DC Member Programs and Projects / Re: To Do Tree

Dormouse is right, you need to be able to check off completed items and see that you have completed them.
However in keeping with your minimalist approach, a nice compromise would be a View mode that let you decide whether you wanted to see all items (with checkboxes user could mark for completed items), or view only unfinished items (which would hide all checked items).

looks elegant -- i like the minimalist approach.

there may be another commandline option to tell outlook to bring up previous copy.

HOWEVER, having said that what i think i will do is add an option to LBC to smartly reactivate a running copy of a program if its already running -- i think it would be useful in general for some applications.

been tweaking a tiny bit and talking to ewemoa about how some things work and he is making great progress extending fsubscript to let each plugin script be triggered normally like all other plugins.  I'd say in very short time fsubscript scripts will be 100% as powerful and flexible as normal fscript plugins.  This is truly a great thing  :-* :-*   :-* :-*

Maybe starting a new church program would be a good project for NANY 2009.

Post New Requests Here / Re: DI.FM/SKY.FM Aliases/quick launch via FARR

if tranglos solution works you could even create a special farr alias that knows where the pls files are and restricted a search to them, so you could type:

difm blah

and it would show all .pls files in a certain directory that match the term "blah"

using pls files would also probably have the advantage that:
it would launch winamp if not running, or leave winamp running and just open stream if it was already running (like a browser).

The Getting Organized Experiment of 2007 / Re: New Getting Organized Experiment?
« Last post by mouser on November 20, 2008, 11:38 AM »
How about we begin GOE 2009 in January to usher in the new year?

Does someone want to volunteer to be the the supervisor of whatever "Getting Organized 2009" entails?

I think waiting until january would be a good idea for several reasons, not the least of which is we have our big NANY 2009 thing that ends on or around January 1st so we don't want GOE 2009 to start until a couple weeks after that finishes.

seems fairly easy to do but im not sure it would depend on winamp i guess.

let me ask you this.. is there a commandline you could invoke that would open winamp and tell it to go to those stations you mention?
or, is there some windows messages you can send to winamp to cause it to do that?
or maybe there is simply a url that when opened in web browser (or winamp) causes winamp to open to that?

in other words, your first step has to be to figure out how to call winamp and have it open those streams, leaving aside any issue of interfacing with farr.  once you figure out how to do that non-interactively, then ask again how to add such triggers to farr.

cool, trying now.

we use SoftLayer for the main server.. they are not cheap, but they are good: http://www.softlayer.com/

History of DC servers:
  • DC started on a $10/month normal web hosting account in march 2005
  • Upgraded to $60/month vps at some point
  • Then upgraded to dedicated server after that (maybe in the $150 range?)
  • Last year after much anguish decided to spend the big bucks and go for a high quality dedicated server ($280 a month)

well we do get about 1 spam post per day i think, but because we have such nice readers they always spot it and report it -- and then we have great moderators like jgpaiva and carol haynes and others who quickly delete the spam posts and ban the user.

The secret is a $279 a month dedicated server.

And it needs to be pointed out that the only reason we can afford that is because of donations from ordinary people to support the site.

one step forward, one step back.
someone tell Microsoft to focus on operating systems and stop trying to write one of every program in the world.  not helping.
21423
ecaradec is right -- the plugins should not do the filtering -- farr can do a smarter job (or else farr should be fired!)

i think it just requires an extra function for me to write that the plugins can call.

Let me explain:

There are two ways that a plugin normall gets called:
1) either because its keyword is typed by the user
2) or what user types matches a regular expression.

in case 1, usually what farr does is automatically filter the results returned by the user based on subsequent words on the search string after the first keyword that matched plugin name.

in case 2, usually you do not want subsequent filtering, since presumably you are catching other text on the line besides just the one keyword at the front.

---

now i think the problem with fsubscript is that the parent fsubscript script basically has to match on the raw string (or by matching .* regex) -- so farr doesnt know how to do subsequent filtering.

so i think what i need to add is a pluginp->set_strvalue("filteron",rest of typed search to filter on)

and then fsubscript can call this function with search words after the first matching keyword.

does that make sense?
21424
basically the first plugin that matches will prevent others from generating results.  but thats the way all plugins work.

alternatively if you think some plugins want to generate results and not stop others from making results, you could have a per-plugin option to say whether to stop or not.

if you are rewriting something from the ground up i think it counts as a new application.
