 ;D ;D ;D

ps. for the students of humour: i would have given you four laughing smilies if you had instead said "And, what, you're against that all of a sudden?"

Welcome to the site Sebastian -- looks like a terrific project

keep in mind that the virus definitions get updated regularly after people complain about these things, so what is falsely detected one day may be fixed and not alarm the next day.

ps. here is the programming library component TacOnlyOne, used by a lot of programs, which are now all going to be triggering this stupid brain dead alert:

http://www.appcontro...trols/taconlyone.htm
(i see now that Don surmised this was the source in his original post -- yes i can confirm this is what is being flagged)

Good work spybot for showing you guys are just blindly adding stuff without paying the slightest bit of attention to what you are doing.  Really inspires trust and confidence.

This has to be in the running for one of the STUPIDIST antivirus false alarms.

TacOnlyOne is the most absolutely trivial harmless thing.

it's a registry entry used so that a program knows it should only run
one copy of itself at a time, thus the name.

any program thats flags things like this as a virus signature is engaging in the mostly lazy, shoddy, stupid, ignorant, irresponsible behavior.

any security program that blindly tags registry keys like this that having nothing to do with anything should be avoided and shunned.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Purging of Favorites
« Last post by mouser on March 26, 2008, 02:01 AM »
Yes it's a tree on the left.. It's possible I created it for myself and thought it was built in -- if so, the important point is simply to make a group on the left that is not within the Old and New groups, and move your clip there.  You could even move the clips to the "My Favorites" group.

The only thing that's important is to move it OUT of the Old+New groups, as those are the only ones that get purged.  As soon as you move a clip out of those two groups it's no susceptible to the automatic cleaning rules.

Living Room / Flash Game of the Week: Sonny (RPG)
« Last post by mouser on March 25, 2008, 03:58 PM »
Here's a very polished Flash RPG game, featured on Jayisgames.com today.

Sonny is most likely the best Flash RPG yet made. Imagine fluid battles that don't feel like a grind, complete with fluid animation and tactics that are actually interesting and fun. Now, imagine that you're a superhuman zombie. Yes, Sonny, this is it.

Go read the review on jayisgames -- it's a nice description of what makes the game special.

in all seriousness, do you think if we added the "ignore thread" option to the forum, so people could mark threads as those that shouldnt show up in "unread topics" list, it might help this situation?

when it's one post longer than your own personal interest in it.  ;)

Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR development in hibernation
« Last post by mouser on March 25, 2008, 02:33 PM »
I've been working on a paid work project for the last few months.. It's finally coming to a head, and i'm going to have some real time to work on DC apps starting in mid april.  i've been chomping at the bit to release some updates and i have a big stack of cards to remind me all the things i need to implement.  so hibernation is the right word, and in a few more weeks i will be able to come out of hibernation :)

what are you talking about?

Mouser: how about a command line switch to solve this problem?

that's a good compromise since i wouldnt have to add yet another option in options dialog.
ok adding it to todo list.

Newsletter for March 25th, 2008
Codename "Attack of the Antivirus"

"If you read nothing else on our site, read our BLOG"
(new rss feed with images)

1. Newsletter Editorial

March was a busy and stressful month for DonationCoder.  On March 2nd the site was hacked by someone who actually tried to put a link to a virus up on our homepage.  The intrusion was detected within 2 hours but we decided that we would take the opportunity to rebuild a new server from scratch with tighter security.  The move took us almost a week to do, but everything is back and working smoothly now.

Ironically, soon after the server came back up, McAfee antivirus decided this would be a good time to give a *false* positive alert on some of our programs.  Even though McAfee confirmed right away that it was a false alarm and that none of our programs contained a virus, it was an unpleasant coincidence.  You can read more about these events in the threads below.  In March we also learned the importance of a supportive community -- everyone was incredibly nice and encouraging during the troubles (see the first thread in section 3).

