Screenshot Captor / Re: No option to take screenshots in BMP format as default?
« Last post by mouser on September 26, 2008, 12:10 PM »
my understanding is that BMP is a very bloated format and that PNG is a lossless format that is far far superior.  So PNG will give you perfect screenshots at a much much smaller file size.

General Software Discussion / Re: What are your opinions on fan-editing?
« Last post by mouser on September 26, 2008, 03:15 AM »
I've thought for many years that this is going to be the future of movie making.  In the next decade i predict that when a new movie is released i theatres, the complete unedited raw footage of the shooting of the movie (hundreds of hours of different takes, etc.) will be available on the web for people to reassemble and re-edit.

freewareworld team is a GREAT site.. i wonder what google has detected?

i've posted about many freeware discoveries on the site, and about the site itself here: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=6737.0

one of the nicest things about freeware world team site is that they actively go out and find new freeware programs even if the author has never created a pad file, etc., so they often find things other sites dont.

General Software Discussion / Re: AVG vs TicTocTitle
« Last post by mouser on September 24, 2008, 05:53 PM »
im so sick of these antivirus false alarms on programs built with the autohotkey scripting languages.  in more reasonable times the ahk villagers would get torches by now and burn down these antivirus headquarters and i'd bring the matches.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New plugin: FARR Remember The Milk 0.0.1
« Last post by mouser on September 24, 2008, 03:35 PM »
the one thing that confused me a little was that i expected i could select a task, and THEN choose to delete or mark as complete.

i eventually figured out that i had to go to main menu and choose delete then select the project.  it might be nice if there was a way to do those operations from viewing a task.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Timer
« Last post by mouser on September 24, 2008, 03:01 AM »
I found out why my latest install of timer wasn't working -- the directory for storing the timer.txt settings was reset to a non-existent directory, which caused the plugin to not work.

If you get this behavior, time "tm settings" and specify a valid directory.

From a blog entry on cnet/webware:
If you're one of those people who tries to grab his or her own preferred username on every new service that comes along, just in case the service becomes hot one day and you want to start using that cool ID, check out this new tool: Usernamecheck.

All it does is ask you for a user name, and then pings about 45 services so it can return to you "taken" or "available" for each one.

If a name is taken, it can't tell you if the owner of it is you or someone else (how would it know?), and there's as yet no way to add new sites for it to check--you have to wait for the developer to add them. Also, it's slow. And it doesn't appear to work on anything but Firefox.

But this is a useful tool for managing one's personal brand. And here's a tip for parents-to-be: Run your baby names through it, as well as through BustAName. Your kid might thank you.

Living Room / Garden Inventor: Tower Defense Game of the Week
« Last post by mouser on September 23, 2008, 11:54 PM »
Here's a very nice and nicely balanced tower defense game.  You must defend your garden from bugs.  Just a nice feel overall, with a series of different levels that you must complete in order to win the game.  Each level is a bit different.

I'd say the only real weakness of the game is that it plays a bit slow.  I'd love a "speed up" button.

you can add more folders to the list of directories searched.

as for your dilemna -- that's why many of us use both a keyboard launcher like farr, and a launchbar program (like Launchbar Commander).

Eric, you continue to amaze.

I hope i don't have to remind people that if you appreciate what Eric has been creating on the forum, that you send him a few donationcredits and a word of encouragement!  We are extremely lucky to have coders like Eric roaming the forum and implementing requests and we need to let him know how much it's appreciated.
