say you havent checked unread posts in a while & there's a few pages of them
a "select all" option would be nice (i.e. select all on current page)
then you could mark page as unread (or deselect a couple first) & refresh

There is already a feature that lets you do that:

Some i am looking at:

Or I could work on our own new ideas:

The demo scene is all about making beautiful graphics (and often music) in a very small executable, using clever tricks to generate graphics programmatically on the fly.

The point is, with the correct flow, you can make almost anything from scratch. But another timely question nowadays is... why, and who will care? Isn't the final product the equivalent of putting a model ship in a bottle - a big 'how did they do that' impressed moment, but no real takeaway?

Well, I do care, because it's art, and it's beautiful, and because wringing that kind of performance out of your PC in real-time is breathtaking.

Living Room / Flash Game of the Week - Shadez: The Black Operations
« Last post by mouser on August 29, 2008, 05:44 AM »
This one was mentioned on JayIsGames.com today, but i think it deserves a bigger write up.

[ edit: it's featured more prominently today at PlayThisThing.com ]

It's a beautifully animated military game that borrows elements from Tower Defense games and RPG games.  Your units do battles mostly on their own but you have to make careful decisions about what weapons and units to use and when.  Clever idea and beautifully done.

A follow up:

App scolded me this morning for not living up to DC spirit of giving love to other sites because of our severe nofollow tags being added to all links.

She was right -- a major goal of DC is to give some attention and recognition to small sites and it wasn't fair that all links on our forum were being marked as nofollow.

So I've just finished making some some changes to the policy and code.  Now all links in the bodies of messages posted by anyone with 3 or more posts are linked normally, without any nofollow tags.  Same with blog items.

Links in signatures and profile, and profile website and other icon links on the left under member name, are still marked as NOFOLLOW since they are not reflective of organic discussion content.

i use RapidSvn.. it's a big buggy but it does work and is useful if you are a GUI person.

TortoiseSVN works a lot better in many ways.. BUT I couldn't stand how it latched into my explorer shell, i wanted a standalone tool.

Skrommel's Software / Re: Noise program
« Last post by mouser on August 28, 2008, 07:13 PM »
Someone should have posted a reply to this earlier.. What you are experiencing is a false positive virus alarm that seems to happen regularly with programs built using the AutoHotkey scripting language (all of Skrommel's software).  It's very annoying to developers and it's caused by lazy+stupid antivirus writers.  If you search the web and this forum you will more discussions of this problem.  There is no virus in the program.

Quite a few people originally discovered DonationCoder and our software from Zaine Ridling's wonderful "The Great Software List".  And zaine has been a regular figure on our forums.

Those of you who know Zaine know that he's become somewhat of a linux fan in the last couple of years, and he just finished setting up his new Great Software List for Linux.

I'm just updating the nofollow link stuff as per the constructive criticisms on this thread: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=13577.0

And i think we might as well add some more fun mods to the forum software.  Here are the two SMF mod lists, let us know what you'd like to see installed:

« Last post by mouser on August 28, 2008, 08:27 AM »
no problem, i know it's a bit confusing -- i'm going to try to find an alternate way to do it besides pre-populating those directories.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Plugins not loaded
« Last post by mouser on August 28, 2008, 08:19 AM »
The problem was discussed here: https://www.donation....msg123410#msg123410

basically it's just a confusion -- the plugins do not come pre-installed, so what you are seeing is just sort of "placeholders" for the plugins.  if you run the updater you will see some plugins you can install.

my plan is to add a simple scripting thing to process tamer which could do what you are asking.

Living Room / Re: Opinions on Netflix?
« Last post by mouser on August 28, 2008, 07:14 AM »
netflix is surprisingly good.  give it a try, you can always cancel easily.
some things that might not be obvious:
netflix has a pretty big collection of movies that you can watch online/stream once you subscribe to their non-lowest-level subscription.  i found myself using that as much as the mail dvds.
the queueing system of netflix is fun and makes it easy to find and save movies you want to watch.
you can easily "pause" your subscription for a few months which is nice when you dont have anything you want to rent.

Find And Run Robot / Re: .Net SDK - How to tell enter is pressed?
« Last post by mouser on August 27, 2008, 05:57 PM »
yay another plugin!!!

im not sure the c# wrapper has the new search functions which pass the triggermode parameter which is 1 if Enter was pressed.  take a look at the c++ wrapper and see if you need some help adding those functions for the c# wrapper.  if so we can try to help.
