I added a blog to SwiffOut. It'll make easier for you RSS users to know when a new version of SwiffOut gets out and if it benefits you to upgrade :
http://grownsoftware.com/blog/
You can also follow how the project advance. So far I've made 5 sells, I have more details on the SwiffOut blog.

On the dev side, the latest version support final-ninja without glitch. It remind me of atari and amiga time.

I created a button, but I have a hard time finding a good label that makes people click on it to know more. It'll probably become SwiffOut home page title and eventually ads too. I feel that the current title says a little bit too few.

Developer's Corner / Re: Resources for learning git?
« Last post by ecaradec on May 10, 2010, 07:15 AM »
The article that makes git click for me was http://www.newartisa...m-the-bottom-up.html . It doesn't makes me understand everything, but what I read afterwise got more sense. Learning a tool from the bottom is a strange way of learning but it works really well. I think it that way : Git archive is a graph of node where you move your HEAD cursor. The rest is knowing the commands to move around the graph, clone part of it, etc... It took some time to learn the commands since they are a bit awkwards.
I use cygwin, not the msys port. The msys port was a bit incomplete at the time I learned it. It should be better now though.

Currently the selection of the flash is done by taking the one with the largest surface. It works well on many sites, of couse it isn't a perfect solution. Selecting the flash would be better, but I'll have to do it once for each extension, so this is a quite a bit of work. I try to be smart by creating values, without creating too much work if possible.

I tried the lego thing and it does work. IE extension is a bit less efficient. I have to fix that. Did you use IE ?

$3 seems like a very good deal, even for something that doesn't always work. Actually I got 3 extra buyers, when I announce it. I'll ask them if they would have bought it for $5. I live in Euro area, so I don't really feel how much $5 is. For the beginning, I'd rather have more customers so that SwiffOut spreads versus earning money. I still need to charge I because I wouldn't like a free app that goes pay.

About ads, I agree what mouser has said. I don't think you click ads while playing. You click before and after. Beyond that, I would probably be rich before it represent a significant loss to gaming websites ;). This is annoying though because the perfect place to put ads for this would be gaming websites, but I'm not sure they'll like it.
229
I really respect what you think mouser.

But I may go up the price as I add functionnalities. I'll add something telling that this is a launching price and that the value is greater, so that people will know it is better to pay now and it will make easier to increase the price latter.

@Lanux : if you buy a licence you should receive it by email. It's automatic, there is no preorder, it's live.

I won't be there this we, but I'll read everything when I'll come back.
230
Thank you TPReal this is the kind of advice I needed. The new price is $3.
231
Thanks for the little bug in the dialog.

I found a more annoying bug for IE user. The IE addon seem to be less performant about finding games in the page than IE and Chrome. If games doesn't launch with IE you can try to launch it with another browser until I find why...
232
About piracy, I was thinking of preventing it by being a nice guy and encouraging people to not crack it  :-*

In firefox you should see a button appear near the address bar. Sometimes it may fail if you moved buttons to others bar that the toolbar. Check if you can find it by right clicking and go to personnalize. It should appear in the list of all buttons to add.
234
Actually I have a test mode parameter that switch to playing in a window. But right now it is a window without border, so you won't be able to move it. But it's really doable.

i hope that option makes it to the final build. btw, how to invoke Swiffout in Firefox? i can't find the button anywhere, though it works in IE.

I think that I will make progressive improvements. I'll add a blog to keep everyone informed of new versions.

Or I could offer both price ($9.90) and ($10 for the marketingly offended)  :P

You made me realize that I should write $9.9 instead of 9.9$ on the website. If you find some english mistakes on the site. Do not hesitate to tell me, I'm not a native speaker.
237
I'm not sure that decreasing the price over the time is good or bad. Lowering the price afterward seems more harmful to me, since people who paid before might be upset that they could have pay less by waiting ? I'd rather favor first customers ;)
238
You may be right f0dder. I'm not sure how to confirm that. Would you like 10$ better than 9$ too ?
239
The setup contains browser extensions for IE, Firefox and Chrome, but the browser extension just scan for the flash then transmit it to swiffout to display it fullscreen. It is a browser extension and an external application.
241
Thanks mouser, I feel great to have your approbation about that.
242
I rewrote most of the post since the project evolved :

SwiffOut my new pet project allows to play flash games fullscreen. It is better than others extensions because it adapt the resolution of the screen for a resolution that suit the flash best - this help keeping more cpu. It hide and stop all ads and avoid menus to popup when playing. It also works with ie, firefox and chrome. The aim is make browser game really look desktop game.

SwiffOut is free now : you can get it as http://swiffout.com

SwiffOut is a commercial project (sort of because I'm mostly loosing money right now ;). Two reasons there : I wanted to try payment systems, and use tools that I don't usually use like google analytics, servers configuration, webtools, draw graphisms. I will also build more support, faq, blog... After many price variations the price is now $5.

SwiffOut now has a free edition and an extended edition :
  • The free edition is usable on SwiffOut sister website http://swiffoutgames.com (which I'm very proud of too, because it is very nice I think ) where you can play flash games fullscreen for free (swiffout is unlimited on this website, it will not display dialogs or anything ). SwiffOut Games is also a very special website because it is optimized to work with SwiffOut to make things a little bit easier.
  • The extended edition is $5 and allows you to play full screen on any website, so this open a LOT more games

I would definitly offer a free licence, if you have a blog and are willing to do a review (good or bad - bad reviews can be useful too ). I'll give you one extra licence for your readers too. You can write me a little blub with your blog name right now if you feel like it.

I you wan't to stay connected with what I do, and how the project evolve, SwiffOut has a blog that you can check for new versions and get some details about how the experiment goes here : http://grownsoftware.com/blog/

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR plugin: FARR Windows Search 0.1.0
« Last post by ecaradec on May 05, 2010, 01:42 AM »
@phitsc If this is a visual studio project : Sometimes includes can add libraries. You may try to add propsys.lib to "ignore default libraries" in project properties under configuration properties/linker/input/ignore specific library to force visual to not include it. If it can't link you'll know the name of the function and probably why it is included...

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR plugin: FARR Windows Search 0.1.0
« Last post by ecaradec on May 04, 2010, 01:53 AM »
I tried to reproduce it but got the propsys.dll error on Windows XP Pro SP3. The dependency come from FARRWindowsSearch. I tried to add the propsys.dll into the plugin folder but it crash. It isn't very surprising since it is a vista dll. Did you link to propsys ? Or compile for vista which may have add dependencies to vista dll ?

Ok, I'll try to reproduce it.

I'll be happy to have a look if there is a way to reproduce the problem. Is there a series of plugins that cause the issue ?

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Question about FScript (1.19)
« Last post by ecaradec on December 26, 2009, 09:57 AM »
I've put some documentation on how to build FARR plugins with FScript on the FARR plugin developer wiki at : http://farr.dcisv.co...script_documentation. The easiest way to start is by taking a plugin and modifying it to your need. It's easier to start in javascript or vbscript because other script language require custom setup on your desktop.
248
Yep, debugging in python or ruby suck. the activescript binding of python and ruby is limited to running script but not debugging them, and the debugging support is required to get correct error lines, etc... May be there is somewhere a debuggable active script implementation of python ?
Once you have a good understanding on what FARR pass as parameters and order of methods call, you can try running plugins standalone and integrate them as FARR plugin at the end. Not the solution I'd like but it helps.

The VIA Artigo a1000 is really a great idea. No need to switch desktop, screen or anything. Excellent :-*

I'd really like to have an invite, if someone has one to give. I'm very curious at it. I filled the form but the chosen are a few.
