General Software Discussion / Re: Help with search syntax on Win7 ...
« Last post by Curt on June 20, 2012, 11:36 AM »
You didn't tell a) if there is anything else that you must move together with the video "..timelapse.mp4" file. Nor did you tell b) if the new folder name must be same as the old.

If a=nothing, and b=unimportant, then just type timelapse in the search box, mark all the search results, and right-click one, and click send to FileNanny. It will not move the folders, but the files. But a new folder will be created.

If you need is more advanced, I cannot help you.

N.A.N.Y. 2011 / Re: NANY 2011 Release: Duplicate Photo Finder
« Last post by Curt on June 18, 2012, 10:06 AM »
In case you don't already know, it looks like there's a similar program with the same name - Duplicate Photo Finder.  It looks to be US$49.90 at full price, but they make the price very hard to find (bottom of the Upgrade page).

-right now it is merely $10: http://www.duplicate...r.com/uninstall.html for 1 year's free upgrade (if any!), and $20 for 2 years. I tested it, and did not purchase a key! because the included "similarity finder" is too imaginative...

PhotoUpz is on Bits du Jour again, and again for merely $8.
I think this program is the best of the kind.

Why did Mozilla even give this feature a hotkey? Quick Find will be working once the user starts typing (anywhere outside a writer's area), so it doesn't need any hotkey at all!

I like the Quick Find feature. I hate the Shift+something hotkey. In the settings I can only disable the feature, not just the hotkey.
2257
ehh... I should of course had said something like "Shift+whatever".

General Software Discussion / Can Firefox Quick Find "shift"-hotkey be removed?
« Last post by Curt on June 15, 2012, 10:28 AM »
I am getting really tired with Firefox's Quick Find being activated whenever I use the Shift button. Why did Mozilla even give this feature a hotkey? Quick Find will be working once the user starts typing (anywhere outside a writer's area), so it doesn't need any hotkey at all!

Please tell me how to remove this hotkey from Firefox/Waterfox Quick Find, if possible.
 :tellme:

Edit
: Due to confusing I must clarify that I mean, "Shift+whatever".

I just came by to say that DragLock is a fine application! I have used it almost every day, with the Windows' key. But that was on XP and on Vista, both 32-bits... I am exited to see how it will do on my coming 64-bits W7.

-and the answer is that it does just as well as on Vista and XP.
I have placed it in ...\Program Files (x86)\...

But of course it still doesn't paint.

Neatmouse has a config pane so you can assign any keys to the mouse function.
Thanks again, Carol. Neatmouse is really... ehh, well, neat! And NEW! Their forum's admin has made merely four posts! I have already made a feature request, of course, asking for the special laptop button "Fn" to be added as a "alt. modifier".
-DonationCoder's forum
Thank you for writing Neat Mouse,
FEATURE REQUEST:
I would very much like you to add the Laptop's [Fn] button to the Alt. modifier buttons, please
-Curt
We made some investigations and it seems that, unfortunately, the processing of Fn key on software level is impossible.
We'll certainly implement this feature and let you know if situation changes
-NeatMouse's forum's Admin
-Neat Decisions' forum

My setup has made my mouse pointer unstable; if left alone it will go walkabout..., so now I am going to test NeatMouse again even though I no longer am on a laptop. A new version was released just a week ago:

The Denmark v. Portugal game on 6/14 was great with some really nice goals.

-yeah, but I didn't enjoy the outcome! :-(  (Denmark: 2 - Portugal: 3)

And on top of losing such an important match, we still have no summer in Denmark. Apparently this is a 404 error:

Speaking of .NET Framework: I have an "old" program requiring .NET version 1.1, but when I look at .NET 1.1 SP1's homepage, Win 7 is not listed as supported (support ended with Vista). So, what do I do, to run an old program requiring just .NET 1.1 on my W7: install it (.NET 1.1 SP1) anyway and hope for the best?
 :tellme:

edit:

...  I've got someone ... asking me what version of .NET a program is using.

You are on DC, and "we" have many programs laying around. If you could tell what program and version, you might get surprised...

I like your hair better this 'way':

2268
I don't know the answer to your question, but it is my experience that if a software author "Prerequisites" .NET version 1.1 for his program, it will not settle with .NET version 2 or 3 or 4...
So you might easily need all of them, if you have old programs installed.

General Software Discussion / psr.exe = Problem Steps Recorder (for Win 7)
« Last post by Curt on June 06, 2012, 07:51 AM »
gizmo has an important information for users of a Win 7 with problems:

C:\Windows\System32\psr.exe

How to Use a Little-Known Tool for Getting Help with Windows 7 Problems

Updated 31. May 2012 - 21:00 by v.laurie

Anybody who has been faced with a misbehaving computer and wanted to describe the problem to someone who was located elsewhere knows this isn’t always easy. Windows is complicated and words can be inadequate. The old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words is apt and Windows 7 has a little-known tool to make pictures of your system in action.

The tool is called Problem Steps Recorder (PSR). This tool lets you capture screenshots of the steps that lead to a problem so that someone can review your actions and possibly suggest a solution.

General Software Discussion / Online Font Converter
« Last post by Curt on May 31, 2012, 04:50 PM »
I didn't even know you can convert a font, so I was surprised by today's offer from fontlab. But you can, and now even online and cheap: $10 for all the fonts you can manage to convert in 24 hours!

TransType Online Font Converter: http://www.fontlab.com/use-online/

The current version works only on Windows, but we're working on a Mac version. Hopefully by next year.
http://www.fontlab.c...roozz/transtype-pro/ :
2012-05-31_234215.gif

Font Conversion for a Fraction of the Price!

Save 94% on TransType Pro.

You read that right: Massive savings on the world's best (only?) universal font conversion software.

How can we do this? Simple - we put it online.

Fontlab has partnered with Roozz.com Aps to make the Windows version of TransType Pro available through your browser. This means that instead of buying and installing TRPro on your computer you can just rent it for a day at the measly price of US$9.99 - only 5½% of the usual price!

You need to bookmark this website now!

  •    Do you have a one-off project that requires Type 1 fonts on a Windows computer - but they're on your Mac?
  •    Your old font library needs to be moved to a new computer - which doesn't know how to use some of those ancient fonts. You'd like to "upgrade" them.
  •    Task X is due tomorrow and it just needs a couple OpenType fonts. But you have them only in Type 1 format. And you don't have time to run a purchase order up and down the chain of command.
  •    You've found the perfect font for your layout - but it's a TTF and the customer has specified that all fonts must use Postscript outlines.

These are just a few of the typical problems for which TransType/Roozz is the perfect solution. You can be up and running - perhaps even finished - in just a couple minutes at an eminently reasonable cost.
Of course if converting fonts is a daily, weekly, or even monthly part of your workflow then you'd be better off with the desktop version of TransType Pro. But if font conversion is an occasional task then TransType/Roozz is an efficient and cost-effective remedy.
