I replied to them telling them they lost me as a customer and referral source after their last fiasco. I ensured it was received as I sent it directly to Peter Brooks. This company lost my trust with their 2.5 month outage and non-communication phase.

General Software Discussion / Choppy video playback in full screen
« Last post by Josh on December 16, 2007, 01:23 PM »
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced choppy playback in Windows Vista while the video is full screen. My videos play fine in windowed mode maximized to full screen, but they play very choppy in actual full screen mode. Any ideas?

I am sorry but we do not help with obtaining license keys for programs illegally. If you wish to obtain a key, please purchase one.

Like I said, look for an entry under "System" labeled BugCheck

It should contain information similar to such:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x1000008e (0xc0000005, 0x99621f07, 0xad5ff9a4, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini121507-02.dmp.

This will tell you the code. The first number 0x10000008e is the bug check code. This one indicates a KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLDED bugcheck. Again, in combination with the bluesave utility and the debugging tools, I feel this could help you.

I cannot seem to find a homepage for it anymore, but bluesave would let you save the blue screen information.

Another solution is that you can use the event viewer, start - run - eventvwr.msc, and look in the system log for "Bug Check" listings. This contains four hex codes. The second hex code can be looked up using the Windows Debugging Tools. This program contains a help file which has a section to lookup all of the bug check codes.

This is a pet peeve of mine from the days of windows 95. DCUpdater is one application from DC that also has this fault, in fact its forced me out of some dx games which causes windows to choke. No application should steal focus unless it is a virus scanner, spyware scanner, or other security tool.

All I can say is dont shoot me. I am only the messenger. I am not claiming that this works, I am merely posting what I saw. I did not sign up, nor can I verify. So if there are questions, there are several sites around the web advertising this and discussing it.

Need a free copy of Windows Vista Ultimate? Are you incredibly trusting of big corporations? Well I have the deal for you, with a new program through Microsoft called the Windows Feedback Program. For the small price of privacy and perhaps some dignity, you can let Microsoft watch your every move for 3 months, in return for some software of your choice. Surveys are also required, one at the start, and then another in 2 week intervals, but compared to the bigger issue those are pretty painless. Some might find this to be an excellent deal, with software prices high, and cost of your free time to be almost nothing at all.

Through the following link http://wfp.microsoft.com/ you can sign up for this program, which has the following rules:

    * Participation is currently limited to US residents of 18 years and older.
    * You are the owner of the computer you use for this program.
    * The automated feedback program is offered to Windows Vista and Windows XP customers only.
    * The survey feedback program applies to all versions of Windows.
    * Microsoft, comScore, and MarketTools employees are not eligible to participate.

General Software Discussion / Vista SP1 Hot new feature - Hotpatching
« Last post by Josh on December 11, 2007, 07:06 AM »
Windows Vista SP1 enables support for hotpatching, a reboot-reduction servicing technology designed to maximize uptime. It works by allowing Windows components to be updated (or "patched") while they are still in use by a running process. Hotpatch-enabled update packages are installed via the same methods as traditional update packages, and will not trigger a system reboot.

Other changes:

    * Improves patch deployment by retrying failed updates in cases where multiple updates are pending and the failure of one update causes other updates to fail as well.
    * Enables reliable OS installation by optimizing OS installers so that they are run only when required during patch installation. Fewer installers operating results in fewer points of potential failure during installation, which leads to more robust and reliable installation.
    * Improves overall install time for updates by optimizing the query for installed OS updates.
    * Improves robustness during the patch installation by being resilient to transient errors such as sharing violations or access violations.
    * Improves robustness of transient failures during the disk cleanup of old OS files after install.
    * Improves the uninstallation experience for OS updates by improving the uninstallation routines in custom OS installation code.
    * Improves reliability of OS updates by making them more resilient to unexpected interruptions, such as power failure

Is there a program which will tell you what program is accessing a hard disk at any given time and what the program is accessing? I am trying to troubleshoot the constant churn of my hard drives and want to find out what is causing this.
