web apps kinda made desktop apps redundant in all but a few use cases IMHO.

Unless you prefer efficient code.

There's also paradigms that you can't do in a web app.  Web apps are definitely a good tool to have in the toolbox.  But just like everything else, it's situational.

I'd say quit trying to figure it out, and contact them.

That's on tomorrow's to-do list. But it's compounded by the fact I'll be calling on behalf of the client, and will possible need to engineer my way past GD support identity verification ... Assuming they have any.

So I was hoping there was an alternate (configuration based) option that I could get at more easily ... Since I have CP access to the account.

Normally I'm quite good at the SE type stuff, but lately the office environment has turned into a constantly toxic epic shit-storm. So I - like most of the staff - spend most of my days stressed to the max because the owner has turned into the vitriolic red queen from Alice in Wonderland prowling the office looking for something/anything to scream at or about. *Shrug* It's really just too fucking hard to think straight in that type of atmosphere. But I'd like to get this client's project done before I completely shutdown and start focusing on looking for another job.

(Assuming you've seen the commercial) PW: Ihatemyjob1  :D

Sounds pretty bad.  Sorry I couldn't be more help; when I had a similar problem, one time it was the firewall on the server, so they had to correct it, and the other time it was the firewall in the company.  Have you checked that?

What strikes me about DC is that I go to other SMF forums, and it's night and day as far as the features.
Can you elaborate? I can't tell if you're saying that DC is better or worse  :P

I'm saying DC is better.    There are so many customizations that I take for granted - the ability to highlight and quote.  The hyperlink popping up a dialog instead of just putting the tags in.  Same for images.  Non-image attachments.  And those are just the beginning.  You tend to take for granted all of of the custom code that's been put in the platform.

You just did what you need for substring match.

"exact (sub)string match."

Put it in quotes.  There is an example next to the search box, i.e.
Orwell "Animal Farm" -movie

Add to that match all, and it would match all of Orwell, the phrase "Animal Farm" but remove movie.  Add that to match any, then if a search term had any of those terms, it would return.  Though truthfully, not sure what -movie would do in that case.

Hope that helps.

My first thought jokingly of course...is that it takes them longer to enter spaces verses tabs and if they get paid by the hour...then more time was spent with spaces... :P

You can set tabs to expand to a certain amount of spaces in most IDEs :P

In the future, when searching, there is a string match on the Advanced search page, and the instructions are iterated there.  As Tomos said, you searched for something that isn't there.

To me, the forum should be based around the content, instead of the features, necessarily.  What strikes me about DC is that I go to other SMF forums, and it's night and day as far as the features.  I also use Discourse, and infinite scroll has become a bane.  I truly don't think that forum software of choice drives people away.  If anything, it is the need for a redesign of the site - it does look a bit dated.  But I don't think that anyone goes "I'm not going to sign up for that site because it uses SMF"

I highly recommend the Sniper Elite series, which is now on sale. DC member Skwire and I have played the last few years of it cooperatively and it has been a hoot.

Man...we've had some times, eh?  LOL.  "Let's go to war..."

Dishonored 2 for $20 is a damn steal, too.  Get that without hesitation.

The reason I have hesitation on such deals is that I've been burned before by getting the game at a very good deal, but then wanting the DLC (which I do in this case), that DLC not being discounted (which it's not in this case), then the publisher later releasing the Game of the Year version that is less expensive than what I paid in total.  Notice that the season pass is not discounted.  I have enough games to play that I can afford to wait.  Same thing with fallout 4, though admittedly they discounted the season pass too- if you consider that a deal.  Ironically, Fallout 3 was the first one that made me say no more when I did purchase it, and purchased all of the DLC, and found out my purchase was more costly.  Especially towards the end of the life, when they release the DLC non-discounted, but discount the main game.  They've started recently to have the complete your collection offers, which has made me a bit more favorably inclined towards them.

Add to that the fact that it has Denuvo, and I'm passing for now.

