N.A.N.Y. 2010 / Re: NANY 2010 Program Idea Suggestion Thread

Firefox Plugin Idea:
A plugin which shows a panel below the main window which shows all <!-- --> html comments on the current page.

I think it would yield some very interesting discoveries.

A nice bonus feature would scan for curse words in these comments and show a count in red, to aid in finding fun discoveries.

rckhrse, this program has nothing to do with any malware.
if what you are saying is that you got an alert that the program or download was infected, it was probably a false positive by the antivirus program -- let us know more details and we can help.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Understanding Clips with URLs
« Last post by mouser on November 27, 2009, 11:49 AM »
This is actually an advanced feature of CHS.. It works like this:  That folder (list of clips) will list any clips you have taken in the past that have a url in them (like: https://www.donationcoder.com).

So it's not a folder you put clips yourself -- but rather its like a filter, listing all clips recorded that match that pattern.

It's also useful to show you how you can make your own "virtual" folders that match certain patterns -- for example if you wanted to make a folder that always listed all clips with your name in them, etc.

I'm crazy for these sites that really try to automate the production and selling of indie products, especially for people like me who like to minimize the need to interact with actual humans.

This is a very cool new site that will let you go from board/card game idea and artwork, to a fully assembled game that is make on demand for single orders.  You design your game pieces, board, card, instructions, art, and upload them to an account -- there are lots of different parts you can include in your game and everything is automated.

The site calculates the production cost of a single game set, and like cafepress and other merchandise sites, you can then set how much markup you'd like to sell it for.  You then split the any markup profits with the site.

It's a wonderful idea i think.  You won't mistake these games for high-quality big production run games, but that's not the point -- the point is to make it easy for anyone to make a game they can sell in very small volumes and have a lot of fun doing it.  They even have a neat online gallery shop where you can buy games other people have made. Games are as low as $7 (cool!)

I'd love to see some people at DC making some games on the site -- if you do let me know and we'll give some away at DC!

Now if you'll excuse me i'm going to go back to the site and order a handful of fun looking games just for the fun of it.

Greetings, can you elaborate a little about this comment:
I do not understand how I might best use the Clips with URLs function or if the URLs are clickable.

General Software Discussion / CNet's Security Starter Kit 2010
« Last post by mouser on November 26, 2009, 07:17 PM »
CNet put out two lists of recommended freeware for new PC's today.  The first was a general list (CNet's Windows Starter Kit 2010) in which I was honored to see my own Find and Run Robot program get the nod.  The second is this one, a list of recommended free security tools that serve different purposes.

CNet's Security Starter Kit 2010

Refined for 2010, the Security Starter Kit will ensure that your sanity lasts way longer than your resolutions through a collection of must-have programs to protect your Windows computer. In our six categories this year, we offer the core essentials of Antivirus and Anti-spyware, as well as ancillary but important categories such as In-browser Security, Firewall, Encryption, and Parental Control.

This one really made my day today, it's cnet's latest edition of their "Windows Starter Kit 2010", recommending essential freeware tools for windows:

"In Utilities, we added Revo Uninstaller, threw in a second Notepad replacement, and replaced Launchy with Find and Run Robot... a must-have whether you're on a desktop or a laptop."

General Software Discussion / Re: Chrome OS preview looks pretty cool
« Last post by mouser on November 24, 2009, 03:39 PM »
Google is asking developers to contribute to the Chrome extensions gallery -- an act that will put third party applications on both the Chrome browser and eventually the operating system.  Developers can contribute to the project by uploading their creations to the Developer Dashboard.

this might be a good time to remind people that making an addon for a program will qualify as a NANY entry.
