UrlSnooper / Re: No network adapters detected!?
« Last post by mouser on December 07, 2009, 04:51 PM »
i appreciate all the help testing this -- there is no reason url snooper shouldnt work -- it may simply be a case of me needing to update the network adapter detection code i use to account for some winpcap change.. i'll try to get it done this week.  if you don't mind i'll email you and maybe you can help me test some test versions in the next day or two?

Ok i'm going to have another look.. i wish i could reproduce the problem.. i wonder if it could have something to do with running as administrator.. if you run the other program as administrator, do they still see the network adapters?

It seems like an interesting legal case, and both sides have some points it seems.. Though I tend to have a very very strong bias in favor of the people who actually do the work and a distrust of those who use their name and position of authority to take credit for stuff, so my inclination is to view Arrington's writings with a fair amount of skepticism.

As many here know, I'm a big fan of Tower Defense Games.
Of course I'd love to see someone write from DC write a full tower defense flash game, but that seems a bit outside the scope of the NANY projects, which are supposed to be smaller projects.

So I was thinking it would be fun to see some proof-of-concept games..

I always wondered what a text-based Tower Defense game would look like.. it would be fun to see if someone could come up with something.

On some of the BBCA shows here they have English subs for the characters with heavy dialects.
i love it  ;D -- are there any other languages where you have to subtitle in the same language they are speaking because the accents are so thick?

I think we all need to express our immense gratitude to Perry Mowbray for organizing and supervising NANY this year.

Without him I don't think this event would really even be possible any more -- it's a huge amount of work and Perry brings so much energy to it, I almost can't believe it.

I think it makes all the difference in the world.

Thank you Perry  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

As instructed by our fearless leader Perry, I am posting a teaser for a top secret NANY project that dc member JavaJones and I have teamed up on*.

What I can tell you is it is a website.. and will hopefully be of use to other software authors, especially open source authors. More details to follow in the coming weeks.

*getting this ready by Jan 1 is going to be a real stretch as it's not a small project; there is a real chance that it may not be ready for the public by Jan1, in which case we will either open it for early beta at that time, or i will scramble to get some other NANY out the door by then.

CHS is written in Borland Codegear Embarcardo C++ Builder, and like many of my apps, does not handle unicode (non-ascii) characters well.  However, unlike some of my other programs, modifying it to support Unicode should as hard as the rest.. I've put it on my todo list -- maybe i will make it my first foray into unicode support.

really wonderful

maybe we could have a special badge for website or blog which provide encouragement to NANY participants?
like instead of "NANY PLEDGE" or "NANY PARTICIPANT"
it would be like
"NANY REPORTER" or "NANY SUPPORTER" or "FRIEND OF DC" or "FRIEND OF CODER" or whatever
only worth doing if there is at least one blog or website that would want to show it.

inputs go up at the top, not inside the checkbox nodes.

go to this simple example:
http://www.tfdocs.com/form/bsd-license

and then click on the button on bottom left that says "View XML Source" to see an example of using inputs.

there are some mms recorders out there, free and otherwise.
try maybe:

used this today, worked like a charm
17674
fair enough -- it is sort of outside the scope of the other requirements.
17675
That's sort of getting at my point -- installing an antivirus and being able to configure it ONLY for ondemand scanning should be doable without leaving any resident processes running, without causing any slow down at all.

The value of it is being able to get second opinions about possible threats, without slowing down your system.

But the problem is, as you described -- that even when antivirus programs have an option to disable background scanning, they often seem to eat up resources and conflict with other background scanners.

So i am proposing that a high quality antivirus program should be configurable to install without any background processes running and without any impact on the system when not being asked to scan.