But anyway, I've been using Steam less and less over the past few years, mostly because of the glut of crap that has gotten on the storefront through Greenlight (which has recently been discontinued), and also because I've begun to appreciate the value in DRM-free games more and more (hooray for GOG!). That said, it might be fun if people use this thread as an opportunity to recommend good games to each other that are worth picking up during the sale.

Doesn't look like so much a discontinuing as a change to vet the offerings better with Steam Direct.

It is a apparent that this is one of those things, like religion and politics, that people adhere to and have their own opinions on (which is the reason that I've backed off at some of the vehemence), and I don't doubt that this is one of those click-baity titles, and with more indepth good scientific and statistics and better data, wouldn't hold up to the light of investigation and there'd be little to no correlation nor causation.

On that note, I'd recommend an old book to allow one to see the lies we are fed daily under the cover of statistical analysis- I know it has made me look at such things in a different light.

You might try The Journal.  It has alarms, so I'm sure you could set it up that way, though I haven't really tried it for that.  I use IFTTT and Pushover to remind me, rather than depending on software on one computer.

Usually, the best thing for this even before searching is to update to the latest version, which would have solved your issue with no problems.

DC Gamer Club / Re: Humble: free key for "Killing Floor" for next day or so
« Last post by wraith808 on June 22, 2017, 02:06 PM »
It's a pretty popular game on Steam; I used to play it, but haven't recently.  It is a pretty good game.  The one caveat is that this is Killing Floor 1, and there is a Killing Floor 2 that many (most?) people have moved on to.  That's on sale also for half off (14.99).

Update: It's a steam key, and must be redeemed by 7/1.  I already have it on steam, so if someone wants the key (an established DCer is the only requirement), just let me know.

As Deozaan says, it also means that you (you special snowflake!) is trying to dictate how wide my indents are supposed to be, instead of letting that be up to my editor settings. Editor settings that probably vary depending on whether I'm on a machine with big monitors, or editing in Vim through SSH.

Not really.  If that's what the team decides on, then that's what the team does as a rule.  And when others come into the team, they adhere to the standard.  Right?

I have 192 GB on mine currently.

How big is it?

It's a Samsung S8.  Why does that matter?

100GB is online backup, which makes the title misleading I find (I know: technically... still misleading).
Any chance you could correct your post? Thanks

I think everyone here knows that there is no way you could get 132 MB of storage in a phone(especially not one of that price). So I didn't worry about the issue when posting it. Besides, they would find out soon enough anyway if they checked it out.

The reason I use spaces is for exactly this reason.  Consistency in code, as you can set the tab to be anything, and get unusual alignment when using tabs.

I'm not sure I follow you. How does using spaces give more choice to each individual? And how does it provide any more consistency in code than tabs do?

I'm saying that tabs can be set to anything, and interpreted differently in each editor.  Spaces give more consistency, and there is no interpretation involved.  And when I say VCS, I mean a Version Control System.

Some VCS' don't do so well with tabs in my experience.
2297
Consistency with indentation, no matter in which IDE/editor you open your code in, is really helpful, especially in multi-programmer projects. A tab can be set to whatever default, depending on user preference and software to edit code with. And it is easy to add an accidental tab that won't show up in one piece of software and disrupts indentation in another.

Spaces do not cause such problems in any editor/IDE in whatever (regional) language. And using spaces hardly takes up that much extra storage on disk. My anecdotal experience is that using spaces works better/consistently within whatever versioning system I have tried over time. But that can be just me.

Nope, I totally agree.  And you bring up a good point - VCS.  With spaces, they are stored consistently.  Some VCS' don't do so well with tabs in my experience. But that might be better now.
2298
I was taught to use spaces, and had done so for years. But then a couple of years ago I actually thought about it instead of just dogmatically accepting what I was taught and I came to the conclusion that tabs are better because they give more choice to each individual.

The reason I use spaces is for exactly this reason.  Consistency in code, as you can set the tab to be anything, and get unusual alignment when using tabs.
