that is not intended behavior, i shall fix.

btw you also need to get latest fscript from ewe which can search deeper for fsubscript plugins.

cool idea and interesting.. doesnt seem to work all that well for me in terms of selecting directories to zip and autocompleting.. but cool idea.

May be farr could allow plugins to handle the "tab" key ?
sure, i could add that if you like.

And you are saying it used to work ok, and then suddenly stopped working -- and you didn't replace your network card -- it was purely just a software change that made it stop working?

An extremely clever idea to use the wdx plugins to do this -- and I think this is pretty amazing.   :o

General Software Discussion / ghacks christmas giveaway and reviews
« Last post by mouser on November 30, 2008, 04:24 AM »
Martin and our friends at ghacks.net are going to be giving out a lot of software in December, a different program each day.  Sounds like a fun event!

I actually had the idea last year but did not pursuit it enough to make it happen in 2007. This year however is different. I’m very proud to announce the first annual Ghacks Christmas Giveaway. We will provide visitors with the opportunity to win excellent software programs (and probably other things as well) from December 1 to December 24.
...
Well there are not many rules for the giveaway. Anyone can participate only once per day. The winners will be drawn randomly from the list of commenters and notified the next day per email.

What operating system are you guys using?

N.A.N.Y. 2009 / NANY 2009: Volunteer needed to Organize Entrants
« Last post by mouser on November 28, 2008, 09:05 PM »
I think we need a non-coding volunteer to help coordinate and organize the people entering NANY 2009 this year.

Here's what the person would do:
  • Send messages to everyone on the NANY 2009 intro thread (or other coders who haven't posted there but should [skrommel i'm talking to you!]), and make sure they stay on track to release their NANY app on time.
  • Make sure they follow the rest of the guidelines for NANY 2009, like starting a thread for their program, submitting their address to get their mug, etc.
  • Just in general make sure everyone who is participating is doing what they should be to make a successful event.

Your reward: The heartfelt appreciation from all of us, and a DC NANY 2009 mug.

Note: This needs a responsible organized person who is good at hearding cats.

yeah the native search is pretty damn cool.

Wow when did that come out Veign -- i don't remember you posting about it.  Looks cool !

General Software Discussion / Simple free commandline text search and replace tool?
« Last post by mouser on November 28, 2008, 10:25 AM »
I'm looking for a really simple commandline search and replace tool, which can be run non-interactively and told to find and replace a string in a text file.
Any suggestions?

I presume that CHS's database isn't secure enough for that?

correct -- i would not use it for anything like that, and RoboForm is so much better at such things, as are all browser form fillers.

« Last post by mouser on November 28, 2008, 09:16 AM »
I think it's a good idea -- in fact, i'd suggest every NANY participant each start there own thread in the NANY 2009 section, and title it something like "NANY 2009 Release: YOUR WORKING TITLE HERE".

So each NANY 2009 app will have it's own thread and you can request testers, post teaser screenshots, etc.

General Software Discussion / Re: IDEA: programs that I have uninstalled
« Last post by mouser on November 28, 2008, 09:14 AM »
Rather than look for a fancy technical solution to this, i would recommend a simple habit of keeping notes of everything you install and why (and making a note of why you uninstalled).

Think of it like a computer diary -- and keep track also of any tricks you discover, registry changes you make, etc.

It makes putting together a new pc easier.

I can't really take credit for the functionality -- i'm using a 3rd party library -- but actually it does support delays.
See the help page for the different kinds of keys you can send and other options:

I uploaded a CHS beta if you want to experiment:

Clipboard Help+Spell / CHS - New feature coming in next release - SendKeys
« Last post by mouser on November 28, 2008, 01:16 AM »
I'll be uploading a new release of CHS this weekend.
Mostly it's minor stuff and a couple of bugfixes.
But i wanted to tell you about a cool new feature:

Normally CHS pastes text by putting it on the clipboard and then simulating a CTRL+V in the target window.  This works fine in 99% of cases.

But now if a clip starts with {sendkeys} then CHS will use an alternative method of pasting the clip into the target application (or you can set it to use the alternate method by default).

The new method simulates each key press one at a time, and most importantly, can send tabs, function keys, ctrl keys, etc.

This will let you create clips that actually fill out multiple fields by putting a TAB after each field.

And a really cool example of this is that you can create a Formatting Preset for example, that takes a string like 1111-2222-3333 and converts it to:
{sendkeys}1111{TAB}2222{TAB}3333

If you call this formatting preset something like "Paste Serial Into Fields" you can see why it would be useful -- you can use it to fill in a multi-field serial number dialog in an installation program using only a couple of key presses:
  • Select the string with dashes in it
  • Move to the first serial number field in the installer
  • Hit Ctrl+Alt+Q to bring up the quick paste menu (or whatever hotkey you configured), and choose the "Paste Serial Into Fields" preset from the menu.
  • All done.

The truth is that it seems more special to give out those things to people on special occasions, rather than have people buying them -- so the ridiculous prices help make sure that people don't just buy things.
