The one thing about the above video is that i don't think it quite does justice to the nefariousness of the big financial institutions.

This recent interview from Bill Moyers show which i think is also very useful for understanding what happens and what's still going on.

The interview is with William Black, the former Director of the Institute for Fraud Prevention:

Developer's Corner / Dr.Dobbs Silverlight Programming Game Challenge
« Last post by mouser on April 10, 2009, 03:18 PM »
This could be a good way for anyone who was interested in learning to code using Microsoft's Flash Killer, Silverlight:

Welcome to Dr. Dobb's Challenge Deuce, a special game competition brought to you in association with the world-renowned Dr. Dobb's for software developers and Microsoft Visual Studio.

Use Dr. Dobbs and his team of friends to play the game and collect Visual Studio power-ups -- or team up with your own friends to develop your own games and levels!

You can win from a prize pool of $10,000 in two ways:

1. Use the "Create" option to make new in-game levels in the Silverlight application itself, and be automatically entered into a 'best level' competition, with Dr. Dobbs Bobblehead doll prizes given out weekly, plus monthly 'best level' prizes of $500!

2. If you really want to flex your creative muscle, download the Silverlight sample application and modify the code and art in a free trial version of Visual Studio to make your own completely custom game, then get it showcased on the Dr. Dobbs Challenge Deuce site.

I think it would be wonderful to see someone modify the sample game and use cody and his coins for the main game..

hi ct, good to see you back.
ps. take a look at that symbol under Josh's name -- thats one of the choose-your-own-badges, which was an idea you suggested over a year ago that was recently implemented :)

as for this idea.. it would actually be very easy to show a number next to each guest corresponding to a hash of their ip.. so it's not much trouble -- as admin it shows me the ips directly so i can see patterns if i were to look for it, though ive never bothered.

i can see how it would theoretically be interesting but im not sure it would be so in practice.

watch it, then you'll be able to transcend your confusion about this mess and simply start being incredibly angry instead.

what about those of us who are already well into being incredibly angry?

what you say is feasible.. but.. my gosh is it really something you (or anyone) would use??
seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through to get a more acurate calculation then the rough estimate you could make with your eyes, unless you have cerebellar damage and have difficulty measuring distances..

sounds reasonable, but i think it sounds like something that might be a good coding snack.. maybe try to formulate a more concise description of what you would like the tool to do, and maybe a coding snack author will give it a try.

That's really great Brittany -- I didn't know that.

The survey we ran at SurveyGizmo was a pleasure to set up and ran absolutely painlessly -- You have every reason to be proud of the service that SurveyGizmo has created.

no reason not to use screenshot captor, in fact i have considered adding some features similar to TimeSnapper for people who want to do that kind of stuff.  anyway i was just trying to point out that there are alternatives.. i wouldn't mind adding a commandline option to start capturing on startup.

I thought that i should also add that BoardGameGeek has a very active used-game marketplace where users can sell games to each other -- seems to work very well, and prices can be significantly less than buying new; similar to ebay.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: program menu printing
« Last post by mouser on April 08, 2009, 08:53 AM »
It's a nice idea to use a resource editor, but it probably wont help you too much with menus..

Another thing you could do is record a screencast movie of you opening all the menus, and then just print the frames of your choice (or send them the video if that is sufficient).

It would'nt be too hard to use a screenshot program like Screenshot Captor to capture an image of each menu in turn using a hotkey.. i still think that still might be your best way to go.  So pulldown menu, hit hotkey, pulldown next menu, hit hotkey, etc.. Sometimes the manual approaches are the most efficient.  You'd just want to make sure you have Screenshot Captor configured in the autosave mode so it doesn't prompt you after each screenshot.

Screenshot Captor / Re: How to change default output directory.
« Last post by mouser on April 08, 2009, 08:47 AM »
And lastly from the Tips and Tricks section of the Screenshot Captor help file:

  • Hold down the Ctrl key while selecting a directory from the MoveTo menu to COPY files to the directory instead of moving images to it.
  • Hold down the Shift key while selecting a directory from the MoveTo menu to SWITCH into that directory instead of moving images to it.

With that last trick you can quickly move around to some favorite directory locations.

Screenshot Captor / Re: How to change default output directory.
« Last post by mouser on April 08, 2009, 08:45 AM »
While we are on the subject i should mention that Screenshot Captor is designed to help you manage your screenshots, so one of the things you can do is configure a list of MoveTo folders in the options dialog, and then any time you want to move a screenshot into one of those folders you just select it (or more than one) and choose the destination from the MoveTo menu.

You'll also find in that MoveTo menu some new options for moving screenshots into subdirectories based on date.

not a dumb question -- there are so many options and menus it is very easy to get lost..
