Whatever you do, do not download this 6.2 giveaway:
http://do2dear.net/p...tion-codes-giveaway/

I did a right click scan with MBAM and it said there were PUPS.  Like an idiot I tried the install anyway.  There were a bunch.  One of the included was SearchProtect.  Even after uninstalling when I booted up something blocked starting any program that put an icon in the tray, for about 2 minutes.

Finally after trying "short cuts" for 3 hours I ran MBAM and let the scan complete.  It found another bunch of puppies.  After MBAM cleaned them out my tray went back to normal.  Meaning the basic overcrowded and slow tray sans the two minute delay.  :)

But I'll have to decide what their timetable is, and whether if whatever they would call 10.1 with their rolling updates contains any bugfixes that sound really important.

What worries me is that they want to do everything using the Window Update.  That is just too much work if something blows up.  I even had several machines balk at installing ordinary service packs.  Never mind sifting through all the updates to see what to put on and what to leave out.  The descriptions are not very informative.  I feel like I am working for them at no pay when I start reading through all that stuff.  I try to stay away from Windows Update if at all possible.

Yes I am seeing July 29 in several places, for PCs. Time to reserve too I guess  :-\
Phones later I think.

I have never owned a phone with a camera.  The Wiki likely has my picture next to Troglodyte.  :)

I saw news articles today about Windows 10 release date & price being leaked. Here's one:

http://www.pcworld.c...nd-release-date.html

Supposedly it is July 29.  We have a contest at TenForums.  I picked 26th of July.  A few days premature.  :)

I've seen that type of behavior ever since I switched to using https on dc. Are you using https?

No, just the run of the mill http.  It only started this morning.  It seems like it may be back to normal.  Maybe it won't show up again until tomorrow morning?  If it does I will follow up.

ds.exe 1.0.1.0 available at link in first post.

I changed the default behavior when run with no arguments.  It searches for all the drives in the system and reports the space info.  CDROMs with no disc are reported as Not Ready.  Any other errors are just reported as No Space Info(e.g. a drive letter that does not exist etc..)

I noticed this morning that when I click New replies to your posts, and get the usual list of new replies, what is different is when I read them, then post my own reply in the thread, it comes up again as a new reply to my post.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Found Deals and Discounts / Nektra Spy Studio
« Last post by MilesAhead on May 30, 2015, 07:40 AM »
Nektra Spy Studio is now Freeware:
http://www.nektra.co.../spystudio-purchase/

The company offers support packages as shown in the chart.  I noticed it because it is featured on Shareware on Sale here: http://sharewareonsa...giveaway-coupon-sale

I don't understand it all yet.  But it seems it can virtualize applications a la VMWare ThinApp and also do trace comparisons of program file, registry, api and COM calls, to aid in debugging/troubleshooting.

Looks interesting even if you don't have any applications to publish.

Edit: it has both 32 and 64 bit downloads.

Good stuff!  Maybe a "ds /all" parameter (or similar) to easily output all drives?

Or it could do that by default instead of just the one taken from the current directory.  Good idea.

ds is a command line program to display disk space info in one of
B KB MB GB

Unlike df, which only displayed the disk free space and drive letter or share name, ds shows free used total and disk letter/share name.  The screen shot says it all.  :)

Living Room / Re: Anyone using mp3va.com ?

It was easier buying CDs.  Pay and play.  But with DRM I could be the one getting ripped off.  I read the comments on WOT.  Some sounded like shills for RIAA.  Some critics sounded reasonable.  Hard to say.  But a lot of the comments were of the "used them for years, no problem" variety.

I felt much better about buying online from CDNOW in the old days.  :)

Edit: speaking of ripoffs, I've been pricing some Cassandra Wilson albums.  The prices are higher now for some of them than when I bought them over 20 years ago.  $24 for a 24 year old CD?  Give me a break!  And I didn't check the shipping charges.

Account creation is part of (during) the install process. For me it was anyway.

Yup.  On the promotion I used it gave 50GB storage.

Living Room / Anyone using mp3va.com ?
« Last post by MilesAhead on May 29, 2015, 09:39 AM »
I'm looking to purchase a few mp3 tunes.  Is anyone using mp3va.com?  The prices are cheap and they claim the mp3 can be burned to CD.  But they require a minimum installment of $15 in your fund to pay for downloads.

I am bit leery of just tossing them $15 to find out I can't get it back.  On the other hand it has pretty good ratings on a couple of sites like WOT.

Turn on Tracking Protection in Firefox to Make Pages Load 44% Faster

Thanks for that.  Speed or no speed when I scan the only thing I usually find is tracking cookies. It would be nice if they never got on.  I set it on all my FF based browsers except CometBird.  If it works I'll try adding that value there also.

Edit: Not sure if it is related.  I notice pauses in Cyberfox for no reason.  I get the hourglass and cannot do anything until it decides to process messages.  I am going to try putting the setting back to false.

Edit2: It is hard to say.  But it seems like Cyberfox is the snappiest with the tracking protection set to false and the cache overridden and set to 0.  Better response and pages load more smoothly.

Found Deals and Discounts / YoWindow 4 Unlimited License Key
« Last post by MilesAhead on May 27, 2015, 05:15 PM »
I got YoWindow 4 from Windows Deal.  The deal has expired.  But the form for a free license key comes up in Google and I just got the email with the license key(I applied with another email address just to see if they would honor the request. They did.) It says YoWindow unlimited 3 but maybe nobody updated the form letter.  ( edit: I just checked the license I got for 4 and it says 3 so you should be good.. maybe.)

Anyway you could try the license key they send you with a download from Softpedia and see if it registers.

Here is the form url to apply for the license:
http://yowindow.com/...for_windowsdeal.php#

It would be better if it was actual video from a weather cam(or even a still every 20 seconds or so) rather than a simulation.  But what is kind of fun is you can crop your own photo and have the sky in motion as background.  Here is one I did using a picture of Miami.

dead dog slow

That's one of the reasons I like short stories. :)

I liked those of W. Somerset Maugham.  It has been so long since I read his stuff I forget the titles.

Thanks, never tried to drag a folder for it like that.

It may be fine.  I'm not Super User by any means.  In fact I have a tendency to go about using applications the wrong way around.  If I didn't already have OneDrive I may have worked it a bit longer.  :)

An occasional ad popup, otherwise very light and pretty fast for scans.

Thanks for the info.  :)
