Some of you probably already know this, but I just discovered it.

You can, from the Run menu, open a command line interface into the current directory, from Notepad++.  That's a nice bonus, for me, because I use Notepad++ extensively in my programming.

I developed just such an app several months ago, but it has found me so much money that I find I'm in no need of selling licenses of it :D

I just found Duplicati, which is free, works on Linux/Windows, and purports to offer the following:

Duplicati has a very user friendly interface that allows you to configure and monitor your backups. It supports backing up to a variety of destinations:

    * A network folder
    * An USB Disk
    * A remote server using FTP
    * A remote server using encrypted SSH
    * A remote server using WEBDAV
    * Amazon S3 storage
    * CloudFiles
    * Tahoe-LAFS

I know this thread is old, but I found something that looks like it fills snugly in this category of application:
PsychoFolder link

psychoFolder.png

  • know if files are added, deleted or changed in the folder
  • monitor folder to copy specific files that you sometimes download to another directory
  • if used to monitor your Downloads folder, configure rules to unpack downloads automatically
  • execute files when they are dropped into the folder

Version 1.0.4.0 is released.  Use "About"->"Update" to download the update installer.

Apostrophes are supposed to be among the punctuation marks that are automatically shown in plain-text when a new puzzle is presented (i.e., you  shouldn't have to guess them).

I've made a small change which should fix this problem.  Formerly, the punctuation characters that were not masked at the beginning of a game were:

public const string Punctuation = "&., !?'(){}[];:\"-/$";

As you can see, I'd inserted an apostrophe using my keyboard apostrophe.  However, when I went to the actual text file and looked up the phrase that lost you the game, I found, and copy-pasted into my source code, a slightly different-looking apostrophe symbol:

public const string Punctuation = "&., !?'’(){}[];:\"-/$";

If you look just to the right of the question mark in the code fragment above, you'll see that the question mark symbol is now followed by two (slightly different from each other) apostrophes.

Again, thank you thancock20 for bringing this to my attention.  I've updated the program to give you credit as a beta-tester:

My sincere apology that this bug lost you an important game.

Another decent site that's gone belly-up is Elite Freeware.  I used to read that blog a lot, and was sorry to see it's going away.

Just finished Neal Stephenson's Anathem.  Whew!  What a read!  I found the pacing a bit slow at some points, but overall it's very good:  intellectually stimulating, and a book that you cannot read on auto-pilot, not if you want to appreciate it.

Now I've downloaded the Kindle version of K.C. May's first book in The Kinshield Legacy.  At over 600-pages in the paperback edition, I figure I got a steal with a 99 cent download ($1.05 final charge).  Compare that to the $11+ price on Amazon for the paperback.

I've taken a stab at this, and I give you "Tracker of Found Money 1.0.0.0":

trackerOfFoundMoney.png

Features Implemented thus far:

  • ability to add money found, including date found, number of each type of coin or bill, and the location where you found it.
  • ability to search saved files in a particular date range, to return all "I found money on this date" files in that range.
  • ability to click on one of the found files to view the particulars of that find.
  • ability to add custom "locations found" to the drop-down comboBox

trackerDetailsOfFind.png

You can download it by going to My Downloads Page.  It's the first program in the table (at least, it's first at the time of this posting), and is about a 348 Kb download for the setup program.

Possible future improvements:

  • ability to sum all found money between two dates
  • graphing of data

General Software Discussion / Drivers Log software
« Last post by kyrathaba on July 08, 2011, 09:48 PM »
I got wind of this via a newsgroup I subscribe to.  It's freeware software with the following description:

Shane Stump, creator of Stumpware created this software for monitoring maintenance, expenses, and overall costs of owning your vehicle. Much better than a simple spreadsheet, this log can be used to track multiple motorcycles and cars.

This link explains that despite it's former ~$60 price-tag, it now truly is freeware.  There's a download link on the page I linked to; the download link is:

That means I'm up to almost 43 cents per hour spent developing it  :up:

Also, the image from their page that you posted above reads in a way that suggests that you get 50GB for referring one single person.  It'd be unambiguous to say "Gain up to a maximum of 50 GB by referring your friends" or -- even better -- "Gain 1 GB of extra storage for every friend you refer who registers with SpiderOak".

LOL!  Hang in there, hamradio!  You can do it!

Interesting: there are over 78,000 points separating our three highest scorers from the other 39 competitors...

You're correct. Yet I continue to get prompted to upgrade, or else delete enough files from my backup queue to drop below 8 GB.

We're getting a lot of visitors who're checking out the app.  I've done some free press-releases about the 2012 NANY event, and the Hangman contest.  We're up to 39 registered competitors.  I've made the app available for download various places and, from what I can tell by visiting those locations, total downloads is up to several hundred.  Of course, beyond the actual download you get fewer people who actually install; and beyond the installation, fewer still who actually register and compete.  Still, to be this early in the NANY event, I'm happy.

I'm back down to 8GB, which the SpiderOak app has been telling me is the maximum amount of free space I can have.  That's fine by me.  They had to set the limit somewhere.  My only minor irritation was that for several days it let me have 10GB of stuff backed up.  To me, that's a bug.

I've never had it jam up for days, but I have had it seem to stall out for 2-3 hours; eventually it always finishes it's business for me.  Can't say that I blame you, though, if you weren't satisfied with its performance.  And certainly Dropbox remains, for me, the most elegant -- I suppose just because it's so darned simple to use!
