What kind of actions are you talking about?

Once again I was tricked.
I have two older Executive licenses which I had for free and they worked just fine with 2012?
(...) Did you download latest & tested your key?

This is bizarre! You were absolutely right, Bionic. My key is working fine with 2012, even though it is from December 2010, and as such should be too old. So they were trying to double-trick me? My thoughts about these people, are not suitable for print.

wow, memory lane! I was a heavy user of PageMaker in the mid-nineties (until they were acquired by Adobe), almost 20 years ago. I thought it was magic ♥

However, today I am retired and have Serif PagePlus X6, so Thanks, but No, thank you.

I have two older Executive licenses

-just how old? The normal license is for a year, and since 2011 they have started to offer "lifetime" keys valid for six years.

FWIW: I have not had WhiteSmoke installed for several years. I just want to keep my installation file updated in case I decide to test the program again.

Today I was offered to upgrade to version 2011. When following the link, I was made a new and even better offer: The entire package ("Executive") for $139, normal price $299. However, that is usually for a "year-model" version; this offer was for a lifetime key! (...), and now I have a lifetime license for the entire enchilada, for $100!!! I am so happy, never again will I have to pay for these microscopic improvements they add, in order to make you purchase an upgrade, (...)

Executive Writing Version 2011 (Life Time!)  (...)

Once again I was tricked. They meant it literally, "Executive Writing Version 2011 (Life Time!)" = version 2011 for life. No "2012", no upgrades.

A little warning:
the right to update (upgrade, they call it) is per year, not per version's number.
I have 3.3, but must pay for 3.4 (if I would, which I won't).

Well, now I have version 3.4 never the less. I received an email a few minutes ago, offering the upgrade for $20 today only. Unfortunately the offer is for registered users only. I took the offer because I really like this program, despite their harsh upgrade policy, ("per year, not per version's number"). Who knows, I might even get version 3.5 for free...

-of course you would. Sorry!  :-[

Video thumbnail pictures are "hidden", so when you backup to SkyDrive, you must also backup hidden files, if possible, or first 'un-hide' them.

General Software Discussion / Lifetime license from WhiteSmoke: no good
« Last post by Curt on May 10, 2012, 12:06 PM »
WhiteSmoke has just given me the same answer as Audials did:
"oh yes, you have lifetime key, but it was for version 2011 only, not for any upgraded version!"

to compensate or something, they have just mailed me again and are now offering me
a >>lifetime key for 6 years<<!!,
upgrades included.

What is happening to words and their meaning?

General Software Discussion / Re: tabbed Better Explorer for W7
« Last post by Curt on May 10, 2012, 01:51 AM »
This is embarrassing; I have trusted and quoted an ignorant (The Windows Club), instead of testing to see if he was right! Better Explorer (BEx) is reported to work just fine on 64 bit! But is expected to work even faster when certain updates have been performed:

I just found this software in latest issue of PC World and right away went and got it, installed it about 5 minutes ago and (...). A site said 64 bit is slow but not noticing anything yet that is of concern - thank you so much for so much in a great software!

I think why the site said something about 64-bit being slow is because Dimitar isn't able to test it on a 64-bit system. I personally have a 64-bit system, and I agree, it's notably fast. But in my opinion, there's still a way to go. Just wait for my update by the end of the month.

I remember reading that 64 bit support would take the double number of DLLs. Better Explorer does work on 64 bit versions, but slower. And if it doesn't work, they have a reg file to make it do so. But in general I know nothing about Better Explorer because I stopped caring when I upgraded to 64 bit W7.

For almost two years they have been repeatedly updating a replacement for Explorer: Better Explorer, now at version 2.0.0.861 Alpha. One special "feature" is, that if you are one of those people that have W7 and already have decided that you will not upgrade to W8, then this tabbed file manager just may be what you would like it to be, because so far it is for 32-bit Windows 7 only.
Edited: The "32 bit only" was a false rumor - sorry! Better Explorer works just fine on 64 bit as well.

Freeware, open source.

Good job you had the Extension List Dumper report!

Thank you for reminding me of Shift+Click. I really had forgotten!

can I simply delete C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\13kfheeu.default\extensions\{9669CC8F-B388-42FE-86F4-CB5E7F5A8BDC}.xpi , or will that just cause more troubles?

Edited:
Yes, I could merely delete it. My Waterfox is doing okay now, without Mr Tech.
2319
oh, this is awful bad! I am so sorry!  :-[

It gets even worse: Do not try to let Mr Tech handle the addon manager by itself, or you will completely lose access to the addons!!! I just did that, and because I cannot find any way to access my addons, I am also unable to disable Mr Tech!!

Please post the proper solution to this nightmare!

@Curt: Yes, thanks. That was the version I had/have.

-no, IainB, your Extension List Dumper reports version 6.0.4, but mine is 6.0.4.9000. But of course my Waterfox is merely version 12, not 13. Furthermore I don't remember if my Mr Tech came from the homepage or where-ever.

Here it is:  - not the same as the homepage version.
EDITED: File removed due to serious bug!

-yes, I saw the Linux version was updated four days ago. Good for you.

Both the Waterfox homepage and the Waterfox Beta-channel update are crap!
I am now running Waterfox 12. Thanks for the hint, Tuxman

-I already have Nitro 7 Pro, but have reached the level where I no longer am satisfied. It is a very fine editor and converter, but the virtual printer (print homepage article to pdf) is not impressive. Of course the sinner could be Firefox, I don't know for sure.
