from my experience, more than 4gb is a great waste of money untill you have a serious planned use for this on some giant mathematical computation.

but to answer your question specifically, i dont think windows 32bit will care in the least, it just wont be able to see it.

having said that -- i have noticed that memory incompatibilities can lead to instability, so make sure you get matching sticks, etc.

i'll try to fix this weekend.

We were talking on the donationcoder chat channel and came up with a possible idea.

The idea is for people to pledge things they will give to donors during the fundraiser.
So people could pledge an item or even better a service, and an amount of donation needed to qualify.
Once an item was claimed it would not be available for others, so it would be first come first serve.
Things on the list might be like:
$50 donation = i volunteer to paint you a picture
$100 donation = one hour therapy session from KenR
etc.

I wonder if anyone knows any web service that can manage such offers and claims?

Or is this a bad idea?

Living Room / July 25th - Happy SysAdminDay you poor b*stards
« Last post by mouser on July 25, 2008, 08:29 AM »
Last Friday Of July (this year on July 25th) is SysAdminDay - System Administrator Appreciation Day.

I knows these guys and gals need a day of appreciation -- it's a largely thankless painful job, made all that much harder by the fact that the entire internet infrastructure is a disaster.

So let's say a word of thanks to our tireless wonderful sys admin at DonationCoder, Gothi[c], who has done an incredible job keeping this server running smoothly.

Developer's Corner / GalaXQL - Cool interactive sql tutorial toy
« Last post by mouser on July 25, 2008, 06:03 AM »
Someone submitted this through the suggestion form and i tried it -- very fun and cool.

Great way to learn a little sql database stuff.  You learn while you manipulate the universe

Cross platform runs on windows and mac and source code is available.

Follow the instructions by your virtual teacher. The teacher can understand several possible mistakes that you may make, and gives hints on what may have gone wrong. You can skip to any chapter in the tutorial whenever you want.

Use the query editor to interact with the database, and to complete the assignments given by the virtual teacher. In case of syntax errors, SQLite (the database engine used in GalaXQL) returns helpful, human-readable error messages.

Author seems like a cool guy too and there are lots of other fun things on his website, including an active blog: http://sol.gfxile.net/index.html

From the last lesson in the program: "Also, send the author some mail! One of the biggest motivations for writing free software like this is getting comments from people, and it's always nice to hear when people find your programs to be useful."

So if you use the program send him an email and say hello (contact button is in upper right on blog page)

grab the latest minicap just uploaded:
https://www.donation...ads/MiniCapSetup.exe

replace the minicap.exe in the farr alias with this new one once you extract it.

then you should be able to do something like this:

-capturescreen -save "C:\temp\EkranYakala\$dt:Y$\$dt:m$\$dt:H$\$appname$$uniquenum$.png" -exit

It is possible to do what you want its just easier in the new version because you can specifically put in fields for month, day, year so its easier to format date stuff properly.

im guessing its the "7/24/2008 "

im adding some date/time replacements to minicap to make it easier to specify custom paths based on dates.

MiniCap is supposed to autocreate the directory for you.

It may be the spaces or presence of illegal directory caharacters that could cause it to fail?

CHASTE is actually pretty good.. but as has been pointed out i'm afraid it's probably too late to change it unless there is some kind of complete rewrite.

Another note to users, to install this you would put the minicap directory in your FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups\Installed directory.  That alias subdirectory is marked as Read-only from within FARR so that it can be easily updated.

If you wanted to customize some of the results, you could instead put it in your FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups\MyCustom directory, which makes it editable from within FARR.

really great.. I'll bet at lot of people find this useful.

here's a cool thing you could do -- for the items that auto capture into a directory, you could add the command to browse that directory onto the alias result.  you would do it by adding something like ";;; restartsearch %MYDOCUMENTS%\crashinfo\" to the alias result before the icon.
22469
i dont think you should have to quote blanks if it can be helped.

I've been trying to develop something shorter that would work on a CSV of any number of columns

for the reason i said before (commas in quotes), we would be much better off petitioning czb to add an option for auto parsing csv files.
22475
Clearly i need to make a new program: FarrStarter

It's only purpose will be to pop up out of the tray when it detects FARR has died, and offer to restart it.
