PhotoUpz is on Bits du Jour again, and again for merely $8.
I think this program is the best of the kind.
I still think PhotoUpz may be the best of the kind for the money.

What more can you ask; now it is even being given away!

General Software Discussion / Re: tool to check if TIFF files compressed ?
« Last post by Curt on March 09, 2013, 03:06 AM »
If more people than me is scared off by the weir... ehh... different tiffinfo "thing", it is good to know that a simple right-click will make Windows give the required information. (Maybe the feature first was adopted in Win 7 (which only was available some months after tomos first asked for the feature)?, or maybe IrfanView first must be installed? I don't know. But I do have the feature in Win 7.) But for checking more than one file at a time, it is of course much more effective to use tiffinfo with skwire's brilliant GUI.

Lastpass and the institution are different things.
What are they so we all can avoid them.

I am guessing Renegade meant that even if IE10 with Lastpass can log in, IE10 without Lastpass may not be able to log in.

Living Room / Microsoft may be after-taxed $1 Billion by Denmark
« Last post by Curt on March 04, 2013, 02:48 AM »
In year 2002 Microsoft purchased the Danish financial management program Navision for approx US $1.6 Billion. Shortly after this, Microsoft Denmark sold Navision to Microsoft Ireland (duty free area) for almost nothing, trying to cheat Denmark of our part of future income. Navision is now known as Dynamics NAV and is still being maintained in Denmark, making Microsoft approx $1.5 Billion per year. But because Microsoft has offices in Bermuda (etcetera) the company still pays almost no tax in Denmark. All this has caused the Danish authorities to accuse Microsoft of tax fraud, demanding another approx $1 Billion in taxes.

Showing updates, only IE and language packages were installed:

« Last post by Curt on March 01, 2013, 05:54 PM »
The password has to have eight characters.
You are right about the 8 character password

-is that something new? I really don't remember. I know I have a poor memory, but I will be surprised if my password here is more than 6 characters. Hmm... I hope I won't need to re-use it!

Magic questions should never be mandatory;
I hate to give such private informations to anyone.

The scandal is all over northern Europe at the moment,
oh, they were so offended by the meat not being all cow...
every teen girl is crying and crying out loud: "they are eating horses!"
Now it turns out, they all were wrong from the very beginning!
They really should have been grateful, but they totally missed it;
It was never merely horse meat, no, it was  Unicorn !!  :o

« Last post by Curt on February 27, 2013, 05:04 PM »
lemon-juice...

 ;D
---------
It is my theory that Explorer is testing each icon's program's address, before displaying the desktop (in the toolbar in question). When I moved all third-party icons and only kept the system-made such, my toolbar became lightening fast (of course, it had almost nothing to do). But the difference in speed reminded me so much of the difference between launching Add/Remove with only 5 programs installed, and launching Add/Remove when 500 programs are installed => same-same.

I no longer use the taskbar toolbar, but I managed to find it for this occasion:

Danish titles, etc., (Skrivebord is desktop):

Loading time: too short to calculate.  :)
now I will put it away again.

I never figured out why or what. But the problem "went away" when I moved almost all the icons from the desktop into True Launch Bar edited and disabled the desktop toolbar.

General Software Discussion / Re: Babylon 10
« Last post by Curt on February 26, 2013, 01:56 AM »
...a "lifetime" package, but by now we know they mean "Lifetime of version 10" (please prove me wrong)!

I did of course say it so inaccurate, that I easily can prove me wrong myself! It is your lifetime with version 10 only, or something.

Anyway, I was actually posting to recommend GoldenDict, and to tell that I have donated kilele because he was the first to recommend GoldenDict to me; this program really made my day ("month")! I have invested quite a lot of money in Babylon dictionaries and thesauri, and was very frustrated with Babylon version 9 and 10 making my investments worthless, until kilele and GoldenDict came to the rescue. ♥

Another dictionary compatible with their free .bgl glossaries is GoldenDict http://goldendict.org/
-thanks for telling, kilele!
you can set different path directories at edit->dictionaries->sources->files
...GoldenDict deserves more chances. It really is excellent in many ways. Just the pleasure of seeing all my expensive dictionaries and thesauri again is wonderful.

So, dear reader, if you have some useless Babylon dictionaries, try GoldenDict!

Living Room / Re: PayPal users are frauds :-(
« Last post by Curt on February 25, 2013, 04:54 PM »
I originally posted because I interpreted her words the same skwire did:

1) User buys a piece of software using Paypal.
2) User receives software key/serial via email.
3) User then claims a fraudulent transaction and demands refund.
4) Paypal refunds user and seller loses that transaction and monies.
5) User now has a legitimate key/serial and is not out any money.

Living Room / PayPal users are frauds :-(
« Last post by Curt on February 25, 2013, 11:43 AM »
Reading the posts on Bits du Jour, I came along this post from Susan Westlake from Technology LigthHouse, maker of ColorCache, PTFB (Push The Freakin' Button), and PromptPal, about why they have removed PayPAL as an payment option in their shop:

Susan Westlake: Jim, I'm afraid we disabled the paypal option some time ago as it was an open door for fraud.

Susan Westlake: Hi Joe, I'm so sorry I can't help you. I appreciate that it's nice to be on the buyers end with Paypal - I happily use Paypal as a buyer. For a few years we used it quite successfully on the sellers end, but things changed I think because in the last couple of years we had nothing but bother. I know there are lots of honest people that use paypal as buyers (I'm one of them), but when it came to software sales we found that only a handful of people used paypal and the majority of them refused to pay claiming that the purchase was made fraudulently by a third party. When we switched it off all we seemed to loose were those fraudulent sales. I'd willingly switch it on just for you, but we no longer have an account. So sorry I can't help.

Of course I was very sad to read this, because I prefer to use PayPal for the sake of my security. Now it seems that my security is the opposite to the seller, because too many users now are frauds.

This is all news to me. Sad news.  :(

Babylon wrote me today and offered me to be the first to receive a 30% discount. This reminded me that I've forgotten to inform you of their new system, Lite, Classic, Expert: Each offer is a "lifetime" package, but by now we know they mean "Lifetime of version 10" (please prove me wrong)!

I too would like to apologies, because I deliberately made my previous post provoking. Sorry, I shouldn't have done that.

PhraseExpander and Phrase Express are quite similar... say no more! ... but I type very slow, so I am a fan of phrase expansion.

Also, it must be remembered that Steven was right, when mentioning the bug, which was preventing PhraseExpander from porting when more than one of a type was selected. The said software author will only accept critic if it comes with flowers  and  the sun is in a certain angle  and  he is feeling generous. Otherwise, the problem doesn't exist ... say no more! ... I believe this has less to do with program features, than with personality.
1798
A simple search on their forum makes it clear that they long ago have fixed the bug Steven Avery was talking about. Bug, I said, bug, not some "lock-in attempt".
