Living Room / Re: Cooking my PC: what NOT to do
« Last post by mouser on February 17, 2008, 01:35 AM »
when the next generation of kids learns about the insanity of how we used to assemble computers they will not believe it.
few things are as insane.  i'm sure everyone who has put together a pc has their own horror stories.  my father once crushed a chip by tightening the fan too much.  i once blew out a motherboard by putting a jumper accidentally on a set of fan pins.  it is just crazy how prone to disaster it can be.

Find And Run Robot / FARR v2 plugin - Using free version of MS Visual Studio?

if you want to use C++ (not C#) then you do not need MFC, and can use the sample plugin skeleton i provide in C++.

that is very strange, i'll have to look into it.  from the symptoms you describe, it's capturing the multipage image fine but someone the pdf save is getting confused.  i suppose you already made sure that the problem isn't simply that the pdf VIEW mode isn't causing this (ie isnt scaling it just so it displays on one page).  if you try to print the pdf, you still get the effect you are talking about?

sorry i'm suffering from a cold or flu so i havent been online much this week.

right now you can either:
  • draw an arrow/line with simple text on the end.
  • make a text box with text in it (if you want to add a line/arrow you have to do that separately).

if i understand your question, you want to do the text box but have an attached line. i'd like to add that as well but it can't be done in the current version.

you may be able to configure spysweeper not to to resident scanning and not use the service.

i had this kind of thing before and it's infuriating.

first step would be exiting all normal programs and see if that eliminates it.

if you don't have luck finding it i would uninstall completely my antivirus, and then firewall
and see if that solves it.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Upload plugin - for developers
« Last post by mouser on February 15, 2008, 07:30 AM »
very cool.  and make sure not to pack that file when you zip :)

here's a simple plugin idea that i think would be really useful: FARR Command Sheller with Display (FCSD).
it's only job is to shell a commandline and capture the output and display it in FARR textmemo mode.

so you might create an alias like:
FCSD C:\Program Files\MyBatchFiles\myfile.bat

and it would run "C:\Program Files\MyBatchFiles\myfile.bat" and capture the output of that and display it in the memo display mode of FARR.

i think this could be quite useful.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Upload plugin - for developers
« Last post by mouser on February 15, 2008, 06:06 AM »
very interesting idea.

i wonder if it might be smart to developers write a special uploader config file for their plugins which tells the upload plugin where to work and some settings like ftp login and password info.

then you would ONLY display the plugin folders which have such a file (meaning they are the author of it), and you would get extra info you need from that file (ftp password, etc.).  just make sure not to bundle that file into the zip! (you should also not bundle the .cfi file, since that is users local options)

alternatively you could have the uploader config files not even be in the farr plugin directory, but let them be placed in users documents folder or someplace else and include info about the source directory.  the advantage of this is that the user could configure directories for uploading which arent even in the farr folder, and might be useful for other things.

there are TONS of potential uses for basic code you've just written to zip and upload.. i'm sure people will start making more requests for uploading type plugin.

I meant to post about this a while ago.  There are a number of such tools to make screensavers out of Adobe Flash movies, here's a nice new free one, created by two 18yr old authors.

InstantStorm is a Windows freeware tool for creating Flash based screensavers with many advanced features. All you have to do is to choose a SWF file, set screensaver parameters and compile an executable installer.

because it's happening on right click mostly it does sound like it might be an ill-behaving context menu extension.

you might try nirsoft's context menu extension manager and disable everything that looks in the slightest bit fishy:

Cool! I didn't know about the gallery section on your forum, very nice to see people sharing their work

That already does what i was suggesting, really, the only thing that would be nice is a way to view the fonts at a glance with a nice page of screenshots for each font.

Erwin,
maybe you could create a download section on your site where users could share their created fonts.

there are magnetic bumper stickers that are made by some companies, but they are expensive.
alternatively we might be able to stick the bumper sticker to magnet paper, and then magnet to bumper?

chris' point is good.. BUT im not sure we care all that much if people can really read it.. i think the main point here is not to spread the word but to have fun and maybe facilitate a fun moment if you meet someone who also knows DC, so hopefully they would recognize the picture even if they cant read the website.

Living Room / Would anyone want a free DonationCoder.com bumper sticker?
« Last post by mouser on February 13, 2008, 05:39 PM »
If there is any interest, i was thinking of ordering some bumper stickers (like 10" x 3") and sending them to anyone who would actually put them on their car.  Would be some fun free "advertising" for DC, and a fun way to see if you ever meet someone who is also a DC member.

I'm more than happy to send one to anyone who will actually put it on their car.

If I order a lot of them to myself at bulk rate, then there can only be one design with fixed text.  If we don't need so many (probably the case), i could order one at a time for about $5 and they can have custom text saying whatever each person wants.

Here's one sample with silly red text:
dcbumpersmall.png

What would be good alternative Red Text?
Please only people who would actually put one of these on their car make suggestions!!

Maybe member name?
Or how about "Honk If You Know Cody!"

ps. for those new to DC -- the cody drawing is done by Nick Pearson (Nudone), who created our mascot.

Find And Run Robot / Re: [bugs report] here is a list of outstanding bugs
« Last post by mouser on February 13, 2008, 02:10 PM »
there is actually a difference.
%clipboard% should ALWAYS be replaced with clipboard text (blank if clipboard text is blank).

$$c can be used to mean $$1 unless its blank, and clipboard text if it is blank.
for example from the help file:
  • So an alias might match on text gsearch(.*)
  • with result: gsearch $$c | http://www.google.com?query=$$c
  • When user types "gsearch hello" it will open a search to hello
  • When user types "gsearch" it will open a search to clipboard text

so $$c is used where you might normally put $$1

ps.
you can also manually tell farr to use your clipboard text in a search by typing $c

so if you have an alias like "define (.*)" which uses $$1 in its search, you could TYPE in the search box "define $c" and it will be as if you typed ("define CLIPBOARD_TEXT_HERE").

sri you should make a post in a separate thread about piclens with a screenshot, ive never heard of it before now.
