which is getting pretty long -- as soon as i can i will schedule a few days of work on it but i just have to finish working on another real job first).