2. March 2008 Discounts and Giveaway

This month's giveaway and discount is only open for a tiny window of time, so you'll have to act fast.  While the DonationCoder.com website was offline for a week in March, many of us stayed in touch using the IRC chat network. So we thought it would be appropriate to bring members a discount on one of the best irc clients around: mIRC.

3. Your Input Requested

A warm welcome to all the members who have joined over the last six weeks. If you're a new member, or have never posted before, here are some great places to make your Donationcoder debut!

4. Software (and other) Releases by DonationCoder.com Members

Some fun new releases by members on our site in the recent weeks:

5. Mini-Reviews by Members

Mini-reviews are a great resource for people researching software solutions and may be found on a dedicated Mini-Review Board.  Please remember to acknowledge the efforts of the reviewers with a few donationcredits if you find their reviews interesting and/or helpful.

6. Living Room

The Living Room section of the forum is where we discuss general issues that don't belong anywhere else. It's always hard to select ten or so posts to highlight here because it, along with the General Software Discussion board, is very active. Here is a small sampling of the discussions that have been started since the last newsletter.

7. Fun and Leisure

Everyone needs a break from work now and then.

8. General Software Discussion

Once again the General Software Discussion board has seen an enormous amount of activity over the past six weeks. As noted above (see the Living Room section of the newsletter), these are just a few highlights of the new threads from the past few weeks.

9. Specific Software Discussions

Postings made to the General Software Discussion board often relate to specific applications. Here are some highlights.

10. Developer's Corner

The Developer's Corner section of the forum is not just for developers -- it's also where we talk about entrepreneurial issues.

11. Member Site Spotlight

Nick Pearson, the artist who created DonationCoder's beloved mascot, "Cody", has created a new website documenting a mysterious book he found..

Find And Run Robot / Re: Questions about aliases
« Last post by mouser on March 25, 2008, 03:42 AM »
You can drag+drop items from the results window to a folder which should result in them being copied.
Or if you just want the path you can right-click on a result and choose to "Copy Path".
But there is no way to copy "All" currently.  I suppose i could add that if it was really needed.

I'm not following request #1.

As for #2, assuming you do in fact want to use +alias to specifically ONLY match alias items, and that you already know that you don't have to normally use +alias if you just want to type an alias, then the answer is yes you could make your own shorthand.  You would create a new alias, and make it trigger for example on the regular expression:
al (.*)
and then for your result put:
dosearch +alias $$1

This will let you type "al BLAH" and only aliases matching BLAH will be shown, as if you had typed "+alias BLAH"
23819
seems like a reasonable idea since search is so important.  I'll put it on the todo list.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Directory Search Order
« Last post by mouser on March 25, 2008, 03:34 AM »
Search order is determined by the order listed in the "Search Folders" tab -- you can drag and drop to re-order them.
You specify the points to bias items found in each folder in that tab as well.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Purging of Favorites
« Last post by mouser on March 25, 2008, 03:29 AM »
It's supposed to act already as you say -- i.e. never purge favorites.  I'll have to look into why it's not.
A workaround you might try for now: In addition to checking the box marked "Is Favorite", drag+drop the clip into the "Data to Keep On File" group.

General Software Discussion / Re: Animated Drawing
« Last post by mouser on March 24, 2008, 09:13 PM »
that's actually a really good question.
before people say it's impossible, there are plenty of photoshop plugins and other graphics painting tools that take a photo and turn it into paint stroke effect, so there's no reason this couldn't be done (though it surely would not look as nice as a real recording of someone doing the painting).

Find And Run Robot / Re: Alias sharing
« Last post by mouser on March 24, 2008, 08:59 PM »
(Mouser, is the Helper folder intended for extra programs like this? Or is some other location better?)

with the new use of alias files, the best thing would probably be to make a subdirectory with your alias file, a custom icon, and the regjump.exe.  that way it's a totally self-contained thing.  then a user can just unzip it into the Installed alias directory and they are all set.

See here for an example: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=9365.0

I've actually done a fair amount of coding using mIRC's scripting language, and you'll find some addons i've written for mirc below - mouser.
