Living Room / What's your favorite drink?
« Last post by mouser on June 07, 2009, 06:20 PM »
During their latest DC gathering visit, gothic+traci introduced me to this Lipton Green Tea with Citrus drink, which is sort of a sweetened juice with flavor of green tea.  It's pretty good and the green tea flavor mixes surprisingly well with citrus.

It got me thinking.. The main thing i drink is seltzer with fruit juice concentrate.  Basically i make seltzer with this machine i've written about before, and i keep 5 or 6 squeeze bottles in my fridge with different flavors of juice concentrate (orange, apple, cranberry, cherry, etc.).  It's nice because i can make my own flavors that are very light and not too sweet.

So this weekend i brewed a super strong cup of green tea (basically i made a green tea "concentrate" by using enough leaves for 10 normal cups) and put it into one of my squeeze bottles.  Now i can add an ounce of green tea concentrate to my sparkling juice concoction.  The result.. PURE DELICIOUSNESS!

Really, truly, a masterpiece of a daily drink.

The best part is that green tea is quite healthy for you and i'm not a big fan of it as a hot tea (i much prefer black teas).

What are your favorite drinks? The more unusual the better.

ZBar is made by Tom Revell, the same guy who makes Stickies and he has quite a few other cool programs.. and he accepts donations.  So don't be shy about sending him a donation if you like his work.

And it seems like someone needs to make a bigger post on DC about this cool fellow.

it's about mouser being as cool as he is to sponsor mugs!

I should remind people more often that I really have no discretionary income to pay for stuff.. So when *I* offer DC mugs or similar things, we need to remember that it would be more accurate to say that these things are paid for from the money that DC raises from donations.  In other words, the DC community is sponsoring all of these things.  So the thanks really goes to everyone here on this site who has been willing to donate to the site.

it's a good idea to make a gui for nircmd.
you might also try using it through my Find and Run Robot (FARR) program, since people have made alias files for it:

UrlSnooper / Re: How to Cleanly Uninstall URL Snooper & Associated Programs
« Last post by mouser on June 06, 2009, 09:40 PM »
I guess the first thing is to see if URL Snooper works properly when run from an Administrator account on your pc if you normally run it as a lesser user.
And forget about automatic network adapter detection -- switch to Advanced mode from the URL Snooper menu and select your network adapter manually, then click the "Sniff Network" button.

That is really strange.. i don't quite know how to explain the fact that once you select it in administrator mode, it still works even after you log out and log back in as a normal user..  :o

sorry to hear about any problems you might be having.. url snooper doesnt install anything that could slow down your pc.

as you said:
Q2: Would unistalling from Add/Remove page be all is needed for a CLEAN uninstall?  Remove both URL Snooper and WinPcap!

yes.

im not sure if orbit uses winpcap, but you could simply uninstall url snooper and winpcap.  if orbit needs winpcap it will complain after you uninstall it -- then you could always reinstall it to put winpcap back.

just a note: I actually asked john to post about AbcChm after he sent me a sample version of the screenshot captor chm help file converted to pdf.  It really did an impressive job with the conversion.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Feature request: a real Start button?
« Last post by mouser on June 05, 2009, 06:51 PM »
i should clarify -- i didn't mean to emulate the look per se, i just meant to recontruct the various submenus and items.
but you raise a different idea -- if it would be possible to pop up the normal Start Menu, but at a specific location on screen (and maybe force to Classic mode?).. anyone have any idea of a way to do this?

a full start button emulation would indeed be useful.. not sure how hard it would be..

Living Room / StrongWebmail apparently hacked after issuing $10K challenge
« Last post by mouser on June 05, 2009, 08:08 AM »
It will be very interesting to hear the details about this as they are revealed..

After putting forth a $10,000 come-and-get-us challenge, it's possible that StrongWebmail CEO Darren Berkovitz is rethinking his stance on that. The company, which makes voice-based authentication software, dared hackers to break into Mr. Berkovitz's Web-mail account and report back details from an upcoming date on his calendar. A week later, a team of high-profile security researchers contacted a reporter with precisely that information.

i've added a new option for this, so you can decide which behavior you prefer -- clearing always when hotkey triggered, or restoring focus and not clearing if the window is already onscreen.

Find And Run Robot / Re: how can execute a alias without hit enter key ?
« Last post by mouser on June 05, 2009, 07:52 AM »
i've added the "dolaunch" command to FARR (not yet uploaded) that will let you trigger a result as soon as it matches, without user having to hit enter.

The Form Letter Machine / Re: HTML / Rich Text Support
« Last post by mouser on June 05, 2009, 07:47 AM »
as people have pointed out, you can currently design such things by using the html text in your blocks -- they just won't show up nicely formatted when in the TFLM window; they should work when pasted into another program though.

but this is something that could be fixed in new and web version.
19295
for your last question first, currently variables can be passed on the commandline to tflm -- i use just such a feature myself.  im guessing you could do that with outlook as well.

i think the idea of variables only showing when actually used in a block is a good idea -- it's one of the issues i was thinking about.. i guess you are saying you would still like having a centralized list of variables.

as for the idea of multiple fields and the comment about drop down menu, i'm not sure exactly what you mean.  could you elaborate?
19296
if i press the "copy or print" link it shows a new window which i can copy out of perfectly.

try:
1. using a different browser
2. pasting into a different text editor.
19297
So i'm planning an online version of TFLM.. i'm trying to think about ways the program could be improved (ideas that will surely migrate back into the standalone tool).

One thing that i've always thought is that the variables list pair in top right could use some improvement, but im not sure exactly what the best way would be.

In particular it seems to me that some variables might only be used in some blocks.. so maybe putting the variables in the tree somewhere makes more sense?

Ideas?

The Form Letter Machine / Re: Reset all checked to unchecked
« Last post by mouser on June 05, 2009, 06:34 AM »
good points and questions -- sorry for the extremely long delay in answersing -- i think i must have missed this originally.
the easiest way to "reset" is to save the tree with the settings you want to reset to, and then reload it to reset.  you can reload the settings simply by re-selecting it from the drop down box.

The Form Letter Machine / Re: Feature request: "toggle variables"
« Last post by mouser on June 05, 2009, 06:32 AM »
sorry for the delayed reply.. makes complete sense, but there is currently no way to do this..
however i am currently planning a new version of TFLM (and most notably a web version), and this will be one of the features.
