General Software Discussion / Re: Backup4all v.7 supports 37+ online backups (!)
« Last post by wraith808 on November 01, 2017, 03:20 PM »
37 Backup Services all using S3 means there's really only 1 backup service: S3. :-\

It has others.  There's just a lot of S3 action.  It does google, azure, onedrive, dropbox, and others.  It's just that now they have added the capability to use any service that uses S3 on the backend.

There are some that come up if you google "C++ tutorial"

Some I found there:

Yes, it makes sense.  Just wanted to know whether there was to be some sort of criteria.

Will there be other requirements for getting a page other than just being a DC Member?

I play some things, but not that much; still on steam as my major games are not on Gog.  A hint- if your steam games don't show up, try to refresh.  Two of mine weren't in the ones offered, so I did it, and they magically appeared.

How about like the GoG Connect thread, we post all GoG giveaways to this thread so they update?  Just a thought.

Anyone have any additional features they'd like to see on the dcmembers sites?
Any wordpress folks have favorite plugins that they think would be useful to make available on member sites?

Plugins for Highlighting would be helpful.  The one that I used is Crayon Syntax Highlighter: https://wordpress.or...-syntax-highlighter/

Post New Requests Here / Re: Super Simple "Alarm Clock"
« Last post by wraith808 on October 23, 2017, 07:12 AM »
Easiest and most efficient way to do this?

Got an Android or iOS device?

"OK Google/Hey Siri, set alarm for 2PM." Done.

Also, if you have a Google Home or Alexa (or Bixby).  You can do the same thing.  It's been the biggest revelation for me.

I do highly recommend against manually placing any DLL file into system folders!

Agreed!

I'm just saying it's on the same scale.  Probably to fit within the constraints of TV, they were not in the bots, and more importantly, not at risk.  They built these bots, and had sponsors, and destroyed the other bots.  In a lot of cases, if anyone was in the bot, they would have been hurt or killed.

Hope you're getting paid hourly...

rofl ... Nope - Bid flat rate for job -  This is what's technically referred to as a huge fucking mistake.

Vodka.  Lots of Vodka.  Might not make you feel better about it, but it will make you not care.  ;D

Non-Windows Software / Re: Google Play Store Android updates not new

I haven't noticed it across 2 tablets and my phone

Fences, which has a 3 license pack in one of the lower tiers if you were to get the SpiderOak deal, is an amazing bit of software for Windows users that keep icons on their desktop.  I've been using it so long that I find myself incredibly frustrated any time I have to use a computer that does not have it installed.

Agreed, though the regular price is $9.99 for Fences, so not so good a deal unless you want to get other software in the deal.

Sins of Empire by Brian McClellan.  Just as good as the first series, IMO.

There is a thread for political humor in the basement.  Perhaps, to err on the side of caution, it should be placed there?

It is not available to me, and I've tried to restart the service to see if it would update on my desktop.  (This is desktop that I'm referring to.)

So I tried to check on my mobile after your post, and it's there.  Maybe they just haven't pushed it out to desktop yet.

Living Room / Disabling autoplaying videos in Chrome goes viral
« Last post by wraith808 on October 05, 2017, 12:38 PM »
Chris Meadows posted a Twitter tip telling how to disable autoplay video in Chrome: "If you use Google Chrome, go to

chrome://flags/#autoplay-policy

--and set it to 'Document user activation is required.' Boom: no more auto-playing videos. You’re welcome." 6,000 retweets later, Meadows talks about how the viral response shows wide frustration with the web experience. (TeleRead):

The question still remains, however...

It puzzles me that so many sites seem to think that annoying people is the best way to endear themselves to their audience, but even I hadn’t realized just how annoying people find it.

Why do sites insist on annoying their visitors?
