Stoic: I am one of the truly happy Vista users, I really dont see many problems with it.

As stated above, I dont understand what the big fuss is. Linux still lacks in application usability, compatibility, and functionality. You can dress it up all you want but even if you polish a turd, its still a turd. The lack of sufficient documentation for almost every application, the lack of an easy to understand and operate interface or option set,  the abundance of bugs that are never fixed (check the age of some of the firefox bugs for an example), the feature wish lists added which are not added because none of the developers deem an idea as necessary. I can go on and on. There are several blaring issues that exist with linux which make it far from suitable as a desktop OS (I left out the biggest one, hardware support). Eye candy doesnt make an OS worthy, and I stand by this comment with vista as well.

General Software Discussion / Re: Confirmed: UAC designed to annoy us!
« Last post by Josh on April 13, 2008, 07:36 AM »
And you see, that is the problem with most users. They get so annoyed with the feature "Out of the box" that they fail to realize those dialogs are minimal when you have been operating the computer for over a week (the post-install new software/initial setup phase). I for one have no problems with UAC. I leave it running and it has saved me on many accounts with my wife and daughter. It can be a bit tedious at times, very seldom, when it comes to deleting files in the root folder or program files folder, but that is when I write software makers for not having a proper uninstaller or installing to C:\.

Living Room / Cody shotglasses? What does the community think
« Last post by Josh on April 11, 2008, 09:46 AM »
I was talking with mouser and nudone about a collectable shotglass that mouser could give out for things like visiting or attending an IRL get together, special contests, etc. I was thinking about these

http://www.customink...ed-shot-glass/109300

With a picture of cody holding either a wine glass or beer bottle, or even possibly a shot glass of his own with some sort of saying on it. I feel this would be a very nice collectible item.

What does the community think?

I collect DVD's (I own legit copies not netflixed copies). Currently at 737 movies altogether.
The wife and I just started collecting shot glasses with our recent trips to DC and the national aquarium in baltimore. I'd love to see a DONATIONCODER.COM SHOT GLASS featuring cody drinking a beer ;-)
Thats about it for now.

Indexing does not bother me as it only indexes my start menu, my documents folder (nothing in it) and several other empty folders. So the thrashing is non-existent on my system.

Awesome! Thanks!!!

If we are going to use indexing (in any manner), it should be built in. Requiring the install of a third party program to use a feature in the primary program is bad, in my opinion.
2085
If the search indexer hasnt been changed, then you should be fine with its default indexing options. If you change it to index program files, then it will do so.

I too love the vista search for the start menu and explorer windows. I am leaving mine up and running.

General Software Discussion / Re: Sony BMG Sued For Using Pirated Software
« Last post by Josh on April 01, 2008, 05:33 PM »
Why is this something to laugh at? I guarantee every major corporation in existence can find at least one pirated app on one of its machines. There are very few which dont rely on it. Most just never get caught.

So, in an attempt to revive this thread. What does everyone think of the new subscription based windows services that are coming with Windows 7? You pay for the base OS and then addon what you want as far as additional small features.

Yes, but do they really need to be brought to DC? If Nudel has something against ZR, then I think that needs to be handled with him and not on the public forum of DC in an attempt to solicit a response here. This is hardly the most appropriate place.

I would be annoyed yes, but posting to a forum which has nothing to do with zaine's comments it inappropriate. Surely you would be annoyed if you saw someone post a personal grievance against another user in a way that is unnecessary and draws unneeded attention to something that can be handled privately?

I am not a moderator, but this is not the "Complain at zaine" Forum or website. Please, in the future, post your transgressions to a private message because I for one, and I know I am not alone, don't care.

While you might not have been able to post to zaines blog, there is probably a reason. I would delete comments by someone who seems to have an insatiable interest in my own reviews. I am sorry, but this type of posting (which you seem to do repeatedly) actually hurts DOpus and it's reputation as it makes you appear desperate to have to debunk any and all negative comments.

Living Room / Windows Vista SP1 Now available....as toilet paper
« Last post by Josh on April 01, 2008, 04:18 AM »
he Japanese are simply hyping Vista SP1 release. I was just surprised to find that a roll of toilet paper printed with highlighted features is already available in Japan. You kind of have to feel a little bad for Vista -- it just keeps getting crapped on these days. Now available in a Toilet Paper Near You - so if the flush doesn't work, do you blame in on Vista then.

Also for some trivia now - If there is one place in the world that any gadget-electronic freak should go to, that is Akihabara district in Tokyo. Numerous stores bring on fascinating number of products, often first in the world. There are also products which are not so usual, nor you can find them in retail or e-tail in any other part of the world.

Living Room / Upgrading Video and Power Supply on an Dell XPS 400
« Last post by Josh on March 30, 2008, 08:05 AM »
I have a question. I was just on the phone with a dell support representative and he advised me that if I wanted to upgrade the power supply to a 3rd party supply (Dell doesnt offer one that supports the GeForce 8800), I wouldnt be able to as dell didnt offer a model that supported my system. He also advised that third party supplies would not work with the dell system. Does anyone know if this statement holds water or if I can in fact upgrade my 350W power supply to support a higher end graphics card?

I can honestly say that I know for a fact this wasnt a .mil/.gov based attack. For one, the military does not do these types of attacks. There is no reason for them to do so. As a US Military member, I can tell you that most military installations have a hard enough time maintaining the endless problems and issues with their current networks and would not waste their time with an RIAA/MPAA issue. I am sorry, but just because the RIAA/MPAA have used an ip range in the past, doesnt mean they use it everytime. There is no reason for DC to be attacked by either of these organizations. We have no content that they would even care about

But anyways, I browse this site from work so if the site did block .mil, a stupid idea, I would be shut out and I would not like that too much. I am sorry, but this post sounds like paranoia.

I want hotkeys to be available based on the already user defined hotkeys in the vl config file. Basically, your first option.
