right ok.. so i'd say your problems are just an extreme case of the bad startup-with-windows bug that seems to happen to some people who use a few of my programs.  for some reason when they start with windows they don't minimize to the tray properly and the window is unresponsive, at least until the program is restarted or until the main window is close and re-opened.  i am going to be releasing a few updates at the end of this month and in early may and i will try to get this fixed by then.

you can do this.

go into your search directories list, add your custom directory (C:\-- photo), and specify a special modifier like: photodir

now in your dosearch (or regular search), dont specify "C:\-- photo" but instead specify: +photodir
that tells farr to search the entire c:\-- photo tree for matching files

Are you using version 2 of FARR?
FARR version 2 is not supposed to be trying to follow shortcuts for network links, which as you say cause this slowdown -- but it may be that you've found something that may be confusing FARR -- that the shortcut may look to FARR like its on a local drive while really being a network drive.  If you are using version 2, can I ask you to email me so we can stay in touch for testing when i try to fix this? The default region capture locks to the current window your cursor is on when you trigger it, so solution one is to first move to the screen you want to region capture on, and then trigger.

Second solution is to switch to "Red Box" capture mode for region capturing -- you can do that from options -- see if you like it better.

The killer feature of Clone Tools is that it works with folders containing duplicate files rather then the duplicate files themself. The folders are then compared and deduped in a side by side browser that basically works pretty much the same as similar browsers seen in synchronization programs.

That's actually very clever and I can see how that would be useful.

One possibility is that you have an option set which *requires* the image to be saved each time.  For example if you have an option set to copy each screenshot's file name to the clipboard after a screencapture, that would do it.

There is no limit and we don't ever intend on deleting anything.
(I have about 7000 messages and none have been deleted).

unless you turn off notifications, you should also receive an email with a copy of any message you receive -- so that's another way to keep a backup of all your incoming messages.

Process Tamer is very happy to let you set specific priorities for specific applications -- just go to the process list and set an Explicit Rule for the program to "Force Above Normal" or whatever, and it will be remembered forever after.

0 = search no subdirectories
1 = search 1 level deep
2 = search 2 levels deep

just use a hotkey to take screenshots, and make sure in options you dont have it set to stay minimized on capture.

if they never re-enter this state, and it ONLY happens when first started at boot time, then the problem is much less of a mystery, and seems to befall some users on startup, and there is a hope for a solution.

If you exit the programs, and then restart them, they work, is tht right?  and then does the problem ever re-emerge on its own, or only after you reboot?
