very strange about the flyout.. i'll look into it.. do you have multiple monitors maybe?

I have a query about the .object files it creates. I am not sure how to delete these from the gui.

• when you delete a screenshot it will delete the .object file for you.
• you can also go to last tab of preferences dialog and tell it to remove all orphaned .object files immediately if you happen to have deleted some screenshots outside of screenshot captor.

That is really strange.. does it only happen with that one shortcut, Live Messenger?
If you start the shortcut manually from your start menu, does it work?  The screenshot lists the program directory in the "Out of Business" folder, so it makes me think maybe the shortcut itself is nonfunctional.

I think it's a great point.. and there is probably a lot of truth in it.

And in fact I am a believer that at a certain point giving someone too many choices results in overload and is counter productive.

On the other hand, I think one could make a strong case that "Apple Logic" results in the marketing approach that basically relies on irrational brand worship to convince a large group of consumers that a certain product is a perfect match for them.

In other words, if you are a car manufacturer and you have 100 types of cars, you can take an approach of trying to help the customer find the car that's right for them.  If you sell only one car, your marketing strategy basically has to be: This is the perfect car for everyone, stats and features be damned.  And I think apple engages in a lot of that type of marketing, and it has always rubbed me the wrong way.

Just as an example of something really clever that i've seen apple doing is in selling a computer, they will run an entire commercial showing how someone can burn a cd of their music and give it to their friends, etc.  Now it doesnt matter that you can get a nice cd burning program for any computer -- the point is not to tout any unique or special features of the computer being sold, the point is to convince the consumer that if burning cds is something you want to do, you should get an apple pc.  I just find it weird.. Personally i'd rather read about unique features and specs and they can keep their logo and round one button mouse.

[again im not knocking everything that apple does at all -- they do a LOT of things right.  it's just that while i think their marketing department is very successful -- it's not something i would look up to or admire]

Nice. 

I think it's even worse than your examples illustrate.  More and more i see evidence of companies and services charging fees that they KNOW are erroneous -- and it's just a matter of letting those who catch the error complain, at which point they remove the charge without issue.  Then the rest of the people who never notice.. they pay the price.

After some emails I have received word from Twitpay that they have agreed to change their logo slightly to avoid the conflict.  It looks like the new Twitpay logo may be a bird with a dollar bill (or something similar) in his mouth instead of a coin.  It may turn out to be something different, but it seems like we came to a reasonable solution that i feel avoids any potential confusion between the two sites.  Hopefully the two mascot birds can now be friends.

That is a hard name to pronounce!! 

First, thanks for the cool post.. it's very cool to see someone breaking down the scores like this -- almost like a detective trying to solve a mystery.

The irfanview shortcut is exciting FARR because of this substring:
IrfanView - Thumbnails.lnk

Now ideally, and clearly, your mbna.rfp should have won with a highest score.. 99 times out of 100 farr would be smart enough to rank it on top.  Initially i thought the history might be what is causing it, but you said already both are in history.

I have an idea.. could you try disabling the non-contiguous search option and see if that lowers the score:


If it is that, then its a bug in that.  If it's not that then maybe i will try to reproduce it.

in vista the configuration and use aliases are stored under documents and settings.  your technique will work if you just copy the appropriate files to that location.

When I was planning to write about FindandRun Robot. I was wondering why would someone need it on a Windows 7 or for that matter a Windows Vista machine. I totally understand it’s need on prior versions of Windows before Windows Vista. But after I installed and started using it I was in love with this utility. Also, it’s much more advanced than Vista or Windows 7 “Search programs and files” feature.

May be it would give better results by giving a higher score to the "closiness" and the "sequentiality" of the letters. i.e. Thundirbird should have a higher ranking than TV recorder GBPVR documentation Wiki or even Bird watching
